What do you guys think will be the next GTA city?

Featured Replies

Except when they had Liberty City, Vice City, and San Andreas in GTA 1, then went back to Liberty City for GTA III, Vice City for VC, San Andreas for SA (expanded at that point to a region, while the original was just a city), Liberty City for Liberty City Stories, Vice City for Vice City Stories, Liberty City for GTA IV, Liberty City again for Chinatown Wars, and San Andreas for GTA V.

Looking at continuities instead of games, there have been 4 universes: GTA 1, GTA 2, GTA III era (III, VC, SA, LCS, VCS), and HD era. The first and third had exactly the same places represented: each had LC, VC, and SA, representing NYC, Miami, and California (GTA 2 was in a generic place literally called "Anywhere City"). We're in the HD era, including GTA IV, EFLC, Chinatown Wars, and GTA V. Thus far, we've had Liberty City and San Andreas appear. Vice City has been referred to, but has not actually appeared.

I'm confused how you could possibly think that Rockstar doesn't repeat cities. They do.

Was about to say that ^.^

Anyhow, I hope it's Vice City... I've played lots of VC on PC and my PS2 (although I will probably get around to doing that on my pc in the summer :D) because it just... seems cool. I hope they somehow include at least a reference to Vercetti... like how he had his "mob" or "family" in VC but it fell apart few years ago or something like that. Working for him or something would be odd, since GTA 4, 5 and soon to be 6 are all new generation... so they're all different.

Andddd watching this while watching the world cup ITA v ENG match makes it hard to concentrate ;( lol

I would love to see the next gta map being any new city or being based on New Orleans, Louisiana. Being its my home state!

Also i just wanted to know what in the hell is lake Pontiac? LOL New Orleans - A big city that is situated on lake Pontiac

Ima sum New Orleans up in a paragraph for yall real quick as above stated didnt do New Orleans any justice.

New Orleans is a night life party city of the south. There you will see gambling, drinking, and drugs. It located at the mouth of the Mississippi River, the longest river in the United States of America at 2,340 miles long. It is mainly surrounded by swamp, marsh, bayous and two main lakes, Lake Pontchartrain and Lake Borgne. Each weekday over 40,000 cars cross Lake Pontchartrain on the longest bridge in the world, The Lake Pontchartrain Causeway. Louisiana is also the murder capital of the United States, being the highest crime rate state in America thanks to New Orleans. Last but not least, the famous Bourbon Street. Bourbon Street is a road in the heart of New Orleans' oldest neighborhood, the French Quarter in New Orleans, Louisiana. While it is now primarily known for its bars and strip clubs, Bourbon Street's history provides a rich insight into New Orleans' past.

Rockstar said something about Vice City not being likely because it was based in the 80's and it would be weird coming back or something along those lines. My guesses: San Fierro or Las Venturas. They may create a new city, but name it something fictional like Chiglogo (I know, they would name it something way better). Also, I didn't read the entire thread yet, so I apologize it it was said before.

“It is always a possibility. There are a few references to the city in our current-gen GTAs so it is part of that HD universe, and it is certainly somewhere we would love to revisit. However Vice City, perhaps more than any other GTA game, was as much about the era as the setting. Miami in the 1980’s is so iconic it would feel strange to revisit the city in a different time period.”

^They also said that they probably won't do that, they mainly focus on US based cities.

“These days I think we would love to set a game in the UK, set in London, whatever, but I don’t know if it would be a GTA game,” he said. “I think there are plenty of great stories we could tell about the UK, great environments to showcase, great gameplay mechanics that could have a UK bent to them – I just don’t think it would be a GTA necessarily.

I'm tired of cities based on coastal cities. I really want to see a midwest similar to San Andreas, with Chicago, Detroit, St. Louis, and Memphis as main cities and various forests and mountain areas in between, with small towns in those areas.

Sticks and stones may break bones, but 5.56 fragments on impact.

Detroit would be epic.

What about a Canadian city? Like Halifax, or Vancouver?

Canada is too nice for that. ;)

Personally, I'd like to see London in the next game, but I agree that it probably won't be the best setting for GTA's gameplay style. Plus they might just ruin it with the over-sterotyping of the un-realistic RP accents, and nearly never feature the Asian mafias or the yardie gangs and mandem that are so common in 21st century London, and commit the majority of all violent crimes. Probably just best left to the modding community.

i think the major reason for the seaside citys in gta is the fact that an easy and natural way to end the map without cutting it off.

But i agree with you. I would love a GTA version of chicago

There are solid reasons for surrounding a city with water: you can't have people driving out forever along a road, it looks weird to have a city that doesn't have any roads leading out *unless* it's surrounded by lots of water, and invisible walls and border patrols aren't too fun.

True, which is why I want the map to be like San Andreas. Las Vegas is no where near an ocean, but one still exists as a border around Las Venturas.

DC would be great as an idea, however, R* would get heat from having the setting there.

I'm not sure how they'd get any more heat than they already do from the GTA series. Games have been set in the DC area proper before, and Rockstar wouldn't even do that - they'd set it in a city which is a caricature of DC, just like LC is a caricature of New York and LS is a caricature of LA.
