As of an hour ago, Target Australia has banned Grand Theft Auto V from being sold in their stores. Why? because a petition was created because of violence against women. 

 

I should add what they have said in the petition is complete bogus and no doubt made up of their thoughts as most of the content that they say can happen.. can't happen.

It doesn't really suprise me nor affects me.. because well nobody buys games at Target anyway since they're always over expensive, most people buy games from K-Mart, Big W or EB Games.

Actually no, there isn't.. the only time the word man or men were involved in the petition is when they said about men being violent towards women. Even from target, all they said was about violence against WOMEN.. nothing about men.

 

The thing that annoyed me, was the people saying about it's promoting violence to younger children, but there is a pretty big logo saying R18 on the cover of the game. Honestly, if your child plays videogames then grows up to be a killer or woman beater.. then blame your parenting not the game they played.

That's what I'm saying, nobody gets pissed when men are the target of violence, but as soon as women are the target the shit hits the fan. It's one of those ridiculous double standards deals. 

 

I buy all my games from JB Hi Fi anyway so this doesn't affect me but it's still stupid.

Yup, the people who create these petitions haven't sat down and played GTA 5, they have read it on the internet. If they sat down and played the story then they'll realise it's not that bad. Except for Trevor even I got a bit sick watching him at times.

 

But if they actually look, GTA 5 is a kids show compared to some of the other games out there, like Outlast and Dead Island (both First Person, both contain violence). And honestly, there is other things to do in GTA than be violent, some side missions are less violent.. like the racing, parachuting etc. then you can create fun challenges like what Nerd³ does, or you can do what everyone on this community does.. Transform your game into a police simulator.

 

But no, nobody ever thinks about that.. they always jump to the violent part, which isn't that big of a part in GTA

 

and i agree, i get all my games from either EB Games, or Steam.. so it's no great loss or affects me at all.

First, feminizm and double standards...

 

Second, there is a reason PEGI and other rating systems were made. For classifying the game and its buyers to prevent harm. It is pointless if someone says "My kid is being affected by GTA. This has to be banned." since these rating systems are made to point out its content. If you, as a parent, let your kid play GTA then you are the one to blame for improper parenting, not Rockstar for publishing it since it is meant for people aged at or over 18.

So then they don't care about the torture mission where you mercilessly beat and torture a guy for fun pretty much? There was also violence against women in GTA IV...

This is so true, if parents don't want their kids to play violent games they shouldn't buy it for them. Simple as. Why not buy them a Spiderman game so they can grow up thinking a guy in a tight costume will come and save them when they are in trouble.

Most people (certainly along with most women and feminists) will understand that the Grand Theft Auto series is a satire of pop culture.

I just despise double standards with an absolute passion. Forget violence against women, men, or children. No one cares about the violence to people in general. In my opinion if you were ever going to boycott something or ban something do it for general human violence, not because one race, or sex is offended. 

 

Heck I dont care about the violence, I know its not something that would influence me to go out and be a mass murderer. Why arent these people boycotting movies, and TV shows that have dead women in them? Stuff like this, grinds my gears.

This is stupid. Don't they know that is not why the game is made to do? Yes you can kill women, but you can kill men too in the game. Has people never seen a GTA game before? Some feminists are good, but the ones who don't know what they are saying are the ones who make such idiotic ideas. Even though I am in the US, I feel like calling Target to realize that the game is not worth banning.
