So I was looking through a couple of spindles of old DVD-Rs that I have on my desk and lo and behold I found SWAT 4 Gold hiding on one of them. I remember playing this game like crazy when it worked! I loved it! But alas, as time went on I lost the original disks and only have the copy on the DVD. :/ Through countless websites I have not found any fixes. I did find the game on Amazon, BUT FOR LIKE A HUNDRED US FUCKING DOLLARS!! heh. 

So, have you guys every played this game? If so, did you like it? Did you hate it? What did you like/hate about it? Tell me! Allow me to remember the good 'ol days of gaming!! 

Also, has anyone ever heard of www.games2download.com? They have SWAT 4 Gold listed for $20 USD. If the site is legit, I may purchase. If not, looks like I'm going to be spending $58 on SWAT 4 Gold on Amazon after Christmas!!! I need a life...

 

Oh, and if you happen to have a copy laying around, or know where I can find one cheap, I'll fucking marry you and have your children. Even though I'm a guy...

After you said it was on Amazon for a hundred dollars, i checked Ebay.. They have none, it's like this game is extremely rare or never existed... I picked my gold edition up brand new for $10-$15 dollars like 5-6 years ago.

On Amazon you can get it used for $58, but I have no idea how reputable that retailer is. The problem is that this game was developed by Irrational Games & Sierra, and published by Vivendi. All of these companies are now defunct or have been bought out by someone else. Technically the game is co-owned by Activision-Blizzard and Ubisoft, who could dispute each others usage of the game and its franchise name. So we'll probably have to settle for the Rainbow Six franchise, which has been on a roll for three consecutive titles, in my opinion. I'm buying the newest one shortly.

I feel so dirty, but my friend directed me to a torrent for the game. This is the first time in I don't know how long that I've torrented a game. Considering it's no where to be found, and any copies for sale are reeeeally high priced, there really wasn't an option. It's installed and working, so I'm gonna give it a h'whack and see if I can still bust some crims!

I'm generally against torrenting games, as i like to support developers... Although considering the age of the game and that it's not being made anymore/stocked in stores the only place you'll get it is from private sellers.. so whether you buy it or download it, the devs aren't getting money for it.

Old games nobody cares about torrenting, since there is no gain to the devs, newer games (like Fallout, GTA V etc) should be bought since your money is going to the developers who worked hard.

I should point out that this is my personal opinion.. which doesn't represent those of G17 Media, so my above statement doesn't mean that G17 Media itself supports piracy and what not. 

I played it a "couple" years back and actually have a copy on my desk ready for install at any time. I was always a fan of the SWAT series and it's a shame they stopped the series.

I have the game too. Bought it about one or two years ago for only $5 or something like that. Now it is only beeing sold for over $50!

I picked it up at a sale at my local games shop. Damn, I love that game. Spend dozens of hours playing and replaying all situations with various tactics and had some good fun in co-op multiplayer as well. Too bad they shut the servers down a few years ago.

After my drive broke the DVD, I've bought it for like 5€ on Ebay.. and it works fine. I love playing with the Speach Recognition Improvement mod, but also the SSF mod(pack?). Though, it's a shame you can't combine those. Or maybe you can but it's damn complicated?
Everything still works fine for me. There's also a fix you can download to enable LAN-Multiplayer via Hamachi or Tunngle. There are even independent servers running.

What would I sacrifice to play a match of the VIP mode...

It's definitely a series, much like Police Quest, which needs a kick-started revival to show tactical games like them can succeed in today's market, as the antidote to the mass-market MLG dudebro Call of Medal of Battlefield shooty-boom games. As others have said, there's no shame in downloading this one from a torrent as the developers are probably long gone and the franchise is in limbo, so no one really cares. I for one would love to see a SWAT- style tactical callout mod for GTA; like swat 4's tactical orders system transplanted to work with bodyguards/partners in lspdfr (perhaps a little like the orders menu from lcpdfr 1.0)>

My dad found me a copy of it in the op shop one day, the entire game plus all the DLCs for like 4 dollars.

I believe Sierra was "reborn" in 2014 but is owned by Activision. 
Edit: After reading Sierra's history, it doesn't even seem like a big difference. They announced that they'd try to revive old labels. Though, I don't think SWAT is going to get a rebirth. And if it does, it's not going to be as good as the old SWATs. I mean, look at Rainbow Six. Siege is nothing like the old R6 like Raven Shield or whatever it was called.

Man, I remember playing the Police Quest series, back then I was like the only person who was a computer nerd in my social circle. People used to come to my house and beg me to play those games. Of course, back then it was all done from a DOS prompt, so I had to load the game(s) for them. Those games were so good.
