Announcing ELS V7 (UPDATE 02/05)

Featured Replies

Okay.Since I am in the offical MP testing team I wanted to give a little report.

TESTER:

ELS 7 works very smooth.there are some bugs which maybe have been fixed since I couldnt get the latest update yet.But its cool and adds more realism to the gameplay.(mostly said in the videos)

PERSONAL:

Personally I think ELS7 really is only for those who experience crashes with V6 or V5.I think its cool from Lt.Caine to update it but not really necessary.Yes it adds more realism to the gameplay but also its quite a thing to get your lights all ready (even worse for gamepad users). There is no big change for modders though which is really cool so you can use your older ELS cars with 7.

All in all its cool to have an update but also it really doesnt bring a "WOW that change sooooo much for me" effect.

NOTE: This is my personal opnion about ELS V7.I dont say Lt.Caine is doing not a good job.You may experience ELS7 in a different way. Also keep in mind my opinion is based on the test version of ELS7 so maybe I will be surprised at some point.

  • Are you paying to use the modification?   No.   Therefore you aren't "entitled" to a release date. He's doing this for free and as such, you shouldn't pressure him

  • To answer an earlier question, yes it does now have support for added vehicles, as well as boats! Nicolai and myself have been involved with this for a little while now, I've not had the chance to t

What exactly were you expecting to change in it? If you're not excited about new flash patterns, more stability, more realistic light staging (or whatever it is) and siren control, better environment lighting, patterns changing with the sirens, setting certain patterns to certain cars, and whatever else I may have missed...then you can't really expect to see much more from any emergency lighting mod except not using the extras system.

"Work and ideas get stolen, then you keep moving on doing your thing."

Oh, i didn't know that,. Could you please be more specific on that? Just for information.

However, in one of the earlier preview videos of ELS V7, Nicolai called over 30 backup cars, all using ELS, and only experienced lag. I also saw an episode today where he called at least 40 backup units, all using ELS again, within 5 minutes and he didn't crash.

Sticks and stones may break bones, but 5.56 fragments on impact.

i have a quick question on the config file (or ini where you configure the lights on els 7 lol) where their is extra 1 extra 2 ect... if you change it for example to extra 1 "yellow" will that be the reflection color or the light bar color or both? what im getting at is are the flashing light on the light bar on the .wtd file or is it now changeable from the ini or config file?

reflection color, lightbar color is only changeable by texture.

As a single-player tester, I'd say that it's not just that it's more stable - it also feels much more polished. Little things, like no random lights on AI cars, and AI using a pattern you pick, and the whole concept of lighting stages and their associated sirens, and the fact that AI pull over for ELS sirens, and the fact that you can easily use the horn *while* using an ELS siren, and, yes, the general stability.

Also, with backwards compatibility: In a way, it's *more* compatible with some v6 cars than v6 is; there are various things people did with ELS lights in v6 that are supported much better in v7 (like secondaries as additional lights, not just as arrowsticks). That said, there are some new features I don't think any current cars take advantage of.

It can take time to set up properly - v6 and below didn't have much in the INI, this has a lot. The default settings work pretty well, though, and it's easy for car makers to include their own files for their cars (because the config per car is in separate files, so it's easy to import).

Alright, thanks for that. I guess that answers my question. And that is great!

Accurate LAPD lighting:

(Don't mind me changing the secondary lightpattern at the beginning. It's a bug it wasn't changed automatic. In the final version of ELS, this will be.)

It'd be accurate if the wig-wags had this pattern:   Left, Left, Right, Right, Both, Both

and the strobes should have this pattern: left-right-left-right-left-right-left-right-both-both-both-both-both-both-both-both and it should be extremely fast.

It cycles through Left, Right, Left, Right, Left, Right, Left, Right, Both, Both, Left, Left, Right, Right, Left, Left, Right, Right, Both, Both - Which I think is close enough. About the strobes, they're mapped to the primary lights and therefore quite limited. You can regulate the speed of the lights via an entry in the .ini. Complete nitpicking, it's a videogame after all and we should be grateful we're even able to replicate it as closely to the original as this is.

I know exactly how it's made, I made the pattern myself. And I don't see why it'd be harder to make extra1 and extra4 flash faster then, making extra5 / extra6 flash faster. And if that pattern would be close enough, then we could say bugz's 2008 LAPD crown vic is close enough, while we know it's not. If it's not possible, I understand, but if it can be done, which I'm almost sure it is, then it'd be really neat seeing it.

Ps.: I don't want to pick on any1's mod, I just made a point.

Actually, LAPD uses different wigwag patterns. I've also seen left, left, right, right, both, both, left, right, left, right or even left/right only.

I'd also love to see a pattern with the correct settings for extra 1 und 4, but it is in my opinion not absolutely necessary, as this is pretty close to the real thing.

Favorite part about this, the fact that the people who arent testing, are trying to tell the people that are testing; how good the mod is... without even being on the testing team..

In his latest ELS test video at 5:00 mins in what did he say about Sam's other similar ELSh mod or something?  What is that?

That if people didn't like ELS because of the door bug they should look into ELS-H.

He said he will try to get a copy of ELS-DN to test as soon as he can and that it looks good.
