Are You Religious, Or Non-Religious?

I'm a Theist, always have been. Although I support scientific theories, I still believe in a numinous figure. As the saying goes,  I'd rather live my whole life assuming there is a God, only to find out that there isn't, than to live my whole life assuming there isn't a God, only to find out there is.

Exactly how i feel... Well said.

The reason that people are probably referring to the bible, is because the Bible is a conglomerate of first person accounts during the time that Jesus Christ was on Earth. The people in the Bible, talk about their experiences with Jesus and how Jesus made their lives better, and helped them through their struggles. This is why a lot of Christians refer to the Bible as a defense against religious arguments. Now whether or not you believe in what you're reading, is where the difference in religion comes into play.

im an Atheist for several reasons i'll only say 2 to make sure i wont offend anyone as i do believe that everyone has the right to their own beliefs im not one of those atheists that try to turn people away..

1. The wars that I've seen since i was Born where most of them have started for Religious Reason's and more specifically Hatred towards Religions other than the ones they believe in..  I Hate that to the core and just refuse to be a part of religion with that around (Please don't try to tell me otherwise on this i understand your Opinion but im not going to change mine.. its just what i've seen my entire life and its how i feel)

2. after reading the Christian Bible.. i found a Lot of stuff i Disagree with.. stuff that i just don't find believable i wont go into detail as my views on some stuff in it will Surely offend most christian's which most of my family is of the Christian Religion.. ..also Catholic my grandfather was a son of an Irish Immigrant they were heavily Catholic..

so as i said i Respect Peoples Religions and Belief's... however i Don't respect the Religion itself my Personal Opinion i think the World would be a better place without it..

HAVE A QUESTION OR A REQUEST? MESSAGE ME I'M HAPPY TO HELP

I personally am an Atheist, mainly because the greed that some Churches have about their members. I understand that Churches need to raise money, but the fact that some say if you don't pay, you are going to Hell. I just find that wrong. I also get irritated by people are almost forcing Religion upon others. I understand that it is a Christian's duty to spread Christianity to all of the world's peoples, but when they become hostile towards you because you choose not to believe what they do, I just think that's ridiculous. Also, the copious wars that have been fought over religion; the Crusades, the many conflicts in the Middle East, hell even the Holocaust! I personally think that there are better things to do in the world than fight over who's God is right/real and who's isn't. Judaism, Catholicism, and Islam all worship the same God basically (from what I have learned), and the wars that they fought against each other over the religion just seems idiotic to me. I also love science, and I guess there isn't really any solid scientific evidence proving, or disproving for that matter, whether a God does or does not exist. I don't really believe there is a person who sits atop a throne and watches the world go by.

With that said, I, in no way, will disrespect someone for their religion, or lack thereof. What you choose to believe in or not believe in, is your choice and I can respect your choice, as well as you, as long as I get the same respect in return. But if someone does anything disrespectful to me, my family, or friends, over religion, I will lose all respect for you because of it.

Sorry if I have offended anyone, it was not my intention to do so. I only wanted to express my views and beliefs on it.

I was raised Christian but, since i turned out to be gay that kinda changes my perspective on religion. I'm not religious anymore i dont go to church and all that but i wouldnt consider my self atheist, maybe there is a higher power maybe not who knows??

I also think that some people turn to religion to give their life some kind of meaning because if there is no afterlife what is our purpose?????

I also think people put too much weight into the bible. You cant prove or disprove what is in the bible so its not fact and people should realize that. Its just a collection of passed on stories that may or may not be true.

And lastly religion has just caused way too much conflict in this world  and i wish their was no religion honestly because we would have one less thing to kill each other over. I mean does it really matter if i dont believe in your god or higherpower and dont go to church every sunday or whatever day you worship???

No it doesn't because you worshiping a higher power  has no effect on me and me not worshiping or believing has no effect on you.

The only issue i have with religion is when people force their beliefs onto others by use of force or violence or demean someone because they don't agree with you.

There is one thing we know and can prove and that's we are all human and on this planet together and we should focus on the present and not the afterlife because we all could be wrong........

Even a world without religion would be a world of chaos. It's human nature, we are violent beings. No other earthly creatures have caused more violence and suffering as humans have. We're not only hurting ourselves, but everything else. If this world comes to an end, I'm sure it would be because we ended ourselves, and brought everything else down with us. So the argument of "More peace without religion" in my opinion, isn't a very strong one.

Like I said to Steele1925, people that force their religion on others, are not following their religion correctly. This is especially true when it comes to Christianity. In our belief, God created man with the ability to either believe in Christ, or refuse him. Jesus said not to cast your pearls among the swine. Translating that into today's English, this means that we should not waste our time spreading the gospel or helpful advice to those who refuse it, mock it, and hate it.

Well again, I have no problem with the Bible or those who follow the teachings of Christ. I have a problem with those who use it as proof, that's all. Who knows, maybe it is true, but until we know for sure I will not be corrected by it, nor will I be corrected by Atheists or followers of anything else. I won't allow myself to correct others in their beliefs either. The simple answer is we just don't know yet, so instead of arguing about our ideas I would really like folks to just share their ideas. I'm always willing to listen and as a former Christian myself I have read the Bible in it's entirety. I just happen to not be a believer in it. Doesn't mean I have any bad feelings toward those who still do. I have friends who are Christian, Atheist, Luciferian, Agnostic and one who is like me. Everyone's opinions are heard by me, and studied. Once more, no hatred

I agree with you, don't get me wrong at all. At the end of the day, nobody has died and come back to life to tell the story, with the exception of religious figures centuries ago. Christians that walk the Earth saying that non-believers will go to hell, are actually not following what our religion says to do. We're supposed to walk the Earth and do good for people, and educate people of Christ when they ask. We aren't supposed to walk around and force Christianity on others, especially if they don't accept what we're saying. We're supposed to explain our religion, then it's their choice on whether or not to follow it. Prolonging the situation is considered a 'sin' in the eyes of our God.

I am a convinced and fundamentalist ancient aliens believer.

What does that mean?

"I'm a marked man, so I'm getting out of here"

I am somewhat atheist. I am convinced in the "Big Bang Theory" which is a super massive ball, BUT who created that super massive ball? Like Stephen Hawking seemed to accept the role of "god" in the creation of universe.

The latest theories about the Big Bang would be that the Big Bang we are mentioning isn't actually the first, but the latest of a series. It would be a perpetual cycle, where the universe would expand, always further, until it would reach its limit and shrink on itself, all the matter in a single tiny particle, only to explode again and re-expand. That's the simple version, but it's an interesting theory.

Goddamn that sounds like a fun game. I mean, after each re-expansion, a new stage comes into play- lets see how fast you can re-evolve your civilization and solve the puzzle of big-bang theory before it shrinks again and bam! Sorry, try again. Got tokens?

I don't necessarily believe in a god, but I do believe in fate, as in everyone pretty much has a set path in life that is meant to teach you lessons, as well as "that everything happens for a reason" mentality. pretty much where you are now, and where you will end up in the future, is exactly where you're supposed to be, so just live life and be happy with whatever happens, because who knows.... it could get better... or it could be worse..

I never stated that abolishing religion would finally give us "world peace" of course there is still going to be conflicts and violence because that is human nature. I'm merely stating that we would have one less global conflict to worry about and i consider it a very valid argument.

And i know that not every religious person is extreme and goes out trying to push their beliefs onto the masses but as the saying goes " the minority ruins it for the majority."

I understand your view. However, "the minority ruins it for the majority" is merely an opinion. If people would look past the actions of the minority and look towards the actions of the majority, I'm sure that the world would be a better place.

I totally agree, our society tends to only focus on the negative and ignore all the positive things going on in the world.

I myself am a strong Christian. I believe in Jesus and that he was and still is my LORD and savior. I believe in the Bible and every single part of it is historically, factually, and spiritually correct. And I believe that Jesus loves you no matter what, even if you are from a different religion, or you choose to reject HIM. A few months back I wasn't that strong of a Christian, but then I found this song and started breaking down crying of joy because I realized for the first time that Jesus DIED for us because we committed sins(song).
