Are You Religious, Or Non-Religious?

I am an atheist and that won't change untill there is scientific proof for a god

This is where most of the disagreements and debating begins. This is where people into religion say that there's already plenty of proof for a God. The only problem with God proving himself, is that if he does come down to Earth and make it obvious, then everybody's a Christian because of fear and evidence. Oh we see a God now, so let's believe in him. According to my religion, that's not how it's supposed to work.

  • I'm an agnostic. Whilst there's a lot of scientific evidence/theories about everything which I mostly believe, I'm not going to outright deny the possibility. It's a big universe.

I'm agnostic leaning more toward atheist, but I don't have all the answers and think there's at least the possibility there could be a god out there.

My reasoning is this, through various events in my life I have found it hard to believe that God, I was brought up Catholic, would allow these things to happen to good people. As I got older and continued to take a hard look at the world I live in I find it unlikely God exists. So I suppose I can sum it up with a good helping of cynicism from Saving Private Ryan when Tom Hanks says something to the effect of "I took a good hard look around and realized God left this place a long time ago." I also prefer the thinking behind scientific theories and the like as opposed to it was "God's will" or something to that effect.

However, I have absolutely nothing against religious people and completely respect their decision to be religious. It's even better when the religious people can respect my point of view.

I am a Christian. The only time I get religious is when people come to me and try to shove their religious beliefs in my face telling me mine is wrong and theirs is right.

Now I'm not saying mine is correct because no one knows what is correct. But I believe that Christianity is correct because that is how I was born, raised, and taught.

So if anyone tries to reply to me trying to argue about what I believe in, I will ignore you, since I would respect your beliefs also.

I don't really know what I am...I believe that there is something that is "watching over" us. But I also think about how big the universe is, and think that other societies else where (Yes I think there are other intelligent life out there besides us) believe in other things...so, yeah, don't know.

I am an atheist and that won't change untill there is scientific proof for a god

Considering that my belief says that God is "supernatural", there will never be scientific proof of a God because it is beyond human comprehension.

I am a Catholic, by the way.

I'm agnostic, despite being raised Episcopalian.

Most parts of the bible are well over a thousand years old, thus I consider the amount of truth in it to be hazy. English was not the first language it was written in, nor was it likely it was the first language for it to be translated to, thus some parts of it may have been lost in translation. Adding onto all of that, back around the Son's era, there were different values - science was hardly around near the start of the Common Era.

Whether or not there is a Higher Power at play, I do not know, nor is it for me to know.

I am an atheist. However I do believe that religion teaches us values that we all can learn from to better ourselves. I just don't believe that a god can exist in a world full of pain and suffering.

Catholic and here's an article that I found:

 http://www.everystudent.com/features/isthere.html

All the points approached in this article actually have scientific explanations, so I'm not really convinced by the veracity of those arguments. This article looks more like a propaganda than anything else. I remember reading similar stuff from books from Jeovah witnesses actually.

EDIT: I mean, an article starting by "Here are six straightforward reasons to believe that God is really there" and then having amongst those 6 arguments the point "We know God exists because he pursues us, he's constantly initiating and seeking for us to come to him", really? How is that a reason for the author? And what kind of hyper narcissistic God it would be to try and get attention from everyone?

I believe in God, yet follow no religion. I realize there is absolutely no proof of a God, and therefore I never claim to have it, and never state it to be fact. However I've always said this, if the Bible turns out to be true, then I'm a Luciferian. I'm a man of knowledge. I don't believe in knowledge for only a select few. So when I say "God", I mean whoever is good, forgiving, loving, caring, honorable, not an asshole, intelligent, not asking me to bow down to him/her/it etc. I'm sure there's an understanding between myself and what I believe to be God.

But I'm kind to those that don't push their beliefs on other people. Be what you wish, as long as you don't shove it down my throat. I've had atheists say "You're retarded, do you believe in unicorns?" I get the argument, but I feel if someone wants to believe in unicorns I have no problem with it as long as they're not shoving their beliefs down my throat.

Then I've had Christians attempt to correct me when I theorize about something possibly supernatural. They'll say "Well you're wrong because the Bible says" and that's where I stop them immediately. A book is not proof, you can theorize with it and I don't mind, but don't ever correct me with a book that holds no water.

These are my standpoints, I love every belief, and understand all of your points. Just remember that none of us have any real proof yet.

The reason that people are probably referring to the bible, is because the Bible is a conglomerate of first person accounts during the time that Jesus Christ was on Earth. The people in the Bible, talk about their experiences with Jesus and how Jesus made their lives better, and helped them through their struggles. This is why a lot of Christians refer to the Bible as a defense against religious arguments. Now whether or not you believe in what you're reading, is where the difference in religion comes into play.

Even though I dont show my religion much (or even part take in it) I'm Catholic

if your replying to me Please @0taku or Quote me so I get a notification

I was raised Christian but, since i turned out to be gay that kinda changes my perspective on religion. I'm not religious anymore i dont go to church and all that but i wouldnt consider my self atheist, maybe there is a higher power maybe not who knows??

I also think that some people turn to religion to give their life some kind of meaning because if there is no afterlife what is our purpose?????

I also think people put too much weight into the bible. You cant prove or disprove what is in the bible so its not fact and people should realize that. Its just a collection of passed on stories that may or may not be true.

And lastly religion has just caused way too much conflict in this world  and i wish their was no religion honestly because we would have one less thing to kill each other over. I mean does it really matter if i dont believe in your god or higherpower and dont go to church every sunday or whatever day you worship???

No it doesn't because you worshiping a higher power  has no effect on me and me not worshiping or believing has no effect on you.

The only issue i have with religion is when people force their beliefs onto others by use of force or violence or demean someone because they don't agree with you.

There is one thing we know and can prove and that's we are all human and on this planet together and we should focus on the present and not the afterlife because we all could be wrong........

I'm Christian, but I don't practice the religion, nor do I even a hoots ass about it, invisible people doesn't exist.
