My Thoughts on V Modeling

Featured Replies

I will just say this.  I think it is ridiculous to suggest there is anything wrong with people giving their opinion on a discussion forum.  A discussion forum is, perhaps unsurprisingly, built on discussions.  People from all sides of the debate have weighed in here with their opinions.  When there's pictures of what is likely to be the 'hottest' car model appearing, are you really surprised that there's a bunch of people who want to talk about it?  I'm sure many people are of the opinion that it is especially important for such a model to be released unlocked, and they're anxious to make sure their voice is heard - and so they should (just as many modders are making sure their voices are heard on the ZModeler forums).

If you want to know why many people are particularly concerned by this, there's one simple reason.  In GTA IV, the first Crown Victoria model was restricted to three people for at least half a year!  I'm not going to debate the ethics of the actual locking functionality itself - as I said, I believe that if the program used to export the models offers that choice - then that is the choice of the person exporting the model to make.  While everyone must accept that this is their choice - the one thing that we should be allowed to debate is whether or not this is the right choice.

Honestly, if people feel like 'leaving' LCPDFR because we allow this debate, then I'm not sure I'd want them here in the first place.  Many of these same people are doing the exact same thing over on the ZModeler forums where they're arguing for the inclusion of the locking feature.  All the talk of models not being released because there is no locking is concerning to many people, especially with all the pictures of Crown Victorias going around, despite the fact nobody knows if they'll even be released.

Don't forget that a lot of youtubers are now using a 'beta' CVPI model and are going batshit crazy about it, thus making people want it more...

Sam, you've hit the nail on the head here, the reason the community thrives here is just that, it's a community with a real sense of free speech.  There are few forums in the GTA community as open and free as what we have here at LCPDFR and you're damned right, if someone posts videos and pictures of a mod, then yeah, I, like everyone else, want to know more about it.  Debate is healthy and it's also optional....if you don't like the debate....simply stay away from it!

To those saying they will leave the LCPDFR community for simply allowing this discussion and debate, why?  In my opinion, that's a really juvenile stance to take.

On the more technical side - even if Oleg added a locking option to Zmodeler now, it would still be possible to open locked files with an older version, then save them as a .z3d file and edit the the newest one. I don't really see how adding a lock option would change anything at all now.

Just something to consider.

I just don't understand why there's a desire to force modders to give their stuff unlocked.

I think you didn't understand the real debate here. People don't want to force modelers to give their stuff unlocked, they wish them to not refuse to release because there's no lock function. That's completely different.

I think I did or my English is that bad I can't read.

I have deeply hated any screenshot post on the gallery showing off a model with a small "not going to be released" below, it's just plain stupid. It's as if a baker was waving a chocolate cake right in front of you and then removed it and said "Nope, you ain't gonna have a crumb of it". This kind of behavior looks a lot like attention-grabbing to get compliments like 'omg ur car iz gud' and stuff. If you don't plan to release something, keep it to yourself, period. I'm glad some modifications have been brought related to that.

And let's be honest anyway. Vehicle modders want their models locked? Even if they managed to lock them somehow, someone will -always- manage to break through. Everything gets ripped. Movies, musics, games, OS. It's the internet, that's how it is. Deal with it or don't and stop using it.

 >If you don't plan to release something, keep it to yourself, period.

All the technical issues were brought in later. As I tried to express in my post, I am not competent enough to discuss the technical side of things, being an ordinary consumer. I simply think this is rude to arbitrary decide how other people should handle the things they make (even if it's not a scratch made model).

Our voices were heard folks, an option never hurt. I wasn't really apart of this discussion, but hopefully from here we can band together as a community and work on bringing even more high quality mods and models to GTA V. Happy Modding Everyone!

It looks like models can be unlocked and edited using older versions of Zmodeler, like @Yard1 predicted.

Anyway, this shifts the debate back to LCPDFR.com itself, and what we'll do (or not do) about locked models, as we're now forced to have the debate internally as this is now an option.

Understandable. Only Beta versions of zmodeler can be used as the lock feature wasn't incorporated, as Oleg stated. Whether or not those versions are floating around or not is up in the air.

I was hoping he would do this. Like he said, it is not a 100% guarantee, but it will stop most newbie rippers who would give up after Zmodeler refuses to import the model.

Oleg stated that there will be ways around it, but hopefully this results in some more high quality models being released.

It is very much a beta model, it doesn't have proper collisions and other lighting issues. The good news is that it should be released either tonight or tomorrow. Myself and Buggs both agree that we won't use models that won't be released to the public.

That's what I like to see, with CZG's total view count, that would mean a lot of people would have been losing their shit over the CVPI.
(P.S - Don't think i'm saying its just you, there are quite a few youtubers doing it)

I'll be making a statement on the state of vehicle modifications in GTA V and some changes to our guidelines in the next day or so.  To say it again though, I do respect that to lock models is the free choice for the person clicking export to make.  If this is something that people want to do, then that's fine and they'll be more than welcome to upload such files to the site.
