[WIP] 2012 Ford Police Interceptor Utility

Featured Replies

Not at all rude, it's the simple truth. Exactly why I'm wandering why he's doing the State of Philadelphia, which has no relevance to the game seeing as it's set in Los Angeles. I would have thought he would be making an LA based Utility is all. Perhaps he's from Philadelphia, I'm just curious. I think it's fair to also say that most people want a vehicle for the environment it's set in, with GTA SA, LAPD vehicles were the most popular. With GTA IV the NYPD had the largest amount of mods, as well as the NYSP, so one would assume that the priority mods would be for GTA V to have LAPD vehicles. But of course, it's entirely at the modders discretion,  if he wishes to make a Philly based vehicle then by all means.

In my opinion though, he would satisfy more people doing an LAPD vehicle, because the LAPD and LASD have similar equipment, and very little would have to be changed, in fact, other than the skin most people would probably use the exact same vehicle (not realising the subtle differences between the two). The demand right now is for LAPD vehicles, then individual states come trickling through, that's what happened with GTA IV (when I joined the LCPDFR community)

The thing I liked about gta iv was the variability of models available, different lights and interiors. We can't just make every car have an arjent. Like somebody else said, what about chp and those who want to role play their cities in a suburban/city environment. Heck with it, what those who want to roleplay Alaska state troopers out in the open space. I feel a liberty ii is a wise choice because it resembles many different lightbars and could satisfy those who don't want role play lapd. Just my two cents and I look forward to this model no matter the author's choices.

Deep breath guys!    Just want to clear a few things up.  I made this mod EVL compatible for a few reasons:  I am lighting freak and I really like flexibility a mod like EVL affords.

Guys, I am not dead yet (neither is the project)....I just honestly had zero time to put into this the past few months.  I am longing to get back at it....i just can't answer as to when.

  • I've had a few people ask me that via PM....i'll send out the template to those who are interested as soon as I have it ready.  That way, we can have a bunch of skins ready when it's released. Worki

Hi All,

1.  The PPD is just a skin I made for testing, it won't be the base skin when released.  I made it for fun because it's a my local big city police force.  In my opinion, it should "ship" with standard LSPD, LSSD and North Yankton skins, just like the standard in game police cars.  Those that want to make LAPD based skins or any other, will be welcome to do so.  In fact some people already have ;)

2.  I am making a wheelen liberty II bar for this car because I like that bar, and that's most popular bar used on this car in this area where I live.  I have not seen one available on this site yet, so i am making one. I am modeling and texturing it from scratch, and configuring it for use in GTA.

3.  This is explorer is indeed a conversion of the NFS model, just like the other one.  It's a decent enough model to start with, but it's just a basic shell....a crap TON of work has to be done to it to get it work in GTAV.  Which is why it takes so long.

4.  The closed beta, which has not officially started yet, will certainly add more people as we go, I will post here when i need more volunteers.  I want to keep the number small and the processed very controlled so that when it's released, it will be as bug free as possible.  That way people can just enjoy it, and it will just work.

He might ask permission to use the one made by @F5544.

Yes, I will probably do that AFTER i get this version out the door.

Awesome! Thank you for the constant updates on your progress! I think the Whelen  Liberty II is an excellent choice.

It looks and sounds amazing so far! Keep up the great work!

Yes, I agree that variety is very nice. Enabling people from all over the US to play as their individual states,

One request only, and I do believe this is pretty important, can you put the current steel rims on? As opposed to the old style which you had in your image? That's all I ask, because no police Department has them (unless they have the plastic hubcaps on top). Otherwise, most police departments have these style steelies.

Ford-Police_Interceptor_Utility-2016-160

Ps. Ignore the 2016, they're the same as the current gen, I just needed a close-up photo.

Good luck with the project, and I agree, sticking to the game based departments is better. I look forward to your eventual release.

I love the the wheelen liberty II! I like F5544's bar as well only because LAPD actually uses those, but I've seen the wheelen liberty used as well and looks waaay better. Like I said F5544's bar is good only because of realism, but for me it looks to arcadey. Thank you for putting your time and effort into this mod!

video of progress on emergency lighting scheme.  liberty II light bar coming soon!  Sorry forgot to mute the siren in these videos.  I did not have my headphone on ;)

Older video (wheel texture has been fixed since then ;):

Just pure curiosity here, but the lights in the back window... Is it possible to make it so it's just a solid light bar all the way across? (maybe as an 'extra') or is it not an option?

anything is possible ;)  but making it a extra would be tough.  It's all a trade off.  We only have twenty "sirens" to work with, so with a full bar along the back glass it would have to be a slick top, as we would run out of lights ;p  I've already used 4 on the ram bar, 2 on the mirrors, and 4 in the back.

this car looks amazing !

Oh my god I love you. XD

Awesome progress though!

"Please, put it in park, will ya?" "LSPD, see the lights, pullover." "Stop the vehicle, we need to have a little chat!" "Get in the car and keep your mouth shut." "You have the right to absolutely nothing." "The damn gun is jammed!"

Working on new light bar for the FPIU: wheelen Liberty II with clear lenses.  Modeling just about done, on to textures next.

Would it be possible for you to do Trio flash patterns with this?

Well, the model is correct but alas, without ELS for GTAV availible, we are stuck with very few flash patterns, but let me see what i can come up with.  That said I am going to try to get a rounded "pill" look to the flashes, to more closely match what comes out of this bar.  I would kill to be able to make traffic advisors, and some of the mini flashers that are included in many of these bars.  sigh...some day ELS will come to GTAV.

Also, i was thinking about a way to add "preventative patrol" lights as an optional extra.   I think it would not be too hard to make them turn on with extra light 15, or just set them to an emissive and they would always be there...turned on on low power.  Would be of interest to anyone, or is it just overkill/dumb?

For those who don't know what i am talking about,  a lot of city police forces in the us are turning on low powered red and blue lights whenever the engine is on.  The idea is announce police presence to prevent crime.  DC has been doing it forever...

I wish to point your attention to Whelens official lightbar flash pattern software:

Fair enough! I suppose for something like that (as mentioned in another thread) we will just have to wait for ELS to come out to get the super detailed lights! (directionals, extra lights, etc). Thanks for your great work mate! Looks amazing!

Love the idea. Never heard of that before! It's unique and I like it :) it would be cool

I agree, it's a good idea, it's like California's use of steady burn I guess, and it's an additional pattern, I'm impressed with the idea actually, it's very good.

The idea about the steady burn is cool, but for accuracy, I have lived in the Los Angeles area most of my life and i can tell you that no law enforcement departments use steady burn on any cars.
