GTA V Coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC

If the Steam release includes Steam Workshop support for mods, then I think they've got another paying customer from me...

I don't think Rockstar is likely to have *any* support for mods. Quite the opposite, in fact - they specifically try to make modding hard.

    LSPD:FR here we come :O

  • Apparently the footage was captured on a PS4. One can only imagine how it's going to look on highest settings on the PC. I need to build my new computer.....now. My 68 Mustang can wait.

  • I think it's best if Rockstar adopts the G17 Media Release Date Policy TM ; "Done when it's done!"

will you guys release a new lcpdfr for gta v?

LMS has already partially answered this. Please look through the topic.

At this moment, we do not even know if GTA V PC will be modable.

Invenio, Investigatio, Imperium

Back when I was on dial-up years ago, Steam was a no-go for distribution. But it ended up being a life-saver when my second hand HL2 was missing a disc; Steam installed the missing files automatically when I took my PC to a friends house. I know it's a failure point in the future if the service goes down or my account gets burned, but it's a convenience that's nice to have, plus deals are great.

This level of open world immersion these graphical and technical changes is going to provide will be EPIC! Can't wait for LSPD:FR and in general the mods the PC community comes up with! *drools*

I read this on GTAF:

"Max Payne 3, their most recent PC game, had Iron Wrapper by Gameshield. It was basically a file encryption that made it impossible to mod.

Who is to say GTA V won't have the same thing?"

It is possible to bypass, it makes it harder for modders though :/

Because it's GTA. Max Payne is cool & all but people will do anything to mod gta even if it means the impossible it will get done one way or another.

I'm willing to bet that on PC they will make single player and multiplayer 2 different programs/.exe files on your computer. There will one application for single player, and one application for multiplayer (GTA Online). The multiplayer program will have tight as hell security/DRM and will be impossible to mod. You can see from all of the patches that have already gone into GTA V, with patches being released literally days after new glitches and mods are found. Single player on the other hand will be much like GTA IV and will be open to mods. They are only concerned with protecting multiplayer.

I have to agree with Bugs on this one. People want mods for GTA, so they will do it by any means necessary.

I bought GTA IV strictly for LCPDFR, nothing else. I don't expect any sort of LCPDFR mod for GTA V until many months, if not a year even, after the release. IF people expect a mod by the devs when the game comes out, they are daft. Because if there are the security measures for GTA V that are speculated, it sounds like it is going to be a bitch to mod.

I'm a little late but.... I TOLD YOU ALL :D WE GETTING IT YUUUUSH <3

I hope it's better than GTA IV on PC plus they make mods easier to install, like a skyrim/oblivion option where you can check or uncheck the ones you want on. I think my GTX 765m can handle it <3

I think we're forgetting the obvious fact here- R* aren't so dumb that they think that people will be happy with just the Vanilla game, they know that 75% or more of people who bought IV wanted it just for the mods. Releasing a GTA game with tighter-than-tight file encryption and impossible modding just doesn't make sense- it would be financial suicide. I am in favor of having 2 .exe's for singleplayer and Online tho, that would greatly simplify the whole issue- they can mess around with the Online all they like, Singleplayer will be the only one I'm gonna use.

theres a first person mod someone did for the xbox 360 videos on youtube so im pretty sure it will be moddable just like iv

GTA IV open to mods?

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH. Heh.

GTA IV is not even remotely designed to be moddable. Rockstar initially had it less obfuscated, but has tightened obfuscation (e.g. by hashing native function names). They have zero interest in people messing around with game code. Zilch. Reason #1: DRM (specifically, the tasks performed by scripters and by crackers are not all that different). Reason #2: Protecting their IP (they don't want third-party modders learning how they do things). Keep dreaming that Rockstar likes modders and wants to make their lives happy. I can assure you that they don't.

On the topic of two programs: Not likely to happen under any circumstances. Why spend time and effort developing anti-reversing stuff just to not use it on the single-player game? If they have two separate executables, you're making the project substantially more complex, separating two things that really belong in the same program, all to enhance people's experience doing something you certainly don't particularly want them to do.

My opinion is that we'll probably get some type of mods in single player (if people wanna mod the game, they'll find a way). However, I don't think we'll have multiplayer mods. Rockstar will probably consider those cheating, since in multiplayer there is a ranking system and whatnot. I wish there was a "party-mode" or something we could do where we couldn't rank up. Like "unranked servers" in Battlefield.
