OpenIV discontinued | Take Two claims game modding "illegal"

Message added by Cyan

Don't post any links to GoFundMe or Kickstarter pages here as we cannot verify where any funds would go.

OpenIV have a donation link on their website if you wish to contribute directly to them, although it is doubtful they would continue even with financial support.

Please don't upload or share versions of OpenIV - we don't have permission from the OpenIV team to host their work on our community.

  • It's an odd attitude change from Rockstar, as GTA SA and GTA 4 sales were certainty advanced by the modding community. On our social media platforms and on the forums here alone, we hear a lot of

What Rockstar and Take2 doesn't realize or care about is that most of us on this forum, and most of the people that mod GTA, only play GTA for the mods.  I previously owned GTA V on PS3.  The SOLE rea

lol GTA 5 Mods had to take down one of my mods due to it sharing default game files (The vehicles are uv map for customization so no they are not just the default files). They figured out what it was

In my opinion, once we purchase our copy of the game, we should be able to use the game how we want, and if that means modifying files, it shouldn't be made illegal. I remember reading the EULA when first purchasing the game, and it said nowhere that modifying the game was illegal. If this is how Take Two is going to be, fuck them, and most of all, fuck R* for allowing Take Two to take over the company and ruin the community of GTA V mods for us.

It says that you do not own the game (you merely get a license to use it), and that reverse engineering is prohibited.

It's sad that this has to happen. Doom has hit the modding community hard. It's only a madder of time before Script Hook V gets shut down, if it hasn't happen already.

The real question here is. What impact will this have with LCPDFR?

I believe the forced updates came in around the time people started using 3dripperdx on OpenIV to "steal" models people had locked. The forced update to avoid people using a version of OpenIV that didn't break itself when 3dripperdx was detected.

So blame that on people who lock the models they stole from other games.

Just because people use software for shady practices does not excuse a developer from creating and using shady practices of their own. Both are inherently wrong and should not be tolerated.

Even Oleg himself expressed his views about "locking" models and how retarded it is.

well then..... looks like im just gonna keep playing my Ragehook back up game and never update GTA V anymore.  Also isn't there some thing saying "if you buy a game you own the right to do what ever you want with it"?

Technically no, you don't own shit, only a license. As is with OpenIV. Both authors in this scenario are scumbags for controlling the user.

We've noticed some links to GoFund me pages - firstly we cannot confirm the validity of the accounts or the account creators intentions. At this point in time it is also best to wait from further word from the OpenIV team before considering opening a GoFund me relating to the funding legal costs towards this project.

🕵️‍♂️ Always watching, always waiting.

Guess I wasn't specific enough when I meant  "impact" it would have.

Meaning will it

force

stop

halt

close

be done with

the end of a eara

kill the site

the modding of this site?  Thus having to drive generic cars?  So to speak.

To answer the question. Of course not. But that's really what I wasn't  asking.

Only time will tell.

Whats gonna happen now? Can we use anything temporarily to mod?

OpenIV still works, just disable internet access for it and you should be fine for the future hopefully

You can update it, you'll just get the dorky message. It doesn't affect anything with the program as of now.

Just archive the program and save it somewhere. Maybe a copy of the game, too, just in case.

So what about the LSPDFR YouTubers that play this game for a living? Is recording it going to be prosecutable? Will Take-Two actually enforce this rule that modding is apparently "illegal"? I by no means live off of my LSPDFR channel, but Jeff Favignano, Bayareabuggs, Polecat, and Stevethegamer are just a few full time YouTubers that focus on the LSPDFR mod. What does this mean for us content creators?
