[Research/WIP] Custom Light Patterns through carcols.ymt

Featured Replies

Ok here's a theory I thought of 10 minutes ago, I won't be able to test it for a while but if anyone else wanted to please try it.

What if you had one (or both) lightbars, with the same sirens, on a model set up as carmods, then you only had one lightbar on the model at a time. Would that mean that since the game is only reading one set of sirens at a time, you could be able to have dual lightbars with the same sirens?

If you don't read my readme files don't inbox me asking for help

I've made a carcols a while back that just seems to work really well on pretty much any car you throw it on. Here's a demo of it on my Kansas cars, no edits were done to the cars.  If a

No, Zmodeler won't let you export with multiples objects/meshes/dummies (hierarchy elements) of the same name

You could have 6 lightbars using only 2 sirens. This is not new.

he is referring to vehiclemods, which are separate from the main vehicle (as bxbugs did for a cvpi showcased by prophet)....so there is no chance for duplication of the siren nodes tho

How is this done, again?

Customization is key to my gaming experience. I take pictures, do textures and lore-friendly vehicles.

Your thoughts on this ? It's a little project of mine this month. I am working on a Whelen themed carcol file for models with Whelen products installed. The video shows some of the flash patterns in action. I think I need to throw in more types of flash patterns to mix it up.

Edit : I just realized that i goofed up with video editing. Ignore the long black screen in the end.

My Tahoe brought a tear to my eye... that is gorgeous.

For anyone interested I have a new pack out now that uses carcols, this time for LSPD.

I haven't seen many people here employing scaleFactor with their models. You can edit the scale factor value to change how much the lights scale when turned on and this makes it easier to hide lights in the off position while still using coronas. Feel free to check out the carcols in my packs, you will see that for some lights I use scale factors as large as 100 without issue.

So I am curious, if i want to combine carcols to make certain cars work, what do i combine? Im currently using BEL, and want to add in OfficerWalters' NYPD Explorer that requires carcols for the back lighting to work. Can anyone help me?

Please, call me Crazy.

I try to make youtube videos. Check them out here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7rzz2IoI4lW1Bdc70yZEIA

I don't know if I should post this here, or maybe someone could help me do this, but can someone make this flashpattern? It's my all time favorite! The link should start where the pattern comes on, and it goes to 3:04

All those patterns on the Valor and that one's your favorite? Damn.

I'mma open a can of worms on myself, but I personally dislike the Valor. I personally like the Liberty and the RX2700.

I've never been a fan of most flash patterns because they're super fast, spastic, and it just comes off as visually aggressive. I much prefer the more "classic" flash patterns.

LoL I'm not a fan of all of the "crazy" Valor patterns either, but come on, there's better than THAT!

Oh wait, I missed something...

>RX2700

Oh boy... Have you seen Ohio State Highway Patrol? Actually reminds me a bit of NYSP's flash pattern...

So I am going to attempt to completely take apart a siren setting and I need you guys' help.

This is siren 1 of siren setting one (police and sheriff)

If have an idea what some of these do, but I am not sure, so I wont answer. My main concern is I want to know the main steps to differentiate between flashing sirens and rotating sirens. Lets finally get one solid tutorial to siren settings!

First in the rotation tab:

  • delta value...?
  • start value...?
  • speed value...?
  • sequencer value...?
  • multiples value...?
  • direction makes it rotate other direction
  • synctobpm...?

Second the Flashiness tab:

  • Delta value (in radians) is direction from start the mesh is rotated
  • start value is where it starts...
  • speed value...?
  • sequencer value is decimal equivalent of a 32 bit unsigned integer (binary) flash pattern
  • multiples is how many times the corona spaws for each step of the 32 bits
  • direction?...
  • synctobpm...?

Third the corona tab:

  • intensity value is the intensity of the corona
  • size value is the size of the corona
  • pull value...?
  • face camera value...?

Other settings:

  • color value... color
  • intensity value...?
  • light group value...?
  • rotate value...?
  • scale value...?
  • scaleFactor is how much the siren scales down by to hide it
  • flash value...?
  • light value...?
  • spotlight value...?
  • cast shadows...?

Here is my 'unsynchronized' Whelen ComAlert pattern sequences. It is best used for light-bars, but can be also used for exterior body LED lights if you shuffle the sequence orders around. sequencerBpm value 1250 - 1300 is recommended.

Does anybody know if the sirens in @Thehurk's CHP pack are consistently numbered between vehicles? If so, has anybody made a realistic CHP pack for them? I might put something together at some point if nobody has yet.

Honestly, default lighting is sufficient for these cars. If you want hyper-realism, you can throw in a slight latency between each wigwag, but I don't think this is entirely necessary.

This isn't possible with carcols but I just thought I'd mention that newer CHP FPIUs change flash patterns depending on if its Wail or Yelp, which is pretty cool!  I linked a video below showing it. I don't know if this, or something similar, is what @PNWParksFan was referring too, but hopefully someone finds the vid cool :D

It's a cool concept, but CHP's patterns, IMO, are really stupid. Slow full-flash for a yelp? I don't like it.
