Baby was removed from the vehicle at 7:40. And the turret thing is actually a gas injector unit. It penetrates hard surfaces and dispenses tear gas. So if the guy did move, it still would've done its purpose, as it's supposed to hit his car, not him.
On average of 6 months for academy training only. They're on probation/hands on training for another 3-12 months. It's not great, but because of how sucky our general society is, a lot of places can't afford to have officers in training for 2+ years before being allowed to patrol. This can be alleviated with more in house training, but that also cost money. Money that these kind of places (in the video) don't have. Sucks, but that's life.

Will probably never happen. Our governments have unofficial "buy American" mandates.  And I doubt the cost of importing, outfitting and maintaining European vehicles can compete with the costs of sticking with American.

Police rarely fire their weapons outside of state required qualification, which in most states is only twice a year and done in a mostly static position. Each agency has their own standards, training and curriculum in place, but budget and quite frankly relevance (it is extremely rare that a cop draws their gun, let alone fires it) make it a lower priority. Additionally, a direct quote from one cop I've talked to is "most cops only care that their gun goes bang when they pull the trigger." Plus police officers rarely train on their own time unless they are into guns.

To me, the most alarming thing in the video is the lack of cover. There were half a dozen cops exposed to a known armed suspect for several minutes, but it took forever for someone to comment on it. All it takes is a split second for a shot to be fired towards them. With the lack of cover, it made an incident of the child hostage being hit much more likely should the suspect open up.

This argument has been hashed out time, and time, and time again on here. I still haven't seen a shred of evidence that I'd be safer without my guns.

Crime rates in the US are dropping as well while thousands of guns are being purchased every day. This is with every single state allowing concealed carry permits for it's residents and many states having no requirement for a permit to carry.

The problem with arguments like yours is that it inherently assumes all people who have firearms are evil and looking to kill each other. If this was the case, then suburban and rural areas would be littered with bodies, as they have the highest firearm ownership rates.

You conveniently ignored the most damning part of my post, so I'll elaborate on it. After the "Assault Weapon" Ban of 1994, the Clinton administration, easily the most successful administration to wage war on the 2nd amendment, directed the Center for Disease Control to study the use of firearms in self defense cases. It's results completely contradicted what they were hoping for. The 10 year study, from 1994 to 2004, found firearms were used in self defense cases to prevent  crimes between 800,000 to 2.5 million times. The reason why an exact number is so hard to find is because if a crime is prevented, then there is no reason for police to make a report on it.

The reason why people like me cling to our guns so feverishly is because they are a great equalizer.  A favorite quote of mine is "God created man, Samuel Colt made them equal." An average woman would have no hope of fighting off an average male attempting to cause her harm. An elderly person would have no hope of fighting off an average male attempting to harm him or her. An average male would have no hope of fighting off multiple men attempting to harm him or his family.

A majority of gun crime is committed in low income areas in major cities, where gang life is the only way to make money. Those areas also have the strictest gun control laws. For a while, it was illegal to leave your house with a firearm in Chicago unless it was disassembled. Surprisingly, gangbangers didn't give a shit about it.

A majority of mass shootings, which make the news far more often than the 50+ people shot a week in Chicago, occur in gun free zones. In Nevada, it is illegal to bring a firearm into a hotel. That didn't stop Steven Paddock. It is illegal nationwide to bring a firearm into a school. That didn't stop Adam Lanza. James Holmes, the shooter who shot up a screening of The Dark Knight Rises, had multiple theaters with larger auditoriums closer to home than the one he chose. The one he went to was a gun free zone.

People that commit mass shootings are attempting to get the highest body count. They can't do that if some one shoots back at them because it brings them from offense to defense. Or it just kills them. In a vast majority of cases, attempted mass shooters either give up or kill themselves when confronted with some one with a gun, be it law enforcement or civilians.

Firearms are used for sport, hunting (unlike Germany, there is vast wilderness in the US with large predators), and most importantly, to protect the most inherent natural right, the one to self defense.

In a city with 8 million+ people, the cost of this is to the taxpayers is miniscule, like almost non existent. And so what they're catering to the LGBT minority? It's the Pride March, and that minority was the victim in the deadliest terrorist attack in the US since 9/11. Seriously, the people criticizing this are the type of people that bitch about everything.

    Wow, you're serious, aren't you?

Jail and handcuffs may be a joke, as they're used to subdue and contain the suspect until the court hears his case. They're not supposed to be used to teach lessons or punish people. If suspects are noncompliant, there are variety of other means, including the lethal force. The US has one of the most relaxed lethal force usage standards that I know of, and you're saying this isn't enough?

Gangs and violent crimes don't appear out of nowhere and are not foreign invaders that must be killed by any means. In case of many Latin America countries gangs in those famous favelas appear because of the poor economic situation, work problems, lack of education and means to support a family by honest living. Instead of solving these problems, governments create paramilitary units with police powers, give them APCs and a green light for free fire. Are you saying the US (with its highest GDP, strong economy etc) is this deep down it has to declare a war on its citizens?

Don't get me wrong, I'm in no way supporting or defending the criminals. However, the police is the wrong tool to use to solve such complicated problems as ethnic crime, ghetto crime and so on. It's like the school shootings, you can increase the police presence as much as you wish, but the reasons lie elsewhere. And suggesting that brutal treatment will do any good other than make them hate the cops even more and open the police to lawsuits from innocents mistaken for criminals (and beaten to the near death) is, in my opinion, incorrect.

I don't think any of us Americans said it was impossible, just incredibly impractical in most situations. And kind of counterproductive imo. Seems retarded to shoot someone in the legs to preserve their life...when again...you're shooting them to do it. Other tools could've arguably have be applied first, if the cops didn't put themselves in the shittiest position possible. Also the Wendy's video isn't a good referral for something like this. They thought the dude had a gun, and they thought he fired it too, so that's why you get a much crazier reaction.

But this shooting..."Oh hey, there's the terror suspect. Lemme hop on this bike and then get within 3-5 yards of him with no cover. What a surprise, he's coming after me. Looks like I need to shoot since I put myself in this shitty position. Now instead of aiming for center mass on a moving target, you know that tactic that's taught pretty much everywhere that trains people in firearms...Lemme just unload at his legs and basically put him in an equally as deadly situation, just with shitty shot placement. Oh look, the shot to legs admittedly did not completely stop him yet, now we still need to tase the dude." Police work should not be done like that lol. And guns should not be applied in a "quasi less-lethal" way. A well equipped department in the US probably could've done this without shooting the guy at all. I say well equipped, because not many departments carry beanbag shotguns or impact launchers in patrol cars.

So we'll watch, but I don't think we need to learn from you guys lol
