Complete spin off police game

Recommended Posts

What would make a great spin off from the GTA series other then (L.A. Noire)  where the LCPDFR mod is turned into an actual game in itself. Like, lets say, same mapping and world engine as GTA but with a modern police only series. Firm and stable build and development of a COPS game on its own using LCPDFR's concept?

Personally would love this if it was to be created/development. Basically a game that is GTA spin off but based of the show COPS

I remember playing it. It was great when you got to choose your car roll out of the underground parking lot onto the streets...

Ya i'll have to check that out, I dont have my ps1 anymore though lol.  LCPDFR and its developers/G17Media have great potential here to produce a great game, thus far they have out done themselves. Who knows maybe this is the start of something new and  amazing!

Could take a while for 3 people to develop an entire game...lol

Great idea except rockstar will never license the GTA engine to do so........

developing your own is financially impossible. if i were some filthy rich russian warlord billionaire i could see funding this... donuts studios. employ 1000 people and see what they come up with in 2 years...

Hell how many people were involved in the creation of the first consumer based computer? I think not that many. Mark Zuckerberg started a huge online site with just himself and his partner. It only takes some very good skills and knowledge to create something amazing and fun. the game DOOM if you remember back when it came out I believe it involved just a small number of people. Of course money is a problem as most tools and programs needed to develop such a game isn't cheap,... example autocad.

I have some development programs as well as autocad but again like mention money money money and resources and time.. but just the thought of a COPS based game with the LCPDfr concept makes me want to take a cold shower ahem ....

Not really. Anything with anywhere near the polish of RAGE takes loads of time and money. Keep in mind, RAGE was the full-time job of a pretty large number of professional game designers. The LCPDFR devs do it in their spare time for free. It's not really possible to get from here to there.

About things like Doom and Facebook: Doom may have been good when it came out, but try playing it now. Facebook today is far more advanced than Facebook back when it started; the starting product couldn't be nearly as popular as it is now. Polish matters. It is also time-consuming and expensive.

I agree with that.. note that I don't know much about RAGE but with enough time, money and motivation anything is possible right?

I still have a lot to learn on the subject if development and producing/designing but it is something that can be very enjoyable if you can get into it enough. If I had some serious cash I'd support the G17Media team all the way.. like I said what they have done is amazing and I wouldn't be surprised if rockstar games inc or any other game dev companies for that matter take a key interest in what G17Media has done no?

Worlds Scariest Police Chases sucked. And I've said this a million times already, but police sim games don't have mass appeal compared to the likes of Grand Theft Auto. People want to play games to cause mayhem and break the rules, not enforce or obey them. They're supposed to be an escape from reality. I love police work, but I'm one of the few. Almost all of my friends hate cops and don't give a s*** about things like speed limits or drug use.

If your going for a free game then u can get some free game engines such as Unreal or Unity, those can help you get started with a base, and then kickstarter or something for the licencing costs, to allow you to start charging.

And 3 people is enough, think about Introversion Software in the UK, sure they don't create major graphic games, but their games are enjoyable and came from a bedroom initially :P.

I think 3 people could do it as long as they don't EA themselves setting dates that they can't keep and releasing software that is buggy as shit.

You'd have to license the GTA engine from R*.  Would be virtually impossible to create a living world like GTAIV with 3-4 peeps from scratch and hit deadlines (you would have deadlines for any commercial endeavor).  You'd need physics modeler/engineer just to get started and with a whole team/development crew it would take years and years just to get it to the state GTAIV is in now.  It's a full time job for the pros who make these games...it's their only job and they are paid well to do it.

Rockstar would license it for a price...a heafty hefty price indeed and probably royalties to boot.  A lot more goes into building games than coding.

Nice dream though.

Good day,

check out http://www.introversion.co.uk/prisonarchitect/ they have made over $1 million in kickstarter funds, but they have set no release date, plus this is a small indie company and no one expects them too.
