Sniper296 reacted to Forsteic in Slow DownloadAnyone else have same problem? I want to download LSPDFR but it going to take me 3hours with a 41mb file. What is the problem?

Sniper296 reacted to LMS in VOTE FOR OFFICIAL LSPDFR DISCORDI could not think of a worse way to manage mod updates and downloads than a Discord. It is ultimately a short-lived chat and everything gets lost. The search is terrible. It creates a "silo" similar to Facebook and others where it cannot be indexed via search engines, holding all your data hostage. It cannot be crawled, no one can find anything inside it without being part of it (and even then you cannot find anything due to terrible search). It's almost like an antithesis to the idea of the internet or any community.
Â
Would it make sense to supplement an existing community? Perhaps. But keep in mind that the vast majority of users will go there for support, thinking they have this one unique problem no one else has ever had and which is totally a problem with mod X. I understand that people like the fast access, but that is usually at the expense of spam and bugging others, answers the same two questions every five minutes. You are just shifting the burden of research (i.e. a google search for your problem) by posting it in a chat room waiting for someone else to google it for you or answer it. We have tinkered with it for our RDR community and struck a fair balance, I believe. However, our GTA V community is a lot bigger and as already been pointed out would require a ton more moderation work, especially due to how fast paced Discord is. So for the time being, we do not have any immediate plans to create an official public Discord server.

Sniper296 reacted to PNWParksFan in LSPDFR 0.4.8 - Now available! That doesn't address whatsoever the question of why they won't load if you're on a newer version of LSPDFR than they were built against - especially a newer minor version such as 0.4.7 -> 0.4.8. It would be trivially easy to have the version checker display a warning that the version hasn't been tested and isn't guaranteed to work, but still allow the mod to load with a warning. Any excuses about it generating excessive support requests are clearly misguided when you look at the sheer volume of complaints and support requests generated by the version lock itself. I offered to Bejoljo an example of how I check versions of dependencies for my mods to provide warnings without locking people out, and he thanked me by banning me from his discord server for the audacity to suggest a simple solution to his self-imposed issue.Â

Sniper296 reacted to Rich in LSPDFR 0.4.8 - Now available!Speaking to plugins which disable themselves due to version checking, you cannot blame LSPDFR for that. You have provided no useful information about the problems you (or anyone else) are experiencing. How do you expect the issues to be fixed if you don't specify what they are?
Â
This is the exact attitude that makes me want to stop creating for the community.

Sniper296 reacted to UnknownBastion in LSPDFR 0.4.8 - Now available!I agree. I've said this before and I will say it again, you can't blame LSPDFR for the decisions of Third Party Creators! It's such a shame that some people can't see that.

Sniper296 reacted to Will in LSPDFR 0.4.8 - Now available! This never happened. No one on the team ever removed his mods, he left by his own will. It is true that we were working on some new plugin policies to further protect the user base, but those have not yet come to fruition.Â
Â
If I remember correctly, he left after we decided not to remove a few negative reviews that were not in violation of our Guidelines. Whether that was related or not, only he would know.Â

Sniper296 reacted toDeactivated Memberin LSPDFR Mod Showcase Episode 1"Content team? But where is all the content?"Â you ask.
Â
Well here it is:
Â
It has been a while, but today we are (again) introducing the first episode of the LSPDFR Official Mod Showcase. The Mod Showcase is an opportunity for members of the Content Team to showcase the latest and most popular mods on a regular basis. It also gives us a chance to highlight some mods that we believe deserve more attention. Within our first showcase we take a look at five different vehicle modifications inside and out and give them a little test.
Â
What is it?
The Mod Showcase is exactly what it says, a showcase of mods on a regular basis. Within the showcase, we will take a journey through a few selected mods. For vehicles we will look at their lighting patterns, skins and textures . We may take them for a spin to test their handling and how they work at different speeds. For scripts, we may test out a new callout, whilst also showcasing a vehicle, and potentially even throw in a siren pack too!
This Mod Showcase is a reboot of an exciting idea that we want the community to get behind. We would like everyone’s feedback, so we can shape and mould it into the best it can be. Additionally, in the future we hope to create further content for everyone to enjoy and participate in.
Â
Who is it?
This series will be created and presented by @Shockie and @Gan Ceann, taking turns to present the video. We have both been part of this community since early 2012, and have a huge passion for the site and the community. Our routes start way back with LCPDFR and Fort Carson Roleplay (if you know, you know), and we have kept in touch with the community ever since. Coincidentally, we also both have a passion for content creation and enjoy working together to make fun projects for everyone to enjoy. This project has already taught us a lot about video creation, and we look to expand on that, as well as our commentary and showcasing ability. It is our first video, so we would really appreciate any constructive feedback.
Â
Why?
We are starting this series to show off what the community is creating and sharing. There are a lot of high-quality mods and we would like to act as a new channel to not only support the creators but also provide the community with an overview of what is out there. We also hope that with your feedback, we can look to explore future ideas and features.
Â
Where can I see it? (Links at the bottom of the page)
The series will be uploaded to the official G17 YouTube channel (yes, there is one), and will also be viewable in a portal on the website, where there will be easy access to the mods presented in the video. The Mod Showcase page will have direct links to the mods shown within the video, and also the times they are showcased. Like the look of a mod? Click on the link, and it can be downloaded in seconds. Want to check out a specific mod? Look at the timestamp and you will be seeing our showcase in seconds. Mods that have been highlighted in one of our showcases will also have a link back to the video on their respective page.
Â
All in all, we hope you enjoy the showcase and give us feedback so we can make this project the best it can be!

Sniper296 got a reaction from theceo95 in Still waiting...I didn't read all this topic, because I don't like flushing my time down the toilet. But I just have to comment on the expectations of users that this site should pursue your content on other sites, on other servers, in other jurisdictions.
Â
Here is a bullet point of GitHub's DMCA procedure:
Â
If your content is stolen, you, your lawyer or some other designated person is responsible for making a DMCA claim against the site or hosting provider hosting it. Not me, not Sam Houser, not your great aunt's dog. YOU!
Â
Just as I have filed DMCA requests for my mods. I didn't demand someone else who's hosting my mods do it for me.
Â
Just as has probably been done when LCPDFR or LSPDFR are hosted elsewhere without permission or decompiled.
Â
It's unlikely that most vehicle mods even are valid copyright claims anyway. Surely EA, Ubi or whoever should be making that claim against a vehicle taken from their game. Or Ford, Dodge or whatever company owns them trademarks. Or the emergency department or company who's logos are being used.
Â
And if locking mods is no longer effective, maybe complain to Oleg that your overpriced ZMod subscription doesn't feel worth it any more. But I'm sure he'll tell you that it is impossible for any file to be protected against reverse engineering, decryption, ripping, decompiling, etc. without preventing users from obtaining that file in the first place.
