We also share jurisdiction with all of Canada of course, but we can also respond to incidents in surrounding cities in Metropolitan Vancouver which includes: Burnaby, Vancouver, Coquitlam, Port Moody, Surrey, Langley, Delta, Abbotsford, Richmond, West Vancouver, and North Vancouver. (Might be more towns or cities, can't remember if I am missing any...)

Each city is either contracted with the RCMP or has their own municipal police agency. Vancouver, West Vancouver, Delta, Port Moody, Abbotsford all have municipal police services, while the rest here have RCMP contracts. There are also many municipal police services on Vancouver Island. Google or contact me if you want to learn more!

I've done a ton of these but what the hell, here's mine.

We don't have any City or State Agencies (Beside the AFP - Australian Federal Police) so I mostly see these rolling around all of Western Australia.

MSHP - Missouri State Highway Patrol - They tend to avoid the area I live in, I have to drive out to where no people live to see one. :P

STLMPD - Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department - Never see them unless I go downtown.

St. Louis Sheriff Department - They do 0 patrols whatsoever, hence why the still use a vic from the 90s :P. They also only service the city. Since the city has been independent from the county since the 19th century.

Hazelwood Police Department - I see them whenever I leave my city :P They like to do traffic stops on the highway :(.

And Finally, The Saint Louis County Police Department, who services unincorporated departments, and sometimes sieze, or takeover operations of a different department due to them being corrupt, or the city council deciding it'd be easier to just let the county do it.

What does ANPR stand for?

Also, strange that your Sheriff department doesnt patrol.

My sheriff department patrol all unincorporated areas.

Plus, is it weird that the PD patrol the highway?

Only CHP is allowed to do traffic on highways out here

No the germans have normal cars

Actually this Photo was taken in my City. (Pic was taken 2009 at the "Vogelweh Military Complex"

They also use them in the Rammstein air Base.

They also have their own Fire Dept.

(Pic was taken at Sembach (a little Part of town))

@All: Yeah not just the Airbase,

We also have an Seperated part in our Town just for the American Population.

You can Eat,Drink ect in there. It also has an Little Mall and a Highschool

BUT to get in there you need someone in the Military in order to be allowed to go in there (in my case it's my Brother in Law)

Once upon a time it was the largest American Comminity outside the U.S xD

Only CHP is allowed to do traffic on highways out here

There are 2 general reasons why the sheriff might not patrol unincorporated areas:

* In some places (like both St. Louis County and my county), there is a county police. The sheriff handles the jail, court security, service of process, enforcing court orders, etc., while the police handle everything else (think "like a city police, but for the whole county")

* Alternatively, in places like Baltimore, MD, and St. Louis proper, the city is independent of the county. In this case, there is a city sheriff and a city police, so there *are* no unincorporated areas (sheriff still deals with the courts)

Even if highway patrol or state police have the main responsibility for working traffic, local police can generally still enforce traffic laws on the interstate in their jurisdiction. For example, a Baltimore cop who happens to be on I-95 within Baltimore city limits can absolutely pull you over for speeding. Often, department policy says "don't actively patrol highways, spend your time elsewhere", but cops still have the *authority* to pull you over (so if a cash-strapped department decides to run traffic, they are fully within their authority)

Also, doesn't California have statewide jurisdiction? I've always heard that any California police officer has full police powers anywhere in California (the only constraint is what their department lets them do).

Yeah. An officer in CA is an officer anywhere in CA.

I should have reworded my last sentence.

My local sheriff doesnt patrol Highways because I believe they are to occupied.

While crime is low around here,(generally. lots of small crime and some armed robberies at banks) they have TONS of unincorporated cities everywhere. Not to mention county forests that they respond to a lot.

CHP has it under control. I am sure they can go there, just in my 9 years of living where i do, I never have seen them on the Interstate

or highway
