GTA V for PC to not be Mod Capable

Featured Replies

As some of us await anxiously for the GTA V release for PC, some of us have bound to be wondering, how long will it take to be modded?

Rumors from /r/PCMasterRace and GTA forums suggest that Rockstar is including a DRM (Digital Rights Management) software.

What does this mean? Well for one, you won't be able to pirate it. (I don't endorse this anyways). Well that's a win right? Apparently not.

DRMs, from the limited information I researched, can include performance bottlenecks, crashes/instability, no-offline play, and no access to the game's files for editing.

Tl;dr, DRM? AKA: No modding support.

Will someone crack through the DRM? Will GTAV be available exclusively through Steam? Will Rockstar even include a DRM? Watch our panel discuss tonight at 7 on Weasel News.

Oh thank god! I really hope GTA 5 is moddable. GTA 4 is great, but for 5 to be moddable...

Of course Rockstar will try to make it so you can't mod the game. Same thing happened with GTA4, yet players can still mod the game.

Probably the worst that can happen, is that you are placed in the Cheaters Pool.

Yeah, IV had extremely expensive and advanced DRM software to prevent piracy. V having it is no different. Incidentally, IV's DRM was cracked reasonably soon after release (it took longer than normal, but I think it was cracked within a month). V will, again, likely be no different.

I don't know. Denuvo clearly has "Rockstar Montreal" as a partner on their website.

Yes which was mainly for L.A. Noire. Trust me on this.

Yeah, well, but it crashes and freezes because of poor mod support. Don't want the same with GTA V *sadface*

After all, they obviously were inspired in some areas by modding community.

Don't really understand why they don't do it. Well okay yeah 'GTA Online' would prolly be one reason, but maybe they can implement a system that detects game changes and let's you only play online if u use a vanilla game. But whatever man. It would be awesome to see R* giving the modding community some love 'n hugs. without mods, 'San Andreas' and 'IV' would have been dead for a long time.

I think they are just 'saying' to discharge modders from buying the game just to mod it.

but yeah we won't know till its out,

-snip-. Virtually no game has "modding support".

Same games do like: Simcity 4, ETS 2 and Minecraft (hell even some of the Dev's use mods)

I have already said this over on GTAForums;

As long as this "Denuvo DRM" only affects the Online component and leaves the Single Player component alone, I hope that is the lesser of two evils. smile.gif

Cheers.

I am confident that the modding community here and elsewhere will be able to work around the DRM to enable modding.

Cheers.

The only thing they can do is delay the inevitable, i believe in GTA IV if your game was pirated the camera would shake, but that was easily remedied.  GTA fans are a very passionate and determined bunch and when we want something we get it.

I for one wont be paying for the PC version, ive already paid rockstar twice for the same game and im not about to do it a third time. I understand they have put alot of time, money and effort into the game but i think they have made more than enough to cover all that.

That was your choice. You didn't have to buy it twice. If you only wanted the PC version, then you could have waited for that. Instead you decided to buy it. Rockstar isn't forcing you to purchase it multiple times, and it's not like they are going to make it free on PC.

No mod support? No shit. IV didn't have any either. IV included DRM too.

Remember Spore? The game with "uncrackable DRM"? Or how about the new Sim City? Both of these were cracked in relatively short periods of time.

Not sure about that the its the same DRM that's is used with lords of the fallen and fifa and those games still haven't been cracked yet, this DRM could be different but honestly this is GTA were talking about so could be possible the modders will crack the shit out of it.

My PROFILE

Why must these developers be so selfish? There is so much potential for games these days but companies want to try to put a cap on that potential. Mod creators have so much talent that they can share with other people. Plus, they waste their time and money putting in this security software for some 13 year old to crack through. Come on Rockstar, stop being so difficult!
