How many different lightbars uses your local PD?

Featured Replies

Here we really only have two different lightbars, I don't really know what they're called, but here you go.

Like I said last year, the old Highway Patrol cars here had Federal Signal Vectors. I miss them so much, they looked well cool. I haven't seen a Highway Patrol car in years now though. As far as I can

Those are Code 3 Defenders fitted with message boards and ANPRs. The Eastern States seem to use them a lot, but I've never seen them in WA.

Actually, I've never seen them here in Ohio.

Too much swear.

Typical LCPD:FR & LSPD:FR Player. REALISM!  Plays G.T.A IV, G.T.A V, ProjectCARS, CS:GO (Sometimes.), EmergeNYC (It's good, but very early alpha. Only has Firefighter gameplay. Will have Police & EMS too! Can't wait.), Red Orchestra 2/Rising Storm, Rising Storm 2, and more. Steam is: thebuilderman (shhh, I was 11.) (Nickname is GamerHackTV)

That's because he was talking about Eastern Australia. He's from Western Australia, not Washington.

Saw that after I posted. Well, still. Eastern U.S States do use them more.

Do you know what? Finnish is the most beautiful language in the world! But it's pretty hard to learn.

Heh. So is Japanese that I'm trying to learn. :b But if you live in Finland for a while, you will learn something, or when you study it.

Finland, the country I love, the country I would die for.

Who would ever dare to put an edge on a taurus...............................

Who would even dare use a Taurus. That's my question. They're the Ford Explorer of Sedans, IMO. Rubbish.

So, i'm from Germany and THE POLICE (yes, we've got only 1 police for the whole country) has mostly 2 different lightbars on their patrol vehicles. An older strobe- version and a newer LED- version.

Actually we have a separate Police for every state, plus Bundespolizei (Federal Police), Bundeskriminalamt (FBI) and Bundestagspolizei (Parliament Police). The police of the states furthermore is broken down into other smaller entities, such as the Wasserschutzpolizei (Waterpolice), Verkehrspolizei (Traffic Police), Kriminalpolizei (Crime Investigation Police), Bereitschaftspolizei (Riot Police), Schutzpolizei (your regular everyday patrol) and in some states the Autobahnpolizei (Highway Patrol).

And we don't only use two lightbars, we use several:

Hella RTK-6 (or RTK-4/5 for older models) (with rotors, or as "SL" with strobes or as "LED" with LEDs)

cXbQIHZ.jpg

kmtEo4Z.jpg

Hella RTK-7 (my personal favourite) (with different LED and Strobe configurations in duty)

urutf0s.jpg

Pintsch-Bamag Zirkon (Popular in Baden-Württemberg - looks like a cheap RTK-7)

OaxfAXP.jpg

or the older Pintsch-Bamag TOPas

2ihyaDj.jpg

and finally the less popular (but not in any way worse) Hänsch DBS 2000

u2ie1y2.jpg

and the Hänsch DBS 4000 (which is probably the most advanced and customisable lightbar available, but also expensive as hell)

Now I feel like I've done the german police justice. Still I might have forgotten some lightbars :P

Smart aleck!:tongue:Typical german. Mostly the lightbars are from the brands Hänsch or Hella. There're only some minor differences. They've got LED's, strobe's or even oscillating lights. But they always have the same style. The difference between a Federal Signal Vision and a Whelen Justice is more concisely than between a Hella or Hänsch! Also you forgot the LKA. It's a state police crime investigation agency. Not a federal agency! And our police is ONE police. There're so many huge differences between the police structure in the USA and Germany. You can't compare it. But you can say, we've got only state police agencies.

Klugscheisser! Typisch deutsch! :pirate:. In EINER Gewerkschaft organisiert. For translation please use Google Translator.:ninja:

English, please. "Put this in Google Translate for a translation" is not acceptable.

Here's what is most commonly used in the Netherlands. Haven't got a clue what any of it is called, if you do know, feel free to tell me.

This is what is used on the VW Tourans (used as main patrol unit). The red bit in the middle is an LED sign used to make people stop or follow (following only being an option on the rear sign)

maxresdefault.jpg

As shown here, the lightbar itself has blue and amber lights, blue being the actual emergency lighting and amber being used as warning lights in dangerous locations (blue is sometimes used for this too, depending on driver's preferences I think)

touran-politie-auto-nieuw.jpg

This is the setup on most VW Transporter vans (used as patrol, but more frequently as personnel/prisoner vehicle). The rear lightbar again has both blue and amber lights. On some vehicles it also has a traffic advisor. The white bulb is a searchlight. The LED stop/follow signs have been moved to the grille and rear window.

IMG_0044Kopie_zps10b0e6f6.jpg

Some of the Transporter vans however use this lightbar.

5-15.jpg

Since apparently the VW's aren't good enough or something they use Volvo's for highway patrol stuff. These cars have got a small light on the back left which again has both blue and amber lights, and more lights in the grille. Headlight flashers are also used during daytime. LED stop/follow signs are in the passenger side sun visor and behind the rear window.

05727.jpg

Unmarked units can differ a lot in their setups, so here are some random ones I pulled from google. Only common thing on them is to have the LED stop/follow signs hidden in the passenger sunvisor and somewhere behind the rear window, often folded down so they don't stand out.

Of course, minor variations do exist in some areas, I just couldn't be bothered to go find them. Due to the high amount of variations or lack of images this list also doesn't include special/supporting units like dog vans, riot vans, accident investigation or SWAT vehicles (as far as SWAT goes, they're mainly black BMW's, Audi's and Mercedeces with a bunch of hidden blue LED's and a magnetic roof beacon).

  • 1 month later...

There are some very interesting lightbars out there lol. Mine use a mix of light bars but are starting to replace the charger's with the Code 3 21F but we are moving to Ford Explorers and they will be slick tops.

C_21TRNOCC_large.jpg

My department has started to replace their Halogen Crown Vics with Whelen legacies on their new Chargers. We still have like 2 Crown Vics with whelen edges. Most of our crown vics have halogens though. keep in mind my department has less then 20 officers but about 30 cars. Lol thats why we didnt buy PI's or PIU's, they are to expensive compared to chargers.

In New England, you can go pretty much anywhere and bet you're going to see a Whelen Liberty. Security, Local Cops, Sheriff, State Police, they all use Whelen Liberties far more than other lightbar. It has something to do with the contractors that service the area.

Swedish Cops' comin' up.

First off, the StandBy O model. Classic, started production in the 80's and is still used by some counties. Standby-Original-bar-1.jpg

Then we have the W1 Model. LED, pretty new.

Our PD uses two different lightbars in Finland. But if we talk about every Finnish police vehicle, then there are 3-5 lightbars(?). We also have one police force.

Tillverkade i min hemkommun Trollhättan.

Made in my hometown Trollhättan Sweden. =)

Some of the newer cars here in Sweden except the SAAB 9-5 og and Volvo. Most of them uses STANDBY lightbars, also only one police force. Every police car has a stop light that tells the car infront to stop, by flashing a blue light with a solid red light beside it.
