OpenIV discontinued | Take Two claims game modding "illegal"

Message added by Cyan

Don't post any links to GoFundMe or Kickstarter pages here as we cannot verify where any funds would go.

OpenIV have a donation link on their website if you wish to contribute directly to them, although it is doubtful they would continue even with financial support.

Please don't upload or share versions of OpenIV - we don't have permission from the OpenIV team to host their work on our community.

This is making me laugh. Take 2 a, such a joke, why do they even have anything to do with GTA V? It should be all R* then all would be good. It isn't like they don't have money to run it. I got a question also, is Alexander Blake (creator of ScriptHookV) on the OPENiV team? And if so, does this mean we wont see an update to it?

OpenIV was asked to stop, the developers weren't asked to necessarily cease from all coding that wasn't part of OpenIV...

Any ways, I think I'm going to start working on an Alternative to OpenIV... probably I'll start next week..

The problem is hardly that OpenIV is going to be stopped or difficult to obtain, it's mirrored in so many places that I think some elementary level Googling can find it.

The issue is the future features that were coming to OpenIV that only a few people talented at reverse engineering would be able to pull off (e.g. full animation support and some of the files we don't quite understand yet). There's enough documentation already on Github that any idiot could throw together a sub-par OpenIV as it stands right now.

I know everyone is shocked and disappointed right now, but look on the bright side - lets go back to LCPDFR and make new life to GTA IV, lets make new callouts and mods for lcpdfr

Ridiculous. This only shows how out of touch T2 is with the gaming community in general. Surely someone there should have foreseen the massive backlash they'll face by targeting the heart of modding for their games. It's simply PR suicide. After what I've been hearing of T2's CEO from Jim Sterling's videos, I suppose he doesn't care one bit so long as he can continue to milk as much money as he can from a sales juggernaut of a game like GTAV.

Hard to make a new life to IV when OpenIV was a large part of IV as well, but I guess we have SparkIV too.

I'll go with you... Just started getting back into both SAPDFR and LCPDFR

It's not like you GTA IV has changed to where you can't use OpenIV... Don't be so negative, OpenIV is still usable...

Are cease and desist letters indefinite? In other words, is it possible that OpenIV and T2/R* can come to some sort of compromise?

I hope so :O I am thinking that after T2 have seen the backlash that has happened, that they will come to an agreement and sort everything out.

No. and Yes. Probability of that happening with the attitude of Take2 = 0

Are T2 the boss of R*? Cos, I am sure that R* did not want this, as they haven't even said anything about modding being bad (other than GTA:O oc). So would R* be able to do anything here?

I know it's wishful thinking. But couldn't the OpenIV team remove some features that R*/T2 are pissed about. I know it's not fair to compromise but some of future OpenIV is better than no future OpenIV

They could, but R* and Take2 were never specific about what the real issue was.

Not to us at least. I assume they were specific with the OpenIV team.

Actually Good-NTS said they weren't and asked specifically for an email of what they had done and they never sent one...

In all honesty, I feel like this whole situation will blow over. I'm not quite understanding T2's problem here, the GTA V modding community is mainly concentrated on PC and dealing with singleplayer modifications. Of course there's the handful of modder/hackers who have taken these modifications to far and apply them to online across all platforms but they're super easy to take care of considering R*'s online monitoring. But if shit does hit the fan and there's some serious law implemented here, I have a strong feeling T2/R* are gonna lose a whole customer base.

To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

I think I speak for most of the texture artists, scripters and vehicle modders here...

I have faith in the OpenIV team will work to some conclusion that's a compromise between them and rockstar. Take 2 can just go shove it where the sun don't shine. When will this be? I'm not sure but there's plenty of offline versions of OpenIV and reverted versions of GTA 1032 online for the meantime. All you have to do is look.  Good luck on your future GTA endeavors.

Yes! I find it hard to believe that after 10 years they are just gonna give up. This isn't the end of GTA modding or OpenIV

I agree with you and this thing that happened is just a bump in the road and GTA modding will continue and so will OpenIV
