Don't post any links to GoFundMe or Kickstarter pages here as we cannot verify where any funds would go.

OpenIV have a donation link on their website if you wish to contribute directly to them, although it is doubtful they would continue even with financial support.

Please don't upload or share versions of OpenIV - we don't have permission from the OpenIV team to host their work on our community.

Judging how easily the ratings of GTA V on Steam have flipped to negative, I'd say it is not that negligeable...

The *recent* ratings flipped to negative. V has been out for years. Not a whole lot of people are still buying and reviewing it.

How legit is that? Do we know it was used for that purpose.?

Also "We are working to figure out how we can continue to support the creative community without negatively impacting our players." seems hopeful

By the way, for people talking about Take-Two vs. Rockstar: Take-Two owns the copyright to GTA V (or at least they did when they registered it). The "Rockstar" EULA is actually an agreement between you and Take-Two. I'm pretty sure Rockstar legally can't sue you for violating the GTA V copyright; that's a right of the copyright owner, which is Take-Two. Who sent the letter doesn't necessarily reflect whose decision it was.

PC Gamer just posted that they received a statement from Rockstar.

 http://www.pcgamer.com/heres-rockstars-statement-about-take-two-shutting-down-gtas-openiv-modding-tool/

The statement is in quotes below, supposedly from Rockstar.

"Take-Two's actions were not specifically targeting single player mods. Unfortunately OpenIV enables recent malicious mods that allow harassment of players and interfere with the GTA Online experience for everybody. We are working to figure out how we can continue to support the creative community without negatively impacting our players."

I am just an average guy who loves GTA. I am in no way a professional player just someone who loves to play GTA in my spare time. I don't always follow traffic laws in the game but nobody is perfect.

If it is, it's some serious propaganda being driven forward by them. OpenIV did not enable to people to wreak havoc in GTA O. That's just straight up lies. And what's Liberty City got to do with that?

Yeah seriously. It's some awful damage control.

Well they responded faster than i expected. Although timing is impressive the reasoning is complete garbage.

That's pretty terrible timing. They sent the letter over a week ago, and had time before they even sent it to work out a statement.

Sorry let me clarify. There timing as far as releasing a statement is impressive. They said they would release a statement shortly and instead of weeks later they did same day. Thats impressive. The statement released however is garbage

@Cyan @Sam Y'all please do what you can to keep this website up. Whether or not it's going to be soon I'm not sure, but eventually Take-Twat will find this site. Honsetly, it sounds to me as if it's a violation of Russian Laws, and it doesn't really matter in America. We gotta fight for it guys ;)

Keep modding guys, no one knows, no one cares, honestly... OpenIV won't be outdated except for some newer DLC's most likely, so mod to your hearts content. I'm a keep at it for as long as I can. I'm not buying a nother Rock* game. Police 1013 should have an Alpha out by next January - June

OG Here. One of the few people on here with a legal background and a level head. Please let me explain.

Been at this stuff for recreation & YouTube since 2011. I made a video explaining the full legal parameters, scope, history, and significance of all of this. Here is the link if you are interested:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_ffiIp218k

The TL DR version of it is the following. CALM DOWN. Everyone needs to calm down. This doesn't mean you can't play GTA 5, use GTA 5 mods, or make GTA videos any more. All it means in the most literal sense is that if you update to the Gunrunners DLC, you can't use vehicle, texture, sound mods. You can back up your game and keep using OpenIV and all the mods you want, until something is changed. That's all it means.  I'm sure there will  be some bootleg Chinese "OpenIV" that will come out. Rockstar's statement on this and their previous behavior would indicate they are not actively opposed to modding. Chill out.

Here is the problem. There is no such thing as "GTA Mod Laws." There is copyright law, US Code, case law, case precedents, DMCA, etc. The internet and the digital realm is poorly regulated and even more poorly litigated. The result is that large corporations that can easily pay tweedy $800+/hr Manhattan attorneys to twist the law however is convenient to shake people down, can and will. People can't afford to fight back so it works, right or wrong.

While I am hopelessly biased toward the video creators, the modders, etc., I must admit I feel OpenIV is in the wrong. The whole thing exists in a massive grey area as it is, and I know from experience that OpenIV and its creators have always pushed the envelope when it comes to reverse engineering Rockstar's creations. Whether it was the Liberty City to GTA 5 mod (borderline legally indefensible) or simply how far OpenIV's creators got into Rockstar's sock drawer, this was bound to happen. OpenIV's creator(s) acknowledged this as well as the fact they felt it would ultimately happen.

Take Two Interactive's bread and butter is GTA Online, Shark Cards, and the proliferation of freemium micro-transaction sausage making. The integrity of GTA Online has always been paramount to Rockstar Games, and OpenIV's continuous reverse engineering of the game's systems, as well as other transgressions which at this point seem to be known only to Take Two's counsel and OpenIV's creator, crossed the line for Take Two.

REMEMBER: OpenIV has been around for about 10 years, and it has been around for 2 years for GTA 5 alone. Ask yourself-----why now?

Why all of a sudden?

OpenIV went too far into Rockstar's proprietary sock drawer. That's why.

All we need is a mod that lets you replace a Sultan with a Ferrari; a "SparkIV" for GTA 5.

Then all will be well. Just calm down.

Why do people go into reviews for GTA V and just sh*t talk it, giving it bad reviews. This isn't going to change their stance on modding, only make the game look bad to new players. There is no point running the game into the ground, just because the OPEN IV team have stopped producing updates to their software, as a result of Money2.

~Slushy

So this'll be my last post for a while.

OpenIV probably was at risk of being shut down by TTWO. The Liberty City mod, however, HASTENED this shut-down, in my opinion.

There's reprecussions going around now. GTA V is being flooded with negative reviews. Major gaming news sites and YouTubers are covering this. And for now, we can still use OpenIV, but not for long.

As a small-time GTA IV modder, I've been hit hard by this. OpenIV has a decent WFT viewer, but SparkIV doesn't. This means I can't preview textures without launching the game, making it harder to start analysing what went wrong and what went right, if I use SparkIV. It also means I can't take screenshots for my uploads, leaving them dead in the water if I want to keep within the rules. However, I am seeking alternatives.

There are some crying violence, there are some panicking, and there are some blaming the devs. Honestly, now that I think of it, OpenIV were in the wrong. But as @Senatov said, we need a SparkIV for GTA V - something that keeps within the rules, doesn't get risky with their projects, and in all, just avoids GTA O and lets you install Ford Granadas in place of Staniers. (someone please make that)

In all, now we wait for a solution. So everyone, while we wait for something like SparkIV, or some resolution, go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for all of this to blow over.

It's been three years, but I'm back again...
