Battlefield 1

Featured Replies

So it's been revealed that the latest Battlefield 5 game will actually be called Battlefield 1... because it's set in an alternate history World War I. They've listened to us and got rid of the future shit and gone waaaay back.

Honestly, I was hoping for World War II, but this looks pretty damn sweet anyway. I'm sure to pick this up when it comes out.

JackFrags ran a poll in which the majority of people voted for World War II while World War I was in last place. It's not Jack's fault. Granted I'd much prefer World War II, but I'll take World War I

Uh... no... it doesn't. RO2 plays NOTHING like a Battlefield game, not even close. RO2 is a slow paced, strategic, cover to cover style FPS which is the complete opposite of Battlefield. Battlefield i

I was also hoping it'd be set in WW2 like a Medal of Honour type thing but even though it looks alright I don't think I'm going to even bother with it. I really hope the  horses and swords versus guns and planes was just in there for fun because that'd be one shit fight!

Battlefield 2 is the one and only in my opinion. I haven't enjoyed any Battlefield after that except for Bad Company 1 & 2. Hell, I still play BF2 (even without Project Reality) sometimes. I should probably try 2142, it looks quite nice.

The funny thing is that, a few years ago, almost every FPS player was complaining that every FPS being released was set during the WWII. Literally. Every. FPS. And when Modern Warfare came out, it was like the messiah, every one was praising it and was happy it was FINALLY set in a modern setting. And today, everyone is complaining that almost every FPS is set in a modern/futuristic time.

I guess players are rather capricious.

They didn't listen. Everyone wanted WW2 or BC3. It shows a complete disregard to what the community thinks. And instead of asking the community their option they'd rather ask idiots like Jack Frags. Because apparently that one guy knows what the 300'000 people want. Ugh. The game will die off in a couple off weeks. I'm calling it

It looks amazing. As most I was hoping for WW2, but hey. Maybe that's next. However, at least we'll have an actual good game to play, and on-top of that, it's got no stupid flying. I think the like to dislikes on the Call of Duty trailer compared to the Battlefield 1 trailer just shows what the Community want. I'm completely stoked, I cannot wait for this game, looks like it's going to be some entertaining open environment warfare.

This looks freaking amazing. I'm so sick of all the futuristic type stuff that everyone seems to be doing, especially Call of Duty. Did you hear? Infinite Warfare is featuring Star Wars related space battles, LOL. I'm just happy to see a decent change from the redundancy that we've been getting for a while not.

DICE could also create a story that leads into WW2. I feel like this was kind of a test by DICE to see if people would actually want something like this. Just comparing the number of likes to dislikes on the Infinite Warfare trailer to this trailer says it all.

This...I don't understand why everyone is saying they wanted WWII. Those games that are set in WWII are still there, you can still play them, and there's a seemingly infinite amount of them. I'm glad they decided on WWI, it's much more unique and will definitely be more interesting than another WWII game.

Because they're all really old (the early 2000s saw the huge amount of World War II titles), many of them don't have active servers anymore, campaigns are pretty much non-existent and graphics, mechanics and controls are well... outdated and poor. There's only been two World War II games that I can honestly think of released in recent years and those are Rising Storm and Heroes & Generals (Insurgency too if you count the World War II mod).

Given that the last 6 Call of Duty titles have been set in the future and that every Battlefield game since 2005 has been modern warfare (excluding Bad Company: Vietnam [DLC] and Battlefield 1943 [console digital download only]), I think we're well due another triple A World War II title considering the last time we got one was nearly a decade ago.

Regardless, I'm glad that Battlefield has gone back to World War I instead of pursuing the future like Call of Duty. It's a massive change-up and I can't wait to play it.

The only fun game I've played set in WW2 is Red Orchastra 2, and that was released Five Years ago, and while some may argue that's not that long ago, technology has changed and games like it can be made to be a hundred times better. I'm just hoping they are able to create some great Multiplayer experiences, because that's where most of us are going to end up.

I just can't see what they could do with WWII that hasn't already been done. Red Orchastra 2 already plays exactly like Battlefield (squad-based teams, attrition-style game mode, large maps with a lot of players, classes, vehicles, etc). I guess it would be nice to see WWII in the current Battlefield style with HD graphics, but I would probably feel like I'm playing a remastered version of some other game, especially considering they have all played almost exactly the same since 3 (at least).

All I'm saying is that I'm glad they are doing something different. The 2000s was the decade of WWII shooters, 2010s have been the decade of futuristic shooters, so it's nice to see a big developer trying something unique. That being said, I probably won't buy it...I've played every Battlefield beta since 3, but never actually purchased any of them.

I'm a huge Battlefield fan. I jumped on with the original Bad Company. Played a lot of BC2/BC Vietnam and loved BF3. BF4 was okay, and I saw a bit of a misstep, but I still enjoyed my time with it.

I'm extremely excited for BF1. It seems that BF is going back to it's true roots. Yeah, I wish it was set in WW2, RO just isn't the same as a BF set in WW2, but I'll take it much more willingly than a super futuristic game. If I want jetpacks and lasers, I'll play SW Battlefront.

I think this will be the game that Battlefield fans have been waiting for. There's plenty of vehicles and weapons from WW1, and even some that entered service late 1917/1918 and lasted into WW2. So I think we'll still get that feeling.

I think the reason why so many people want WW2 is because they grew up with it, and there are no longer servers or the ability to just play these games, especially with our current PC builds. These games are just too old now to work properly. I think BF1 will give us this hint of nostalgia that we so desperately crave.

......And in other news, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare trailer has reached 1.3 million dislikes on YouTube. It's amazing, it seems to get about 30 dislikes every second. Just refresh the page constantly and look at the dislikes.
