Personally, although I think Halal is unethical, I'm a fan of multiculturalism. I'm all for adding Halal as an option.

This action however, isn't multiculturalism, it's removing options for everyone else but the minority they are appeasing to.

Do you see these places offering Kosher only options for the British Jewish population?

If it's of a small minority then why? If they're pissed, then just go to their own market, like you said the kosher places. Thats why they have them.

Welcome to England, where we throw all of our normalities out the window for the minorities that (well within their rights I should add) move over to here.

I actually disagree that subway should be doing this, you can't replace something to suit the minority. In addition to, great, but replace? No.

 

I'm happy for multi-culturalism. But the way it is acted upon in this country is just, well it's stupid.

That's just my opinion though.

That is really quite unnecessary. More options for the minority are always welcome but removing them for others is just plain wrong.

I respect all people but i think halal meat is basically animal abuse, we have laws on the slaughter of animals yet they go out of the window when it comes to a minority. It's ridiculous.

Isn't it possible to file a discrimination petition to a local DA or whoever oversees all that? This is purely a discrimination, in my opinion

This is the real crime here.

 

The fact that religion is mentioned in law in the 21st century disturbs me.  In a modern, civilised society, there should not be exemptions from any law on religious grounds 

 

I don't have a problem with some Subway stores choosing to change their menus.  As far as I know that decision will be made by the individual store as they are franchises and if that's what they think is best for their business then so be it.  Its worth noting that there are 2000+ subway stores in the UK, so this is actually quite a small minority which are changing their menus.  Indeed, none of the stores in Edinburgh or Stirling, places near me, are 'Halal Stores' according to Subway's website, and only one in Glasgow is, so I don't think there's any problem there.

I've just finished reading the linked articles and from what I have read I can see some problems with this.

Firstly and probably the most important issue raised by this is the use of religion to manipulate. What I mean by this is the fact that minority has used their religion as a reason to get something done. Now i'm not saying that Halal meat shouldn't be available, it should be as everyone should be able to walk in to a business that sells food and know that no matter their personal or religious beliefs should be able to purchase meat that doesn't go against their beliefs. However to use it as a way to get something completely changed to suit them is just wrong. And some people believe that Halal is less humane than the standard methods for the slaughter of animals in the UK.

 

What i'm trying to say is that just because you believe something doesn't mean to say that others should have to do or eat the same as you if they don't believe the same which is what this sounds like to me. So basically if you believe Halal is the best way for meat to be prepared that doesn't mean everyone else should have to eat Halal.

 

 

 

Looking on my Facebook and Twitter feeds this evening I am seeing more posts relating to this shameful move by subway than those relating to the SQA exams taking place at this time. 

 

I do feel quite uneasy about this move as I can foresee it causing further racial and sectarian tension between communities. 

 

However, it is a decision that has been made by Subway in the interest of their product sales.

I don't agree with this. I love Subway and what get from there has meat, I can't imagine it happening here. At least it's only in certain restaurants......

I don't know much of anything about the United Kingdom, but this is a pretty dumb situation altogether. Why remove options for others, just to accommodate for the very minority of a particular people? It's irritating, as this same thing is happening in the United States. Accommodations for the immigrants (We can go on all day about who the REAL immigrants in the United States are, but you get what I mean) and the normal American citizens are expected to meet those accommodations. A quick example of this is language, Spanish. American citizens are expected to learn to speak Spanish due to mass immigration from below us, but they aren't expected to learn English.

Yes that is correct. There's no point in buying items of food for your stores if you are not going to sell it. That's just wasting money.

A good Muslims duty is to convert or kill any non-believers.  We get the same goofy PC crap here in the US too.

Yeah, like drdetroit, the title made me think you meant "subway" as in "underground rapid transit system", not "Subway" as in "large sandwich chain". I have no issues with the latter doing this - they do what makes them the most money, and it's probably safe to say that if they remove ham and bacon from a store, the store probably wasn't selling much of it anyway.

Don't bring your ways over here and expect us to change ours to suit you or become fond of you. Frankly, I'm sick of foreigners and I'm sick of England. Unfortunately there are some crazy strict people and unfortunately there is alot in the uk same as there are bad people from other religions as well but this guy who killed a police officer is not following islam there is nothing in islam that says kill non believers and take there land, that who killed a brave police officer waiting to go to his innocent family is a sick person! i hope the officer rests in peace, all im saying is some people misunderstand islam and think its to kill and bomb but jihad is not to bomb a school or whatever it may be jihad is to go to school study and effect your community in a good way. I hope i tought you something about islam anyways sorry for the late reply.

I agree with you 100% and any correct muslim would based on there religion and prophet teachings but whatever religion,color or nationality you are. And I really feel bad for London and what is happening to you by corrupt muslims.
