New Rockstar statement on modding

  • Popular Post

As I'm sure everyone will be aware, the single hottest topic recently, throughout the entire GTA community, has been the closure of OpenIV and the controversial statement released by Rockstar Games shortly after.

Today, Rockstar Games have released a new statement, answering Are PC Single-Player mods allowed?:

Quote

Rockstar Games believes in reasonable fan creativity, and, in particular, wants creators to showcase their passion for our games. After discussions with Take-Two, Take-Two has agreed that it generally will not take legal action against third-party projects involving Rockstar’s PC games that are single-player, non-commercial, and respect the intellectual property (IP) rights of third parties. This does not apply to (i) multiplayer or online services; (ii) tools, files, libraries, or functions that could be used to impact multiplayer or online services, or (iii) use or importation of other IP (including other Rockstar IP) in the project. This is not a license, and it does not constitute endorsement, approval, or authorization of any third-party project. Take-Two reserves the right to object to any third-party project, or to revise, revoke and/or withdraw this statement at any time in their own discretion. This statement does not constitute a waiver of any rights that Take-Two may have with respect to third-party projects.

Obviously, this is fantastic news for everyone, and we're grateful to Rockstar for clarifying the situation.  Furthermore, it's been incredible, just amazing, to see the support from across the gaming community for our cause.

Very quickly, let's also say a special thanks to our very own LSPDFR member @t0y, whose petition to save OpenIV amassed a mind blowing 75,000 signatures in the space of a week!

It's been truly awesome to see the outpouring of support from everyone regarding this.  Thank you to everyone who has contributed towards bringing us this very welcome piece of news.

Yeah, frig off T2 cunts. I'll smash ya next time without warning. Cute 2D girls can fight too, ya know.

  • What a major victory for every member of the GTA modding community that kept backing the OpenIV team. Very grateful to everybody who signed the petition, left a negative Steam review and covered this

This is awesome to hear!

"Please, put it in park, will ya?" "LSPD, see the lights, pullover." "Stop the vehicle, we need to have a little chat!" "Get in the car and keep your mouth shut." "You have the right to absolutely nothing." "The damn gun is jammed!"

"Rockstar Games seems to have moderated Take-Two's position, and has also told Motherboard that it is in contact with Krivoruchko with the intention of resolving the issue."

Krivoruchko = GooD-NTS, so hopefully OpenIV gets to continue being developed.

Thanks!

So good to see the end to this dispute. It was truly amazing seeing the entire modding community come together to get this going and that petition! Also happy to see the newest SHV officially released. Let's get back on the streets!!

p.s- hopefully my GTA V works

To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

Congradulations everyone it sounds like rockstar and take two have heard our voice and see for themselves that the modding community, although not a big slice of there revenue is still a big enough piece that will need to be appeased as well.

Just want to say thank you to @toy for getting all those signatures and everyones help in the community to spread the word.

Our word was definitely heard after over 75k people sign the petition and over 30k negative reviews dropped in such a short time to make this much noise

We are definitely a huge community in that being the mod community.

So T2 openly admits they are a bunch of idiots for saying OpenIV allowed for "malicious online mods", and that their excuse for taking down OpenIV was a complete and utter lie. What a beautiful company of retards.

Just downloaded an OpenIV updated that was 20mb. The update must have been released within the past few hours.
