IS there a way to prevent viruses, im not sure if i keep getting adware from here from downloads or im picking it up from somewhere else does lcpdfr scan their files before they distribute them?

I use Avast, and they work extremely well. It even notifies me when websites try to track my activity, and I can choose to grant them access or deny them.

Some anti-virus softwares detect LCPDFR's Install file as malware. Just make the folder as an exception.

As a general rule, I don't download anything from any website that I consider to be 'dodgy' - it's generally pretty easy to find those ones. 

 

It would be best to get a paid subscription to an Anti-Virus and have it immediately scan your PC.

 

Alternatively: http://www.iobit.com/advancedsystemcareper.html offers limited download protection but does a good job of scanning afterwards.

As willpv mentioned, we scan all files before approving them; if a file you download is picked up as infected by your computer, please report it (and mention the antivirus program you use, that's important).

Avast is good and free, but i'd recommend just using Malwarebytes if you don't want updates popping up every hour. Malwarebytes deals with the crap you don't want, without spamming you sh*tless. Although it isn't free.

My family members complain of this the most. Viruses. We live in the same house, use the same internet connection, same anti-virus and yet somehow my dad's PC ends up with the deadliest ones available out there every week while my PC has never seen a trace of it for three years. Why, you ask? Safe browsing and common sense. Thats all it takes. Can't stress it enough. I'm fed up telling people to mind where they tread on the internet and look out for any external data they receive via external drives. Honestly, just stick to this rule and you don't even NEED an AV.

 

As for using an AV for exceptional situations, I'd say go with Avast!. Easy to setup, free to use. And because I like to keep it hassle-free. As for the common sense while browsing part:

- Keep up with the updates and scan whatever data you receive in form of ext drive.

- Don't install unnecessary bloatware.

- There's no such thing as a free lunch so mind your own business and ignore whatever online lottery "you just won!" for which you didn't even submit nothin'.

- Use https protocol websites (LCPDFR is one of them) and log out after every session.

The pro version is much better, and given it's a 1 time payment I would highly recommend going premium.

The pro version doesn't just do real time protection (which is very helpful) it also does real time website tracking to make sure it isn't a potential virus nest and beautifully it gives you their "chameleon" driver. What that does is if a virus shuts down your anti-virus software or stops it from executing (yes that can be done) the chameleon driver installs itself like a virus, kills all known virus processes and then boots malware bytes via the driver so it can't be blocked. It's not often used, but very very helpful if you do fuck up :)

 

Also folks, employ a little common sense. If your best friend sends you an email "HEY CHECK OUT THIS WATCH SHOP I GOT A CHEAP WATCH!" With a link...it's probably a virus waiting to happen, don't be a moron and click it.

 

And don't speed click through installers either. Some auto default to "yes" when they offer to install third party software. This can often result in unwanted programs.
