[Guide] How to get rid and avoid texture pop-ups (Disappearing assets)

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

Hey there. I'm not sure if this is the right section to post this but it seemed the best fit. Apologies if not.

So I found a way to
avoid and get rid of texture pop-ups (when you look around too fast and things can't load in time with your camera movement, the map disappears, for example). I realized this had to do with my modded vehicles but didn't want to restrict myself to only download cars that COULD MAYBE NOT bug out my whole game. This can also solve EUP's issue of not being able to load the outfits or loading very slowly. This has to do with the same issue, Memory Overload.

The video guide I created was a result of what
@bikinichampagne suggested (link in the description). All I did was create a system that would allow people who frequently update their police fleet for LSPDFR (as it's my case) to downscale unnecessary vehicle textures in a repetitive and quick way. I mean, who needs a 4K game-stock carbine or a 4K dirt skin? To me doesn't make sense, even in FPS patrols. With this form of downscaling, I couldn't even notice differences. Little letters were still readable and HD as seen in video.

This way you can still play with HQ models and textures... Difference is, your vehicles won't surpass the
25MB hard limit. So you get a stable gameplay without the expense of quality.
Aim for
20MB per vehicle.

It worked for me and the
evidence is in the video itself (that's why its 22 mins long but has a time table so you can jump to the section you want). If it didn't work for you, you either aren't downscaling enough textures or your PC just cant handle it. Sorry, cant do miracles. You might wanna update your PC if he starts talking about Vietnam war stories. I guess GTA 5 will be too much sand for him and no downscaling in the world will save you from this.

So, all the relevant details are in the video. I guess what I'm trying here is to teach people a
good practice to optimize their vehicles. Also you won't need proprietary software for any of this.

THIS WILL NOT MEAN MORE FRAMES PER SECOND. It will stabilize your game, might get rid of some stutters but this isn't a method to solve your FPS issues. Regardless, try it and luckily you can prove me wrong.

Thanks man. I'd done some stuff like this but never knew about that batch processor to really speed it up. Very handy!

Nah man. Thank you for the suggestion. It was a life saver.

I admit when I first saw it I thought it would be one of those "solutions" that aren't really a solution since they offer a big expense of quality but by downscaling these huge and unnecessary textures, the only difference I noticed was no more texture pop ups and stable gameplay.

yeah it would be troublesome doing one by one so I researched and found this great tool. helps a lot

@iMalcolm27 thanks for the video man. it really shows the difference before and after the texture optimization 👍

I wanted to show I wasn't BS'ing so I thought it could only be right if I showed the before and after.

so ur saying its not just skins that's are causing it its also the things like the gun and or the radio set can still affect the game in this manner?

Yes. All textures weight in the total memory necessary to run your game in a certain build.  Vehicles were never designed by R* to go over 25MB, both in textures and models. And most of the times, its not even skins that are the heaviest: weapon textures, MDT PCs and Dirt Textures are the Top 3 heaviest. GENERALLY, downscaling those alone will reduce size by 10% or more of the total .ytd size.

If the car comes with a 10 and a 15MB model files, then you better know how to optimize models because even if you downscale the textures, the hard limit is being surpassed by the models themselves. So you still need to watch what kind of models you're downloading. But with these, texture-heavy vehicles still have a chance of being playable without having to crash the game world.

@Cyan sorry for the delay but I appreciate the pin. I feel this can help a lot of people so thank you.

interesting but  ic well ill have to start doing that cause with the newst gta5 update and lspdfr's update... shit went way southhh and I have been using the same models and never have seen it this bad 😛 I also notice that when spawning cops cars and then walkingg anyway and letting them disappear... for some reason I feel its still in the game somehow and causing textures to disperse... now for example using map editor to spawn those cars ill make a scene lets say about 10 cops cars spawned, few dead bodies, some cops and what not..... after im done roleplaying ill hit "new maps "to clear all of what ever I spawned ..... ill make a new scene and I would only be able to spawn 6-7 cops carsthis time  then I start losing textures all of a sudden even tho I just spawned 10 cops cars a second ago made a scene with no issue att all but the next scene I made the game handles less........

Texture losses are indeed progressive. I assume it has to do with some cache clutter files. But that's on R* end. Sadly the only thing I see working is using the heap adjuster and adjust the packfile limiter in windows settings in case you have a lot of RAM.

@D4RKN06 You will definitely feel an improvement. But again, I have this issue and I have 32GB of RAM so... at some point, surplus wont do too much improvement.

I bet if that's clutter thingy was figured out I bet half of us woukdnt have this issue.... right when the game starts loosing texture she crashes could be 10mins could be 2 hours it verys 😛 but yea the heap and everything i got as well but havnt seen much improvement..... i also blame gameconfigs :')

nope I experienced texture loss with 16gb of ram as imalcolm stated you must fix textures in the game using his method along with some other optimizations

Hi there,  Can you check my pictures?  I have some interior texture vehicle problems on my add on and replacement vehicles.  I also see it happen with some AI vehicles too.  Usually always the dashboard, side door panels and some other areas.  Outside looks fine and all vehicles.  Just some interior problems.  Also noticed some texture glitches here and there but not nearly as bad as in your vid.  Don't have problems with building popping in late but like the street surface will be one shade and then another shade as I move the mouse.  Not all streets and not all the time.  I noticed after installing my 5 or 6 add on vehicle but the problems slowly get worse and worse.  Didn't have interior texture problems but now I do.  Most of my add on and replacement vehicles are under 20mb.  I think I noticed about 2 or 3 that are over 25mb.  Could those 2 or 3 be causing the problem?  The screen shot is just the add ons.  You'll see that Hwaycar15 is about 23mb.  Under the hard limit but over the recommended 20mb.  I think I have one replacement that is 27mb, not pictured.  Just wanted to know if this method will fix it.  I don't really want to have to do all that if it doesn't fix it.  So what are the chances?  Don't worry, if you say the chances are good and it doesn't work I won't nail you to a stake.  😁

Great guide man! Easy to follow, modded all my cars to now be max 2k signs, problem is I'm still getting texture loss. Here is my car mod folder atm. My PC specs are

i7-9700k 5.1ghz, 1080ti 11gb, 3200ddr4 32gb ram, m2.ssd 1tb, something the matter? Or is the game just not meant to handle that much awesome while running LSPDFR?

Big thank you bro ! it's very easy and fast. Combined with the tip of false "Main.PreloadAllModels" in the setting of lspdfr it's should be perfect .

I did just the second tip for now and i can play more 1 hour with no textures clipping/loss in Los Santos city with many backups spawned in high settings !!

I have 3 mods pack installed for information.

I got this issue, the only way to repair is with this setting: Main.PreloadAllModels = TRUE, but if I do that my gtav crashes after 8min of load the lpdfr described here:

Spoiler

Hey guys,

maybe some of you know a solution to my problem. I experienced some LOD issues with my (replace) cars. In the city area the main LOD will not load properly. Textures are missing and will not load unless I enter the car. when I get out, it stays normal but as soon I reach the distance where the LOD changes and I get back to the car it is the same mess again. First I thought I replaced too much cars but the problem stays even after changing over 10 cars back to vanilla. And since the problem first occured I only replaced cars with ones that have a smaller file size. So this is not the issue. I also reduced the file size of the carvariations.meta which first seems to be the issue but no, still no luck. Also changing the LOD distance in visualsettings.dat or vehicles.meta didn´t help.

I removed the scripts and plugins I installed after the problem occured but this is also not the problem. Strangely in the countryside everything works well. Also playing around with the graphics is not helping. So any idea which might cause this problem??? The police cars work all well, it´s only some civillian cars....

Jesus, your car sizes are way too big. Changing the livery to 2k does not solve the problem. You have to get around 20,000 KB for one car to get a better performance (that means all car files together of one car - .yft, .ytd, _hi.yft, +hi.ytd shouldn´t reach 20k...)

And I see at least 4 cars which exceed the limit...
