Terrible shadows/Shadow LOD. Anyone find a fix yet?
Enable "Ignore Suggested Limits" and it should no longer be grayed out. It's safe to exceed VRam. I'm about 600MB over and am fine (35-60 fps).

There may be a performance cost, but have you tried enabling High Definition shadows in the "Advanced Options" menu?

Weird graphical error
The first picture looks like Minecraft. Sorry, I had to say it. Update your drivers. If that doesn't work, you're exceeding your VRAM. Lower some settings.

Everything changes - the new LCPDFR.com
The site looks great! I just wish there was an option for different background images like there was on the old site for some time. I know that's not a priority as of now but it's just an idea.

What is the best gaming PC for GTA V and in general?
Nvidia M series, AKA Notebook cards: http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebooks.html Good luck with everything.

What is the best gaming PC for GTA V and in general?
I would go with the 970, only because it's Nvidia's newest generation, and more energy efficient. But these cards are only for desktops. For a laptop, there's M cards which are smaller, compact, slightly less powerful versions. But as we said above, you can get much more performance per dollar with a desktop than a laptop. Go desktop all the way.

What is the best gaming PC for GTA V and in general?
The GTX 780 vs. the GTX 970 is a tricky one. The GTX 780 is better in these aspects: Better floating-point performance5,040 GFLOPSvs3,494 GFLOPSAround 45% better floating-point performanceSignificantly more texture mapping units240vs104136 more texture mapping unitsMore shading units2,880vs1,6641216 more shading unitsWider memory bus384 bitvs256 bit50% wider memory busBetter passmark direct compute score4,624vs4,131More than 10% better passmark direct compute score The GTX 970 is better in these aspects: Significantly higher clock speed1,050 MHzvs875 MHz20% higher clock speedMore memory4,096 MBvs3,072 MBAround 35% more memoryHigher turbo clock speed1,178 MHzvs1,020 MHzMore than 15% higher turbo clock speedSlightly higher pixel rate58.8 GPixel/svs52.5 GPixel/sMore than 10% higher pixel rateMore render output processors56vs488 more render output processorsLower TDP148Wvs250WMore than 40% lower TDP I'd say it's a tie. The GTX 970 is better if you want more memory and the capability of higher quality visuals. The GTX 780 is better if you want better processing and computing capabilities. Both are great for gaming, but it's definitely confusing how they rate and classify these cards.

Modding and V
I think it's quite obvious that everyone is working very hard to make sure that this could become a possibility, but that doesn't mean it's going to happen. This is just my personal opinion, not an official statement.

Calm down bout GTA 5 mods
I don't really see any discussion coming from this topic. If there's any problems relating to the same questions/topics being posted repeatedly, just report them. There's no need to make a topic about it.

Is modding now possible for GTA 5?
If anything, it looks more difficult. It's all in the form of .rpf files. It's probably going to take some work to break through. You'll no longer be able to just go into common folder and edit text files, like handling.dat or vehicles.ide, it looks more complex than that in my opinion. Maybe someone will create a successor to Spark IV that will make it easier and accessible.

How to Increase Performance
Hi everyone, The last day or so I haven't been playing the game's story line as most of you are (I've already played through it a few times on the old versions), instead I've devoted my time to observing the game's graphic options and characteristics. In general, seeing what I can do to squeeze the best graphics out of it with the best FPS possible. After doing countless reboots and benchmark testing, I've found a few helpful things. Not all of us are able to afford expensive computers, but that doesn't mean you can't enable higher quality graphics. As of now, I am able to run the game on Ultra (1080 resolution) with 40 fps average, sometimes higher. Though on the advanced graphics menu, I have all enabled except the extended distance/shadow sliders all the way down. My hardware: Intel Core i7 960 @ 3.2 Ghz EVGA GTX 680 Superclocked (2 GB) 12 GB of RAM. I consider my rig at least mid grade or entry level high end. All in all, I've found several ways to increase performance: Run in Borderless Window mode. This allows you to turn off VSync, and you also won't have any screen tearing. Easy FPS boost. On the Population Variety Slider, feel free to move it down. This is a very VRAM hungry option. I believe it has to do with the amount of extras on Peds, such as backpacks or items in general, or the variety of vehicles on the street. If I'm wrong please correct me. I moved it down and noticed little to no difference. Use your sacred VRAM on something more useful! Additionally, if anyone is experiencing random performance drops (such as the game locking up, super low 1-5 fps out of the norm) this is likely caused because of overloading. Decrease this to ease your VRAM. I personally suffered from this and decreased the slider to the near bottom (2 notches) and no longer experienced this. NVIDIA cards - Use FXAA instead of MSAA. While it may not look as good, it has nearly no performance cost and I can't really see any difference. Additionally, enable it through your control panel rather than in-game for more FXAA options (different levels mostly), while in game you only have one option, which I assume is 16x. AMD cards should also use their equivalent if they want to increase performance. NVIDIA cards - Go to the NVIDIA control panel. Enable Threaded Optimization, set Maximum pre-rendered frames to 3, and under power management mode, select Prefer maximum performance. Additional note: You may select "Ignore Suggested Limits" to On in the in-game graphic settings menu. This allows you to exceed your VRAM limit. I'm personally around 800 MB over my limit and suffer no issues in regards to performance. For those of you who want the most out of this game graphically, I suggest you do the same. If you prefer to have VSync for any reason, don't enable it in game. Instead, do it through you graphic card's control panel. Along with this, enable Triple Buffering. This helps increase performance while VSync is enabled. Overclocking: Note: Overclock at your own risk. I am NOT responsible for any damage caused to your card. You have been warned! Download the program for your respective card. For us NVIDIA users, I recommend EVGA Precision X. I was able to increase GPU CLOCK OFFSET by 42 MHz, and MEM CLOCK OFFSET by 115 MHz. I have not gone any higher, nor do I plan to as I found the sweet spot for my card. Pushing your card too far may cause overheating, instability, game crashes, and possible damage. You may also increase the fan curve and voltage. Don't mess with voltage unless you know what you're doing. I hope this helps many of you and you can enjoy this amazing game to its highest potential. Also, a special thanks to Murphy and Sniper296 for aiding my research. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to reply, Nick

There never were '97 Caprices, unless you're talking about the CVPI?

Last Kansas Highway Patrol Crown Vic Retired
Some departments sell them before 50K so they can: 1. Get rid of it before the warranty expires. 2. They can sell them for much more money. 3. They're getting rid of it before possible major mechanical problems occur. It may seem wasteful, but it makes perfect sense economically. If anything, it saves more taxpayer money than running the vehicles into the ground, having expensive repair work performed on them, and only selling them for 2K when they're done since there's no life left. In addition, it provides departments with lower budgets with solid vehicles if they can't afford brand new ones. I'm not sure if the KHP has take home vehicles. If they're not take homes, but rather pool cars, it may be another reason to sell them earlier since pool cars generally last half the life of a take home. Additionally, the car may only have 49,000 miles, but it could have 100K in idling. 1 hour of idling = 33 miles of wear and tear according to Ford, therefore 3000 hours = 99,000 miles. So 99,000 miles in idling + 49,000 driven miles = 148K in total on the engine. 150K is a fair amount of wear and tear, especially for a police vehicle that responds to life or death situations in which 1 second can make a difference.

Last Kansas Highway Patrol Crown Vic Retired
I figured this was somewhat sad. The end of a chapter for this state. http://www.wibw.com/home/headlines/The-Last-Kansas-Highway-Patrol-Crown-Vic-Leaves-Service-298171781.html There's a video with the article as well. It seems kind of wasteful to cut vehicles off at 49,500 miles but I see the point. They sell the vehicles while they still have value, and before major possible repairs arrive.

Community Team and Staffing Update (28 March, 2015)
We choose people based on their maturity level, personality, activity, drive and passion for the site, and their record with us. If what you said were true, everyone that has made 500+ posts, has been here for 3+ years, and is extremely active would be a moderator right now. And there would be 1000's of moderators. In actuality, we're very strict on who we pick. Since it can be a huge liability and security risk if we pick someone that's not suited for the position. There's very few people on here that meet our standards, and finding people is very difficult. Sure, the amount of posts, amount of time on here, age, etc. is a small part of it, but that's not what decisions are based on. Anyway, a warm welcome to MichaelV and welcome back Illusionary. Also, a farewell to Yard1 and NB - lots of respect for you guys.

Common LAPD Police Vehicles
My town has about 8 2011's left, all 2010's have been retired and been replaced with Explorers. So I'd say it's equally split 8 to 8. Surrounding areas have some left but I see Explorers almost everywhere I go. Yeah New Haven still has a lot, as well as Hartford. Hartford is broke so I imagine they'll be sticking with the Crown Vic's for some time. I also see several unmarked Tahoe's in Hartford.

Common LAPD Police Vehicles
California PD's, and generally anywhere in the South, keep their vehicles much longer than we do in the East Coast. They're not exposed to road salt or as many harsh cold conditions, which generally shorten vehicle life and reliability. This is why almost 90% or more of the LAPD's vehicles are still Ford Crown Victoria's. I also imagine that they don't mind sinking new engines or transmissions in a lot of them, since they love the cars. They actually have a machine that can bend frames back into place and pretty much straighten them for any that have been in accidents. They can't do that with non-body on frame vehicles. Eventually they'll have to replace them all for liability reasons, but I imagine you'll still see some running 10 years from now. Around here most town agencies have already replaced their CVPI's with Ford Explorers. It's pretty rare to see them now. Only the CT State Police still maintain a dominant CVPI fleet, but even now they're starting to phase in some Tauruses.

We lost a Wisconsin State Trooper in the line of duty - EOW 3/24/2015
Rest in peace. No words can truly express this loss. I myself hope to become a State Trooper, but this always reminds me how dangerous the job really is, and that tragedies can happen to anyone. Evil shows no mercy. No matter how good of a person you are, how young you are, or how much potential and life you had ahead of you. Evil is blind. It doesn't matter who you are, you can't escape it.
