I would probably go with K-9 or Tactical Response Unit. I'm not really sure why. Patrol might be good too.

I'm actually gonna change my answer. I would like tactical because in a lot of departments you patrol, but you're still on call for swat/tactical calls and stuff

Either within the Narcotics division, SOT, SRO, and of course Patrol.

Same thing in nursing, unfortunately. Just saved someone's life during a code? Wonderful, now you've got a shitload of charting to look forward to! Paperwork tends to ruin the romanticism of most careers, it seems.

I'm surprised no one has said this yet, but park ranger or conservation work. Decent pay (Unless its NYC), make your own hours.... Take home unit!!

CHP is very competitive. Everytime they have a hiring period about 60,000 people apply then about 300 get accepted about 250 make it past the physical and about 150 pass the written. Then about 75-100 graduate the academy. When you're an explorer you get put at the top of the hiring list. If you joined now you'd be academy ready in a few years. You learn everything about doing the job. Infact I just got off a 12 hour ride along shift, and as a CHP explorer your not just riding along you're being cover officer, you're talking to dispatch, running plates, updating the activity log, filling out citations and so much more. If your serious about the CHP then joining the explorer program is the best thing you could possibly do.

Well, I'm looking to join the local sheriff's office and i will most likely go with K-9 or Traffic. I've never really been that interested in undercover work or a SERT/SWAT team.

Traffic, don't know why I just like when I see officers working Traffic Enforcement and then they point at a car to pull over. Then you would say something like, ''Ooooooo your in trouble.''

Patrol. Answering calls in the area, traffic stops. Always loved that stuff and always will.
