Need help buying/building or upgrading a computer?

Should be fine. That power supply is dangerously low in wattage. Did you skimp on it to use the money on other parts?

Well I read some reviews on it and alot of people said it would be fine, but luckily when the company i bought it from processed the order they called and told me it was a little too low so i got Corsair 600w psu instead.

The thing to remember about power supplies really is that the max output of a power supply is just that; it's max output. This means that a 500W power supply does not always give you 500W. It might be 450, or 475. If your whole PC needs 500, you risk overheating or even zap-frying your parts. Always overcompensate with your power supply. I bought a 1200W in 2006, I'm still using it now. Best investment I've ever made from a computer standpoint.

Yeah you should be in the safe zone. I just wouldn't dare go any lower if I valued my equipment, which I do.

First my question is, why in the fuck did you buy alien-ware? That is the number one thing every person should know about computers don't buy alien-ware its over priced crap...

And yes it will be able to run GTA 4 just fine, but you paid about $600 to much, when I could of built you a computer that is better for cheaper but oh well....

So I'm getting a laptop, and one option has an NVS 5400M and the other has an NVS 5200M. How big is the difference between the two? (either for games or for things like CAD)

Hello everyone,

I need some help, i am new to the custom PC world and would like to build my own PC to play games on. My budget is approx $2,000 for everything from tower to monitor... Obviously im not looking to spend it all and building it my self to save $$. I would like it to run and play GTA IV LCPDFR, 911 1stresponse (manhattan mod) and the Sims 3 w/ expansion packs. So i am looking for help on parts and pieces to get to be able to build this thing..  It doesnt have to be the very best but stuff that will be a resonable price and work well for the mentioned game and plus for the future like GTA V, also looking for it to last 5-7 yrs with minor upgrades. All help is greatly appreciated. Thanks again!

I'd look into an Intel Core i7 Ivy Bridge or Haswell CPU, 8GB of RAM, an nVidia GTX 760 or 770, a matching motherboard, 1000W power supply, an aftermarket CPU cooler, a 2TB 7,200/10,000RPM main HDD, pair it with another if you want, Windows 8 Pro and a monitor of your choice. You should be able to get underneath $2000 for everything. I'm not going to look any of that up, that's up to you. But I'd guess you'd end up somewhere around $1700 or $1800 with everything you need. Enjoy.

I appricate the help, but i am really new to the computer world and i dont really know what alota stuff means.. i spent some time today looking on newegg.com at stuff and there is so much out there idk whats what... Like whats compatible with what and what the difference is between alota things. I dont even know what kind of case i would need to put all the components in and thats probably the simplest of it all but i dont really know. So if you or anyone can put me in the right direction that i can understand these things a little more and know what im looking at and what im getting for my money. Thanks

I am looking at buying the iBuyPower CZ-17 Valkyrie gaming laptop, but the one thing that I am wondering on is graphic card performance. I can get one of three options. The first is an Nvidia GTX 670M, second is the 675M and lastly with a $250+ cost is the GTX 680M. I know that these are NOT desktop cards so performance will be different, but just how different will it be on GTA IV or will it even matter?

First of all never buy an iBuypower PC. iBuypower often uses very low quality components in their their computers to save money, so instead of an iBuypower look at some of MSI's laptops like this one:http://www.msimobile.com/level3_productpage.aspx?cid=6&id=406 or this one:http://www.msimobile.com/level3_productpage.aspx?cid=6&id=401. Both of them include the new generation Haswell processor by Intel and the new generation Nvidia GPU's.

www.pcpartpicker.com is a great website to learn more a computers. Also you can get a great PC for around $1,500, you don't need to spend all $2,000. So here is a build I have put together for you: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1aAw7

Right, so that's totally why the price tag for my build is $2500. Right. Saving money FTW.

FYI: $2500 isn't an unheard of amount for a "boutique" laptop.

Protip 1: Don't buy a laptop

Protip 2: If you're going to ignore Protip 1, then don't spend much more than a grand, because your laptop is going to need to be replaced after 2-3 years anyway if you want to stay current and keep your detail settings maxed out. So get something like an ASUS G7 series or something. They're reliable, powerful and well priced. You can usually find one with an i7 and a near-top end GPU for about $1000-1200.
