Need help buying/building or upgrading a computer?

Recommended Posts

Just a question, is the Radeon 6670 able to handle GTAIV on highest settings, and do you think it will handle GTAV?

For my birthday, I'm willing to sacrifice my airsoft loadout for new PC parts. So far I need a video card and PSU...

Absolutely not. I run a HP Shelf computer (which I will never stop regretting buying) with the AMD Radeon HD 7450 and I run low textures and 1280x720 resolution, and I get about 20-27 frames average. I know my processor isn't all that great either, so that may be a bit of the problem, but I also have 10GB DDR3 ram.

I recommend going Intel/NVidia. That's one thing I wish I could change.

Are these parts ok to run Gta 4 and mods?

Intel Core i5-3570K Quad-Core Processor 3.4 GHz 4 Core LGA 1155 - BX80637I53570K (209.99)

ASUS P8Z77-V LX LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Corsair Vengeance 8 GB ( 2 x 4 GB ) DDR3 1600 MHz (PC3 12800) 240-Pin DDR3 Memory Kit for Core i3, i5, i7 and Platforms SDRAM CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 (66.27)

WD Black Desktop 1TB SATA 6.0 GB/s 7200 RPM 3.5-Inch Internal Desktop Hard Drive Retail Kit (79.99)

ASUS GT630-2GD3 2GB DDR3 Graphics Card (74.24)

Cooler Master HAF 912 - Mid Tower Computer Case with High Airflow (59.99)

Cooler Master eXtreme Power Plus 700-Watt Power Supply (RS700-PCAAE3-US) (69.99)

Samsung 24x SATA DVD¡ARW Internal Drive without Software, Black SH-224BB/BEBE (21.13)

I think that sounds like the perfect PC to game with.

1.) RAM is the least important of the three things you mentioned (CPU/GPU/RAM), 10GB won't do you any good compared to 6GB in a modern game, especially if the clock frequency is low.

2.) You'd be wrong. It's perfect aside from the video card, which is trash. It's the type of card bundled with the type of computer you have, off the shelf "multimedia" PC's. And it's okay for that; YouTube & Netflix. Not for gaming.

Now that I look back to it I notice you're right about the GPU. I didn't really look at it, just saw the 2GB. My bad. :x

I will need to upgrade my laptop from an ASUS K53TA series to something that can last me 4-5 years or longer with upgrades. Two options I found that fit the best are the ASUS G75VW or the CZ-17 Valkyrie. Both run for a stock price of around $1800 all in, but the Valkyrie can be custom built with up to an Nvidia GTX 680M graphics card. I have researched the GTX 680M and it's performance is roughly the same as a desktop's GTX 660/70 series card. Links to specs bellow. Which one would be the best option for

a) running GTA IV with ENB and fraps at minimum 30FPS?

b) Running ARMA II on high with fraps at minimum 30 FPS?

c) Running Battlefield 3 on high with fraps at minimum 30FPS?

The iBuy if you can afford the SSD. FRAPS is going to kill your FPS if you're recording to the same hard drive you're reading from. Even with an SSD I dunno if things would be playable at high settings with any of those games. If you don't need to be portable, I'd highly suggest a desktop instead.

I think the 2nd one sounds the best.

A desktop was my first option, but I do not have one place where I can leave it set up since I am way too mobile right now (even in college I will need a laptop for the course I will be enrolling in for next fall). The laptops are my only alternative. I did research the GTX 680M a bit more and it can exceed all my listed requirements so long as (as you stated) use the solid state drive on a different hard drive (ARMA II High settings 74FPS average with fraps, GTA IV ENB with fraps 80-100FPS average and BF3 with fraps 55FPS average). So, I am just thinking long-term now. The Valkyrie or the ASUS?

If you turn the details down it will probably run, crappily. That card is garbage and the CPU isn't anything to write home about. I'd save up more money.

Could I run iCEnhancer at 40 fps with this setup?

Question in title!

Well the graphics card is weak. I know everyone thinks GTA IV is a cpu hog but I run currently a stock 2.4ghz intel q6600 and i put a Nvidia gtx 560 and i get a solid 28-78fps at 1920x1080 on a 46inch tv, and thats with a sick enb ill include a screen shot. I would upgrade your graphics card. maybe try to stretch your budget out to 400, I see its a budget system but trust me if your wanting best bang for your buck upgrade the graphics card cause i bet you will end up playing more than just grand theft auto on it aswell, and you know you wanna be gta 5 ready :P

Are you sure? For under 100 pound it's a really good card, and i don't know if for almost 60 pound more i don't know if i'll be needing that much power when i'm happy with running on lower settings, and if i ever want to upgrade when the arrival of GTA 5 comes then i will, but it's hard to stretch budget ATM.

I don't think you could at 40FPS. The Radeon HD 7770 is 128-bit and my 550 TI is 192-bit, and I have tried to run Icenhancer. I don't quite remember how much FPS I got but it was definitely not 40 FPS. Although the 7770's clocks are a bit higher than the 550s clocks, I don't think it makes a huge difference.

I agree with 1ian20. If you have 40fps only and you are going to use iE, you'll get 20-25fps only.

I would get an Intel processor and a GeForce GTX Graphics Card and make sure the graphics card has at least 2GB in it. Also maybe like a 600w Power Supply. Just my opinion cause I don't AMD things.
