LSPDFR Announcement + Preview

Despite this, I made a major breakthrough with the arresting animations today.  More to come, soon :)

Thanks for taking your time to reply to my question Sam :)

This major breakthrough certainly sounds exciting for the development of LSPDFR!

  • A trailer showcasing animations doesn't make for very good viewing, especially not for a first reveal.  Was it a normal cop chase?  No, every entity involved in the pursuit except the player was spaw

Honestly, I don't see any progress or dev releases showing what's been worked on or developed so far...The lspdfr dev page just says general statements relating to animals... I'd like to see a dev page that shows what events and exceptions have been discovered that are usual in GTA V. Also what they are using to load the mod into the game's files. Maybe a list of any cracked model figures or model movements. And don't get me started on the video. I could make that exact video with no mods. It didn't show any progress they've made, a little misleading to me. I realize it's a "trailer" and all. But they could of at least faked some cool upcoming procedures that were going to be in the mod. I'm a little disappointed on the "breaking silence" approach with the way they did it. But hopefully this will be an ongoing project that will be updated for an easier understanding of what is ACTUALLY being developed.

It's a free mod being developed by enthusiasts, not a AAA game developer. Feel free to ignore any previews or statements regarding the development of the mod if you don't think it's good enough.

Then make the video. Exactly how they did with no mods. Right now.

Don't like the mod? Don't download it. These guys are working hard on this mod, and some people in this forum are ungrateful for it. Do you think when LCPDFR came out that it was exactly how you see 1.1? This is two weeks since the game came out and one week since they started playing around with scripts. You don't think that's progress? You do better.

I would love to see you make that video.  It is 100% impossible to do without mods, and still 100% impossible to do with the mods currently available - guaranteed.

  • LSPD Buffalo and Cruiser - not used in ambient police chases in the game.
  • LSPD in Blaine County.
  • Sheriff cruiser responding to the chase.
  • Sheriff cruiser joining the chase.
  • Player speech + animations.

All added by LSPDFR.  You cannot make that trailer without mods.

Am wondering will it be possible to be able to carry the flashlight while on foot, when they use it on their police cars on nightsifts, it be cool to carry one.

Nope, we only have access to a few files, and they aren't very helpful.  The big thing will be when OpenIV can open animation files - right now we can only see their set names, not the animations inside them.

Despite this, I made a major breakthrough with the arresting animations today.  More to come, soon :)

I assume this is what we are after? It is 116.8kb and as far as I know nobody has figured out how to open Rockstar's new proprietary .ycd files yet?

Yeah, that's only one of them.

"You tell me exactly what you want, and I will very carefully explain to you why it cannot be."

i'm actually amazed about how quick after release this comes about, didn't expect it at all. i thought the trailer was great, too. i immediately sent it out to all my law-enforcement-nerd (especially LAPD-nerd) friends, knowing that they'd flip out over something like LSPDFR. i'm very optimistic and grateful that there's people dedicating their free time to this project, particularly so because there hasn't been any other legitimate law enforcement game out since the older Police Quest series, which, by the way, is decades ago.

i don't understand how anybody could be disappointed with the teaser-trailer, when it's clear that development has only just begun and the devs are completely on their own in figuring out (someone else's!) code. it's like some people expected for LSPDFR to pick up from where LCPDFR is, right from the get-go. smh.

with that said, i've checked on the other "mod"; SAPDFR. it really seems to be more of a trainer (featuring police skins, car spawns and a no-wanted cheat), rushed out the gate to ride on LCPDFR's reputation and to draw interest. i'd rather wait for this.

thanks for the updates and the preview!

Well considering Ringo said nothing about "i know everything that the Devs do and im a badass", He doesn't have to explain anything. As explained in the past many many times. He was just stating that since you want to criticize on the progress, please show more than they did. Im sure myself and many others would like to see it.

Another note: If you want to continue this between you and I, send me a PM don't be a forum warrior.

G17 Media has closed-source projects as a rule. I'm not exactly sure why you feel like we should be talking about events and exceptions, or giving technical details of the hook, given that very few people would have the slightest idea what that means (as for "how you load scripts into memory," it works exactly the same way as for IV -- replace a DLL that the game will try to load, have your replacement DLL pass through most stuff to the real one but also load all .asi files in the game directory as DLLs and execute their main method; the .asi (which is really a DLL) has a hook as a dependency, and uses a function in that hook to register itself with the game as a script, which causes its code to be executed by the game).

People aren't mad at you because you said something negative, people are reacting because your response sounded like "You're not giving technical details that you never release and that almost no one cares about in your teaser, so clearly you haven't done anything." You will likely not see such a dev page at any point; that's not how the dev team operates. If you ask nicely, there's a chance they'll reply with more technical details, but they're less likely to do that if your tone is how it's been.

I do find it odd how you apparently think they should have faked footage to show what's planned, instead of showing the actual progress they've made. Your reaction was "I can fake that, so it doesn't show me the progress made." That's not how showing progress works. In fact, it's basically the opposite of "really showing progress."

I see nothing wrong with a little constructive criticism. I don't quite understand how one could possibly determine the tone used by an individual through reading letters on a screen. When I read comments, I base my response on what was literally typed, not the tone at which I assume the person is using. An easy solution to this issue is to begin presuming the tone as being neutral, neither negative or positive. This can help divert some of the issues we seem to be having here. Though I will say that there is a difference between constructive criticism and blatant hate. Criticism should always be welcomed, and presented in a respectful and educated manner.

Your post made me think of something else.   I recently checked out the locations for the patrolling unmarked cruiser and marked interceptor.

Only saw it twice but didn't pay much attention.  Are they shining a flashlight from the vehicle or is it the interceptor's spotlight?

They are shining an actual flashlight from inside of the vehicle. If you travel along the main highway at nighttime, quite often you will see a Sheriff vehicle on the side "running radar", and one of the deputies will be shining a mag light out the window. I managed to make him drop it once and took a close look at it, it just looks like a classic maglite.

One thing that might be possible is to treat the flashlight as a weapon, so it shows up in the weapon wheel, so we could actually use it, but as of right now we can't.

-----------------

Now for everyone else, be patient, LSPDFR will be released at some point. Give the devs some time to figure this out, they're not getting paid for this, and also have other things to do.

-----------------

Then for all the people complaining about how bad the trailer is, this is en extremely early stage of development, most of the animations can't even be accessed or edited yet. There isn't even an alpha or beta version out yet. So stop complaining, and wait, it will get improved over time, but you aren't going get the finished product with all the bells and whistles, two weeks after the release of the game. And also, why would the trailer be fake? It does not make any sense to release an official LSPDFR trailer, that's not LSPDFR, think about it.

-----------------

So that's my two cents about all this. Be patient, don't complain, and show the devs some more support.

Im pumped to see so much progress. I was a little worried there wouldnt be a lspdfr bc of Rockstar and their bs. Im already bored with gta v without mods. Theres so much more stuff rockstar could have done to keep the game fun.

-snip-

I don't see why you're so upset about the matter. You can't always get what you want, thats not how it works. The information the devs are giving is more than what they could be giving, they easily could of made us wait for a release with no trailer, and no info, be glad they gave us a trailer. It might not be a whole list of features like they did with LCPDFR 1.0's release, but the game hasn't been out long enough to show more. As they uncover more stuff they will post about it, as you can see Sam has been posting updates on what he's found, If you want to know that badly take it up with them personally, maybe they'll set up a dev blog and post full technical information if thats what you'd like, which infact I think would be pretty neat too.

my point is, theres no reason to take the "WOOOOOOW thats all they're showing?" approach. they decided to announce they are working on the mod, which is pretty much what everyone wanted, considering the daily questions being asked on their facebook and the forums about when LSPDFR is coming out. Let's just say people would of been a lot more disappointed had they not said anything at all and just silently developed it. With all due respect towards your "opinion"

I'm expecting the "lol ur just a user im talking to the devs not you!!!" response.

"Will be uploading tomorrow"..... Uh huh..... Well we'll be waiting. I'm sure everyone here understands your distress/concern, but the devs are just trying to make this mod correctly. Sure, they could just rush out exactly what they have now... But if they did most would be disappointed. Hell they could have made this mod in secret just for them without releasing anything. But they have decided to release this (when it's ready) to all of us, including you, free of charge simply for your enjoyment and their enthusiasm. While they have a donate option, they are not guaranteed any compensation and therefore have no obligation to do any of this. The least you could do is thank these fine gentlemen for allowing us to have fun with their methods. So for the LCPDFR Community..... Thank you Sam and all who aid in the development, and thank you to the moderators for keeping this a friendly place and for answering the same questions all day :)
