[Research/WIP] Custom Light Patterns through carcols.ymt

Featured Replies

Has anyone look into editing helicopter NAV/marker lights ? Right now they are dull and needs improvement.

It should look like this :

I've done some poking around in OpenIV, looking for a carvariation file that contains vanilla helicopter values, to no avail. I checked out the polmav model and it appears that it has siren 1, 2 and 4 locked to it, but I am not sure where it ties to.

I've made a carcols a while back that just seems to work really well on pretty much any car you throw it on. Here's a demo of it on my Kansas cars, no edits were done to the cars.  If a

You should bear in mind that aviation beacon and NAV lights are usually xenon strobes & halogen lights -- LED "patterns" do not fit most aircraft. Only the newest really use LED beacons.

Yes, I do understand that. I just want to see if we have the ability to customize aircraft lights. Since we have no answer,  we will have to assume that either it has not been attempted yet,  or its not possible due to encrypted files.

I tested the multiple lights but I think it was just a glitch.  I am sorry. Was to exited with reporting before testing.  If you have for example 2 siren1 dummies.  The game only uses one of the 2. If we just can select which dummy. Then you can use it in rph. One as direction bar and one as siren lights.

@GravelRoadCop Took a quick look in the carcols, but didn't see anything related to aviation. Maybe it is hardcoded? Have you tried opening one of the choppers up in zmodeler to see what the lights are called?

Yeah, I had a look at several choppers, and aircrafts in OpenIV. All of them has this mysterious siren 1, 2 and 4 assigned to them, but to know what the source is is the problem. It has to be hardcoded somewhere.

I do know that in Carcols, under light setting 8 ( not siren setting), is tied to all aircrafts in the game but i don't see any lines that allows us to change the numbers of flashes.

Here is a siren (siren3 on police1) I am trying to use for a front facing indicator strobe.

https://gyazo.com/bc50e1fad09f72eadbb90d68c5c8d4cd

  • The corona is facing backwards for siren 3 and 4 (the two strobes)
  • The coronas are successfully white

How do I tell the game to make these coronas face forward?

I'm going to rotate the dummy, and if that works, someone please come just delete my internet from me.

I don't really mess around with changing the direction of the coronas, but I'm pretty sure that the delta values change the direction of them. Take a look at this diagram from @harrison90

Your thoughts on this ? It's a little project of mine this month. I am working on a Whelen themed carcol file for models with Whelen products installed. The video shows some of the flash patterns in action. I think I need to throw in more types of flash patterns to mix it up.

Edit : I just realized that i goofed up with video editing. Ignore the long black screen in the end.

Yeah. Thats not really the issue for me. I'm talking about in OpenIV, when viewing the 3D model of the vehicle you can uncheck all and then select the items you want to appear. When selecting the sirens, before they would appear in there positions on the model. However since the update, they no longer appear seperately and everything must be selected to see any of the 3D model.

Thanks

I'm really liking those different flash patterns, the fire truck is perfect!

"Please, put it in park, will ya?" "LSPD, see the lights, pullover." "Stop the vehicle, we need to have a little chat!" "Get in the car and keep your mouth shut." "You have the right to absolutely nothing." "The damn gun is jammed!"

That engine looks damn fine, love how you even converted the wheels to dually (How could rockstar miss that?!) oh and what was the siren on the tahoe?

The fire engine lightbar pattern kind of matches with the one on this vid on the right except yours is missing 2 steady burns :)

In the sirensetting for the car you are editing, at the top of its section is a headlightflasher and taillight flasher option, it needs a sequence just like the sirens do

@RoegonTV Thanks. I thought that was the deal but was worried. GTA has been acting funny since the recent update.

For those of you who haven't seen, I just released a mod that gives all vehicles under sirensettings 1 and 2 more realistic lighting. I hope you all enjoy.
