Seven years on patrol: an interview with Sam
I'm grateful for everything the people involved with LSPDFR/LCPDFR have done, really. It may seem trivial for some, but I reckon a good portion of people around here understand what it means to have a platform which enables you to roleplay as a police officer. That hasn't been accomplished since the Police Quest series and there's (PROBABLY, I don't know jackshit about programming/coding) a good reason for it - being that it's so complicated. Even with my limited knowledge on programming, I can tell how much blood and sweat goes into developing something like LSPDFR and troubleshooting all the little intricate issues that arise during the process. Knowing that people with LSPDFR aren't guys that are employed by someone, but rather enthusiasts (like us) that are willing to share their work, free of charge (!), makes me incredibly thankful. o7

Middle way between US and Germany?
the officer was already shot at, though. how much longer is the police supposed to really wait and play it safe if someone stands within arms reach and shoots? it's not going to get better from there on out and that's just not how it works, the threat hasn't immediately seized just because gunfire has momentarily paused (for whatever reasons) and giving someone who's that reckless a chance to further barricade themselves or take more shots, idk, it's like contributing to an escalation. in any case i do think that people are too quick to pass harsh judgement on these type of split second decisions. not to say i don't respect other opinions, but this is a discussion after all.

Middle way between US and Germany?
i already mentioned that there's a major difference between a "real" gas gun and gas powered bb guns. my opinion would perhaps slightly change if it were a bb gun, but as far as i'm concerned that wasn't the case here, so not much of a point in discussing that further. you'll have a hard time trying to find an officer that's going to attempt opening a door while someone's literally stood on the other side, shooting. withdraw and call for backup? fair enough. said that'd be an option as well, but i put no blame on an officer for returning fire when he's being shot at. it's extremely unfortunate that someone innocent got injured, but it's the suspect that put himself and the people around him in jeopardy here when he decided to recklessly use a lifelike (and at close range dangerous) weapon. finally, the officer didn't think he was threathened. he was being shot at, with a real weapon. gas pistols are less than lethal weapons, less than lethal far from guaranteed depending on the range they're utilized at.

Middle way between US and Germany?
the door was briefly opened to a gap and someone fired what looked to be and sounded like a real gun at a police officer within arms reach. i think it's pretty plausible to assume that the officer knew what was behind the door when it popped open and gunfire went off in his face, even if the door was closed afterwards. going by your logic a guy could literally shoot at an officer from behind a corner and the officer shouldn't be allowed to return fire, as he doesn't know every detail of what's going on behind the corner. using firearms is always risky business and potentially dangerous to innocent bystanders, but it's not like there's much room for diplomacy or intricate investigation once the guns come out and the bullets start whizzing past you. with that said, you're not likely going to count your shots when you're trading shots with somebody, nevermind at point blank range. popping off 1 round in a gunfight and hoping for the best is incredibly dangerous. shooting at someone 5 times might sound exaggerated to the general public, but i'd argue that mostly boils down to people not being familar with police tactics and taking what can be seen in movies for granted.

Middle way between US and Germany?
(disregard the commentary and just fast forward to the firing of the pistol) the video above shows a gas pistol in action, assuming OP wasn't referring to a gas operated bb pistol, this is what it sounds like if you're shot at with a weapon of that sort, implying the weapon didn't have a red tip either, which is fair to assume considering it happened in germany, the gun probably looked like the real deal too. now i'm not going to argue that identifying yourself as a police officer could've prevented an escalation, though i'm not entirely sure that it didn't happen in the first place and simply wasn't mentioned by OP(?). in any case, it would have been a terrible decision for the officer to try and open the door while he's confronted with an (apparent) madman shooting at him. could argue that it would have been safer to withdraw and call for backup or a tactical team, but self defence was definitely warranted at that point.

LSPD First Response 0.2a Update
doesn't sound like your fps lag has anything to do with lspdfr. moving at greater speeds is more taxing on your rig, because it has to load objects faster and if you're computer can't handle it you'll get fps lag or the typical stutters caused by the game trying to load the objects in your vicinity. this isn't a gta v specific topic btw, applies just about to every game - you'll notice that you generally get better fps by not moving your avatar and/or camera and just looking steady towards 1 direction, better yet directly up at the sky or directly at the ground. gta v itself is very stable and the few, rare crashes caused by lspdfr tend to not end the game session, but instead just give you an error prompt. hardly warrants the label "massive stability problem", considering you can immediately reload your mods with the ragehook console.

Geldlobby GTA V PC

Looking ahead to the PDFR series' future
gta iv wasn't THAT bad in the end, granted it wasn't well optimized. but i mean, i really didn't crash at all even during lengthier sessions if i just played it like it's supposed to be played - it only starting becoming a really messy situation once i threw mods in the mix.

Searching PED's in 0.3
great suggestion, i'm sure this wasn't on their to-do list until now.

Mod that restricts number of Vehicles/Peds
there's a mod with which you can disable traffic completely, although that would probably defeat the purpose of the game... in any case not surprised that deactivating all peds and vehicles would result in an fps boost.

[REL] Keep Calm - "Keep Calm...I am a Police Officer"
there's also that paranoid "look over their shoulder, fast-walk away - is he coming for me? YES HE IS I'MA GTFO *sprints*" reaction for the pedestrians. i honestly don't know to which extent one can determine those reactions, it seems to be pretty difficult, but i suppose that would be a nice alternative between the 2 extremes. npc driver ai seems really dumbed down though.

Crash on Load Up
if anyone figures out a workaround to this, please let us know. i thought replacing the update folder with the UPDATED ones and then modding those would solve this, it didn't. now i'm seething with anger and semi-seriously considering purchasing a ticket to rockstar's headquarters in an attempt to find the person responsible, so i can falcon punch said person straight in the jaw because my lighting won't look as pretty as it did prior to the update. edit: nvm i'm stupid, that fixed it. flight cancelled.

EDIT: messed up. thanks for pointing it out, SuperStumpje.

GTA V versus GTA IV handling
at the risk of repeating myself; i was a big fan of GTA IV's driving mechanics, hated V's mechanics for just about the same reasons you did and then some and i STILL came to the conclusion that this mod combines both the games pro-points regarding driving mechanis for better results. so yes, this mod is well worth it. installation's easy too.
-
walking me through the whole installation
i'm not sure, do you think i could use my windows 7 desktop? ...i hope you now see how silly a vague question like yours is. can you use it for gta v? sure, if it matches the minimum requirements. for lcpdfr/lspdfr? sure, it doesn't really add anything on top of the minimum requirements

Police Ai
i was just going to say, it was a fairly common occurrence to have random cops join in an ongoing pursuit. i assume it'd be a headache to implement with GTA V, as it was mentioned that the police AI isn't as sophisticated(?) as was the case in IV, but i trust the folks around here to make the best out of it.

GTA V versus GTA IV handling
i absolutely despise GTA V's vehicle handling and physics, did so the very moment i first laid hands on it back on the ps3. it felt incredibly arcade-y, as if the cars had zero weight to them. suspension's so unrealistically tight, you can practically hit a 90° turn at 100 miles an hour, nail it and barely even hear your tires screech, never mind seeing the rear buck. hit a wall at top-speed and you may just end up with a shattered headlight IF you're ALL out of luck. now i know GTA IV's car handling wasn't without fault, but damn, if you hit a wall at high rates of speed, you're liable to kiss that car goodbye. which is realistic! the cars had proper weight to them, the rear swings around if you take a sharp turn, granted a bit too much due to the game's superlight suspension, but it felt significantly more like the real deal in comparison to GTA V. but now to the best part, with the above mod GTA V's and IV's handling combine for an all-around better experience behind the wheel. the cars feel weightier, collisions deal appropriate damage, your rear'll swing out if you take a tight turn, especially if you force it with a handbrake to drift into the curve, but the suspension's not as exaggerated as was the case with GTA IV. i can wholeheartedly recommend it.
