Ferguson Riots Resume After Two Officers Shot

Featured Replies

For those of you not residing in the United States, yes, this is still going on.

Two officers were shot in front of the Feeguson Police Department Earlier today, Thursday. One officer was shot in the face, another was shot in the shoulder. Both were taken to a hospital conscious, but Police Chief Jon Belmer said their injuries were serious. He refused to provide any additional details.

Marciay Pitchford, 20, was among the protesters outside the police department. She told The Associated Press the protest had been mostly peaceful until she heard the shots ring out.

"I saw the officer go down and the other police officers drew their guns while other officers dragged the injured officer away," Pitchford said. "All of a sudden everybody started running or dropping to the ground."

Belmar said the shots were fired from across the street from the police department.

So if you still don't understand what's going on here, people are still pissed at the shooting of Michael Brown. Footage on my local news broadcast shows officers confronting protesters in riot gear, wielding automatic lethal assault rifles and spraying protesters with a water cannon.

    Not this crap again....

  • All this protesting against the Law Enforcement being such an aggressive and racist Police Department, they finally get the place under control as investigations are launched into the Police Departmen

Honestly, if I was an officer in Ferguson, I would get the hell out of there. This s*** is not worth getting killed over(who knows what's gonna happen next time). Glad to see these officers are expected to recover though.

All this protesting against the Law Enforcement being such an aggressive and racist Police Department, they finally get the place under control as investigations are launched into the Police Department, the Police Chief resigns after two months of plea's from the community for him to resign. He resigns and the first thing they do is shoot two cops during a protest.

Some of these idiots don't care about the shooting of Michael Brown or the Racism, they use it as an excuse to go around Ferguson doing whatever they want.

🕵️‍♂️ Always watching, always waiting.

It's really bulls*** how these people are still so angry over something that happened so long ago now. I respect the officers who decide to stay to do their job, it's quite brave of them in my opinion.

bruh moment

Lets just clear up a few things:

The protests have been mostly peaceful.

The rioters aren't even from the Ferguson community

The violent actions of a few mentally unstable people do not represent the overall message of the protests.

The shooting of the police officers has been denounced by the protesters.

Because of witness reports, it doesn't look like the shooter was even a protester.

So please don't use this to belittle the importance of these protests

The protests have been mostly peaceful.

Were you asleep when the said they weren't gonna pursue charges against Officer Wilson? Or even when there were protests before that..

I understand that people have the right to protest, But why is it needed? The police are doing nothing wrong here. And if you think otherwise, Then please, Go join the protesters.

Seems like you think police are also too "Militarized." Sorry but, If you worked in a place where people are randomly trying to kill you, don't you think you'd want a bit of protection? In fact. I Think the police should be more militarized. That would be better. Probably would have stopped this shooting too.

Only the violent protests got news coverage. The world is always bigger than the one presented to you.

I've seen the peaceful ones many times. Sure, There are peaceful ones. But it's getting out of hand none the less.

Don't let the actions of a few ruin your perception on an entire issue our country is facing. Violence against police is a TERRIBLE thing, any sane person can agree on that. Its just that in the town of Ferguson, the black population of the town feels like they are being oppressed and taken advantage of by the police. There's plenty of evidence to show that it is true. Look it up for yourself. Police statistics and leaked emails show that this is true.

Look back through history. Anytime cultural change happens, there is bound to be some violence.

And as for over-militarization, I think cops should have whatever they need. Its just that when they roll up to a peaceful protest in miliary gear as they do time and time again, it starts to make people a little weary. Also, there's this:

I have family that live in Ferguson, and they say that they didn't see any peaceful protesting when the rioting was going on, as it is now.

Well its not like there's going to be a prayer circle down the street from the looting. It was overwhelmingly peaceful at first, but it was escalated.

Listen guys, we all support cops. That's why we're here. But bad policing exists; there's bad apples in every job. What's happening in our country right now is these bad apples are being exposed, and that is a great thing.

Yes, but that's not the problem.

The instability in society, the rioting, is mainly over questioning use of force in Police Procedure in the wake of Missouri v. Darren Wilson. Yes, you see and post these militarized photos, but given the circumstances, I see them as acceptable, not preferable, but acceptable.

What about the drugs on the streets? Mob mentality destruction? Illegal firearm murders? Increase in Police Deaths? Public Support of Law Enforcement and Government in general Dropping? High School Dropouts, incarcerations, I can go on. These are the problems that's leading cops to become more paranoid for their lives.

This instability is what makes officers scared, and on edge, and more likely to do something you'd consider to be a "Bad Apple". You see Assault Rifles, you see Ferguson Police Department's Racist Report from the Attorney General, it's easy to name police as the problem, but the reality is it's just not the problem. It's a result of a real problem.

It's tough being a police officer in recent years, especially policing certain demographics. I know I'm not a cop, but if I was I would certainly change the way I interact with the general public, especially among certain groups for my own safety within past years.

Recently, police officers are seeing fewer employment, and for good reason, the pay is no where near fair for the job. I salute the cops that stay in Ferguson, that takes real honor and courage.

Cut them a break, they're doing their best.

Come on, it would be silly to think that race doesn't play a part in the discussion about police culture, specifically in Ferguson. I agree, being a cop is a tough and dangerous job. But you can't use that as an excuse for lack of action when the bad apples are exposed.

You can't tell me this shows that Ferguson cops are doing the best they can.

"There were similar racial disparities in traffic stops. From 2012 to 2014, 85 percent of people stopped, 90 percent of people who received a citation, and 93 percent of people arrested were black. Black drivers were more than twice as likely as their white counterparts to be searched during vehicle stops, but 26 percent less likely to have contraband."
