Anyway, I thought I'd post some local-sih pictures for you guys!

 

First off, it's not police-themed per se, but here's a shot of Portland, OR in 1958

 

 

Second, A 1930s Oregon State Trooper!

 

Then a 50s Ford Fairlane (I believe) Multnomah County Sheriff! Note the red steady burn and the blue beacon light.

 

And lastly, here's an article about a guy who bought a Ex-Oregon State Trooper 1978 Plymouth Fury. He couldn't help but slap a Twinsonic he found at a swap meet (who can blame him!?). He just got it this March, and he said he'll blog about his restoration. Also has a sweet rear pic of a OSP Polara. Strike or FCV, recognize the lightbar? I think I've seen Washington State Police use it too.

Interesting article you found. I do hope that the restorer keeps that car dry in that environment. What do you think?

Yep, technology sure is amazing. Look at the computer for example, it once took up and entire room but now you can fit one in your pocket. Awesome stuff.

So whats the story behind the NYPD using clear glass after the 60s? It seems once you hit the 70s and 80s, their lights are clear and then sometimes they have the red (like the aerodynic).

I'm not entirely sure on that, and it is a good question. I know that the clear glass entered use in 1963, but that's all the info I was able to find.

Anyway, I'm shocked that none of us have talked about the first "muscle car" to ever be implimented by a police department. the AMC Javelin!!

I love the javelin. I think it looks great! even tho it's a 2 door

I can't say I like the aestethic of the Javelin too much, AMC has always had some peculiar designs. I'm fond of the AMC Eagle, the Wagon version in particular. Thought for off-roading, they were solid and generally realiable vehicles. The 4 wheel drive versions came standart lifted.

No idea which lightbar is that, FCV96 is who normally knows about this kind of stuff. The mirrors seem to be aftermarket. Looking forward to see some progress of the restoration but for some reason I think it shouldn't take him too long to do it, at least the paint job part 

I've always liked AMC's odd-looking designs, the Eagle, Matador, and Javelin included. Those are some great photos!
