Seems its coming to PC

Featured Replies

Well yeah, what are they supposed to do, rewrite the whole game?

It may surprise you,,  but there are some companies that care and will make the best game possible for the platfrom.

Does it make sense financially,  it could but there is a lot of "what if".  And no one can foresee if a mediocre port(which will cost less to produce) can bring in the sales numbers.  It may sell less because a lot of people already know what to expect from a port....   Their reputation for the PC platform obviously won't go up.   A whole lot of negatives to do a "port", but maybe they don't care.

  • Hold on a second, they said "PORT"   It is a console port all over again, just like GTA IV.

@Above: Well, after R* ignored the PC players with RDR is normal people started to worry about R* doing the same move again, and even more with a title like GTA V.

Personally, though unlikely, I hope we can see the PC version by the end of this year, by christmas or so, before 2014.

Using the lack of a RDR PC version is not a wise argument.

Rockstar San Diego has developed only one PC game (Midnight Club 2 in 2003), and when they were Angel Studios they published two PC games (Midtown Madness 1 and 2 in 1999 and 2000, respectively). So a studio that's done only three PC games, and not one since 2003, shouldn't be expected to release many more, no matter the demand.

Rockstar North, however, hasn't had a game without a PC release (with a few exceptions).

Money. If they say that GTA V will be coming out on PC now, then a lot of PC gamers will wait for that. If they do not say that it's coming to PC, then a lot of people who play on PC and consoles will buy it for console when it comes, then possibly buy it again later for PC.

"Work and ideas get stolen, then you keep moving on doing your thing."

hmmm, what do you think the  graphic card and CPU requirements be?

I would bet about the same specs, roughly.  I7 with 8gigs of RAM would be my guess, 1-gig minimum vid card (maybe 2gigs, who knows).  It's basically the same engine, but a much larger map and a whole hell of a lot more to do.

Hopefully they do a decent port so it utilizes more of the horsepower today's computers offer, unlike the current GTAIV ports.  EFLC is a much better performing game, probably due to a better optimized port, just an assumption on my part.

Even if GTA V is coming to PC, imagine how much money you'd need to spend to get a great computer to run it. You'd need a very high-powered computer to even get the map to load.

If consoles can run the game, then PC's can run it better. Ofc, if it's well optimized port. So you don't need very high-end PC.

The consoles are 7 years old. Any PC younger then 5 with a dedicated graphics card about the same age could run it fine if the port is handled properly.

What would the alternative be to porting? I guarantee you that rewriting the whole game for PC would be worse. It would take YEARS to do if you do it from scratch (not to mention doubling the price tag for development, which runs into hundreds of millions of dollars), and, realistically, they wouldn't spend nearly as much effort.

All a port is is turning code for one platform into code for another platform. That happens with every big-budget multi-platform game.

Tough topic to crack.   When "porting" is talked about, it doesn't have a black and white definition for everyone. Admittedly it is slanted a little more to the negative in my post.

A lot of console games are made on development boxes(aka PCs) and coded,  built around the console and how it utilizes its systems.  It is different,  but not completely foreign.   I wouldn't expect a complete 100% rewrite and they shouldn't have to do that.   Art and audio assets are already there.

In the end for me it comes down to intention.   They either plan to patch it/duct tape the ported console version enough so it works "okay".   Or they will build around what is core and usable.  Adding new features or taking advantage of what is possible on PC but not on the console.

I guess it is pretty much buying on principle.  There's no way i think they would care if they lose a sale.  And i'm sure a lot of people here won't either,  there is no reason to because it is my choice.   The ball is entirely in Rockstar's court of course,   they will show us how much they care about PC gamers and you'll either take it or walk away.

This needs fact checking maybe,   i vaguely remember reading that GTA IV was not completely in house.   An outside Dev Studio worked on a lot of the PC version.   But Rockstar still put the rubber stamp on and it meant "good enough".   Not so great words to live by...

oh well. good :) i hope they manage to port the game over without breaking stuff

This could also mean Midnight Club 3 will be coming to PC - which I really hope, loved the customization and all of it on the PS2/3

Not if it's R* San Diego developed, it's been said several times they don't release stuff for the PC since MC2 (which was a good game by the way). As much as I want MC3/MCLA to come to PC, it'd need a sea change for that to happen and I just can't see it happening.

IV was ported by......R* Canada, either Toronto or Vancouver....so it was in house. Doesn't excuse the fact that it was an awful port however

IV was made by Rockstar North and then ported by one of the companies you mentioned.

So its baffling to see why R* San Diego refused to send the game to another sub-company to port considering North has repeatedly done

Processor: Intel i5-6600 @ 3.30GHz

GPU: MSI ARMOR GeForce GTX 1080 OC

Ram: 16GB Skylake

Management said so I guess. Same management that then last year did away with R* in Canada. Way to go guys. However with them gone it does make me wonder who (if?) will be handling a PC port. I wouldn't read into the whole pre order for PC yet, given how secretive R* is

That's the only reason I can think of. I'm sure if given the chance they'd want their games on as many platforms as possible

That's the silliest thing I've ever heard.

You will eventually see it during 2014.

Edit: Rockstar does have reasons for not saying "We are going to release it for the PC as well" because they know that they are going to get some of the PC players to their consoles and purchase the game there and even purchase it later on for their PC which they do earn something from.

Some of the people that actually pays money for the game to play on their console, would just download it and play it for free if it was announced and released for the PC in a small amount of time.

Edit 2: Didn't read the posts before mine, as there were people with more or less the same comment.
