If G17 Media was asked to make a large (AAA) Police Sim, would you do it?

Featured Replies

I am mainly asking G17 media staff, but if some big company like EA or Take Two asked you to make a AAA police game, giving you a big budget, 40% of the profit and more resources, would you do it?

Lets say you get a huge bump in players so like two million people use your mod, and Take Two ask you (with a big fanbase) if you could make a police simulator, with both a singeplayer story and multiplayer aspect, would you do it? Or would you decline the offer?

I'm not going to answer the "would you do it" question for the reason stated above, I too am not part of the g17 media team.

However. Think about what you're suggesting with some sense. Why would EA or Take Two ask 3 mod authors to create an entire game when they are big time publishers with several studios under their belts? They wouldn't.

EA would sign a developer studio up to the job, and Take two would probably never ask them because they own Rockstar games, a company who dislikes modders ever since the hot coffee patch in SA.

Just throwing that out there....

I'm not a dev either, but I'd think they'd at least consider it - if a publisher asks them to make a game, it's no longer a volunteer effort on their part, but is instead a paying job with proper resources. People are more willing to do work if you pay them. Then it would go into whether game development is what they want as a career, or whether it can be leveraged into a career they want, or whether it would be wasted time career-wise.

I'm not staff either, but my 2 cents is there is what, 100,000 odd users here, even if they asked them now, that is an almost garunteed 100,000+ sales of copies right off the bat. If that did ever happen, I'd buy that game in a heartbeat.

This brings up my question: would the people at G17 be ready to take on such an undertaking?  I'm not putting down the team or anything, what they've done with GTA IV and LCPD:FR has been great thusfar, but it's building off an already existing game.  I'm interested if the development crew would actually be able to produce a game and not just act as counsel, which would be exciting.

Probably not, but I'm not a part of the G17 Media company that way. I'll leave that for Sam, Jay or LMS.

Well it's important to note that there's no company whatsoever.  A company suggests an organisation being run for commercial reasons - G17 Media is merely a name which we use to link things together and work under.

As a few others have suggested, this is something that just wouldn't happen.  The most likely scenario in my opinion that is even remotely close to this is that Rockstar would offer us a job with them.  I don't see that happening either though.

As far as raw abilities are concerned, Jay and LMS are extremely talented at what they do and I don't doubt that they could produce some amazing stuff - they already have here.  Making a game isn't about ability though, its about time, resources and money.  We have none of those.

I'm always looking for new experiences and challenges and creating a game is without doubt among the most complex and complicated things a programmer can realize. It involves dealing with all parts of a computer and touches every aspect, so it's definitely a rich experience. So if I had the time and they had the money, I'd probably consider it, yes.

I actually am happy that you agree, but the only part I really don't understand is that why would you not put  " Poll Vote " on www.lcpdfr.com and I doubt people will not have attention to that, I am sure every 3rd user will donate any amount of money. But the idea of mine is that if you think of creating a game, then you would of course get the part with the money done, the only thing on your side woud be the Time, right ?And see if you would be pulling out a great future and ideas , I just know people will donate because you will be the first group/organization to be able to create such Game, with amazing modifications :-) But looking at the Graphics, Rockstar Games and other people who spent their time into Grand theft Auto 4 ( both versions ) have done a great job to if you look from GTA SA > GTA 4 . From nearly all Fictional to amazing Realistic. I do know it will take a lot of time, but with A lot I would say 2 years till 1 year and a half ? But yea, as I said just put out a Poll, and a Donation tab RIGHT NEXT TO IT, you would put a message beside the donation tap saying , if you agree to the features to the game and maybe want us to add better graphics and whatsoever, then who says the wouldn't donate ?? Just think about it !

The problem is that donations are sparse and very little as is, and furthermore, they would need to hire modelers, more scripters and publicists to create a game as in depth as the mod on GTA IV. Besides the fact GTA IV is a terrible port prone to crashing without mods, the LCPDFR mod is close to as best as it will get. To make a game would take years, lots of money and publicists, most of which they do not have, and by the time it was completed, the map would be no where near as large as GTA IV, the animations and models wouldn't be as good, and the only thing that might be worthwhile is the scripting, which we already have.

Sticks and stones may break bones, but 5.56 fragments on impact.

It took Rockstar what like 3-4 years for GTA V to come out? Think of how long It would take to make a brand new game from scratch.

Keep in mind that they have thousands of programmers, modelers, scripters... . Here at LCPDFR there are not even a handfull of those types of people.

....I know that...I'm saying in general. Even if they had the resources to do it that doesn't automatically give them time.

At that point, you are very true, but except you have not thought of people who would do it for free. It is not something I would do as a Job, even though I am under 18, no it is something which I can do when the time I would have would be spare and so on, so why don't you ask people who would like do it for free ??? I mean, out of 100,000 members I doubt 20,000 of them would want to help and do things . I mean if you let me I will do it, but I cannot model, script. But the things I am personally very good at is hiring people to join us [ recruiter ] , I am very good at building websites though Templates, but one of the most important thing I have to offer is my creativity. I am very creative. I do see a 51% chance we, the whole community including its members, can create a game, and to be honest www.lcpdfr.com would be the first site in World history to gather such people and create a GAME :-) .

Thnx !

All the people that do stuff for free release stuff for free. It is extremely unlikely they would contribute to a project that would be sold, for money, if they would not get a share of that money.

Then everything would have to be scratch made, and would have to not be an exact replica of a real life project. There are only 2 people in the GTA police modding community I know of that can scratch model entire vehicles, let alone entire buildings, cities, roads, and all the other infrastructure required for a city.
