(2/24/15) Insane NJ Police Pursuit Ends in NYC

Featured Replies

I just found this video of a pursuit that began in NJ and ended in Brooklyn after a dangerous PIT maneuver spun the fleeing vehicle into three parked cars. The primary officer was driving more erratically than the suspect, attempting to PIT the car several times without any consideration of bystanders and other cars on the road.

Here is also the story on NBC New York: http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/Police-Chase-Verrazano-Bridge-New-York-Brooklyn-Staten-Island-Chopper-Video-293888481.html

Do you think the actions of the police here were overly aggressive?

Primary was TBTA. Probably a bit eager to get into some little seen action on the bridges lol. Idk how their training compares to NYPD or NYSP. If my memory serves me right, they're just peace officers, not full police officers, so they don't go through the full blown police academy, just the peace officer one

After seeing so many chases in California these officers... jesus. What the hell were they thinking. Just spin the guy out at highway speeds, when another police car is right next to you. Endanger the public by trying to pit out the suspect's car on public streets at high speeds.

Just call in a fucking helicopter and keep the suspect in sight, he'll run out of gas eventually, and he won't drive so recklessly if you don't drive up his ass 24/7.

Don't know if the cruiser was an Impala (it looks a bit like it), but damn, this one had some power under its hood considering how fast he was catching up all the time.

Yes it was an Impala.

Yeah, this is pretty much LCPDFR in a nutshell.

AI Cops would be so far ahead ramming the suspect, and I'm just hanging back.

I bet when they got him back to the station, they probably beat him with a phonebook too.

Wait... Were there NJ cops following him into NYC? Isn't that like, waaay out of their jurisdiction and because the suspect was fleeing over a state border, shouldn't it be treated as a federal case, so he got the FBI and the Marshals up his ass?

Not NJ cops, it was Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority Operations Force in NY. Basically they deal with the stuff on that bridge and the surrounding areas, so I think they were still in their juristdiction

Ah.

But still because he crossed the state border, shouldn't it be a federal case?

Probably, but you can't expect the FBI to show up at a moments notice, especially for something so insignificant as a pursuit. It's a waste of money and time.

Yeah, but he is gonna have to talk with the feds, right?

Probably. Well, both suspects. The other one tried to take off again, so both of them will.

For the record, the NYPost ran a more detailed article on this occurrence when it happened.  The individual that kicked off the chase was already wanted by federal authorities, and at one point rammed into the back of another law enforcement vehicle.  I will not comment on the driving techniques themselves as I am unsure of what exactly the TBTA's training and guidelines consist of.
