Troy reacted to Sonny236 in Why do people diss IV since V

Very true. It just seems like a lot of people started disliking GTAIV once GTAV came out, and not even in comparison but just straight up thinking GTAIV was never good. There would be no LSPDFR without LCPDFR. I'm gonna find it hard to get used to GTAV's new mechanics along with LSPDFR.
It's too bad IV was so bad for modding, but even in its state people found a way to make it really enjoyable with the tons of mods, and still be stable enough to play. I'm sure the same thing will happen so on and so forth though, when GTA VI comes out and we'll be comparing all the bad things GTAV had to GTAVI. I'm sure IV will be long forgotten by then. All good things must come to an end, sadly.

    ^ This.

Up until now, people were all "make hay and celebrate" the mods we have for IV (a very good exapmle beng LCPDFR 1.0). Now that V's out, even the ones who used to appreciate IV and its mods are despising it vocally. Its in human nature. Our brain keeps comparing everything, all the time. And thats what R* and other AAA game dev companies capitalize on. People don't seem to understand IV's role in R*'s development of V. They just back V up and give it a high five, without realizing that there was a LOT, that R* learned from IV's reception and user feedbacks. Simply put, there would be no V without IV, as there would be no IV without SA, and so on.

The art of stating the obvious. Calm down, guys. You realize its gonna take much more than just that, right? First off, the stock cars aren't UV'ed the way you'd want them to, just like IV and SA's stock cars. The other thing is, even if you found the car files, which were obviously there the whole time, we don't have:
    1) a program like Zmodeler to open/modify/replace them and,
    2) we don't even know what the settings (mesh, dummies, lights and textures) do these new cars use in accordance with the new and modified RAGE engine that V uses.
to kick off car modding yet.

I highly suspect anyone would give it out. If they had I wouldn't be here now, would I? It would be another story if someone releases one unlocked. Come to think of it, almost all US police vehicles are available out there unlocked. So ideally this should've been too.

I've been trying for a month to get an unlocked model but seems like its being passed around to only those who have "friends in high places" and are straight up GADs. Any attempt to the original converters OR these GADs is futile because they never revert back (sad to see most modders are way in over their heads these days...)

My only suggestion- if you did any succession saves on the engine, take a lower-poly/lower-quality one out and slap it on the police version. Most coppers 'round 'ere don't care much about details like those, rather filesizes.

Don't worry, I know what you mean. Putting a Liberty on a Crown Vic and call it a car mod is ridiculous.

@WarStrikeWolf: Improve your skills before you release a car. Never ever release the first car you've worked with. Believe me. My first car mod was rubbish! If you need my help sometimes feel free to pm me.

Please don't call yourself a modeler if you're just going to take publicly available parts and throw them together on a model, its insulting to the actual modelers. A modeler is the person that actually makes those models you're using from scratch. In your case, you've done nothing besides import a few unlocked models without any textures whatsoever and you haven't even arranged the hierarchy properly. Persons who do and release such work are labelled by some in the community as a GAD(a person who just glues and distributes poorly assembled models), its not a term you want to stick.

You're learning and I respect that, I was there once too. However, if you're looking for decent feedback, the least you could do would be to get the model into the game(in a working state) and then start a thread with a few ingame pictures of what you've done or what you're trying to achieve. I should also make mention that many people don't understand the concept of using the forums and in turn they upload these models to the downloads database expecting feedback, an act that results in more hate rather than criticism nowadays as the downloads database has been plagued by such content over the past few years.

I'd recommend you take a look at the tutorials pertaining to the assembly of mods before you continue, doing so ought to be to your own benefit. Unless there's a demand for what you're making, I'd also suggest you keep the models that you've assembled whilst in the process of learning to yourself and rather use them for feedback in order to improve your skills.

Whilst many people aren't accepting of blunt responses and see them negatively, I'd rather be honest about what you've produced rather than praising it and giving you a false idea of success and perfection.

Modders take inspirations from real life. R* takes inspirations from real life. Doesn't mean R* takes inspiration from modders. The examples that you gave:

Its true Caine modified an Esperanto into  a police version. But then again, he modified a ton of other stock vehicles like Dilettante, Speedo, Landstalker, etc. Its not ELS, my friend. Its just how the newer LED bars look like in the current era. GTA IV was made before 2008 and LEDs had only started to take over the world then. ELS is not one of a kind. Its inspired by real-world LEDs. Like I said, R*'s inspiration too was real-world (LEDs), and not a GTA IV mod. That truck mod is no rocket science and anyone can imagine such a truck. I'm not completely ruling out inspirations from the modding community, but its highly unlikely.

Its always so sad to see two good people you know getting to know each other for the first time getting off to a wrong start. Emad, what you mean to the civilian modding community is what Kevin means to the law enforcement modding community (actually even more). He's not a bad guy; he's just blunt with his opinions (and sometimes draws a lot of flak for that too). All he was suggesting was that you should invest some more time (and polys) into that model of yours. It looks pretty boxy even by my standards. Why don't you go ahead and put a smooth on it with a free hand, work some more on preserving the details you lost with the smoothing, reshape the car accordingly and use GTA4's stock cars for quality reference while you're at it. Its constructive criticism and I'm sure you don't ever mind that.

I usually don't post here, but when two good modders are coming across as bad guys to each other, I can't help but interfere...

EFLC is a lot stabler than GTA IV indeed and I've numerous times finished its storyline with a 250+ MB vehicles.img, fully customized weapons.img, HD city textures and a heavy ENB. Add to that the ped mods, sound mods, script mods and other miscellaneous mods.

My GTA IV, on the other hand, freezes on the second mission with a vehicles.img containing only modded police vehicles. So yeah, GTA IV is pretty much a bad port for sure.

Also, God knows I have rebuilt my .imgs everytime I change a vehicle/weapon. Maybe even more. But the problem with IV still persists. I never got missing textures (maybe on some specific missions for a limited period of time) but most of the time it was just freeze and/or crash.

Human being or not, its living. Killing is killing and there's no excuse for that. Period.
And yes, its wrong to kill bees and spiders. Had you been taught otherwise since your childhood, or there were laws protecting the right to life of these "parasites" you won't be here using them as an example. Trust me.
Its just that its not possible to make and enforce laws to ensure the right to life's safety of every damn living thing out there. Its a perilous mistake if you think that they deserve anything less than you as far as the right to life is concerned.

Those are exceptional cases, you're talking about. I can speak for everyone else you quoted along with me, that we didn't speak what we spoke in that context.
Also, probably you have never met a rape-victim. Most I've met, would rather keep the baby. A mother's instinct, in most cases, is more overwhelming than "seeing the rapist's face in your own child".

    Lastly,

Likewise. Besides, "respecting someone's life" is not enough to justify "killing a life". How can you even compare those two? Like I said, killing is killing. Putting on the "mah life mah rulez" mask ain't gonna help.
