If you're that immature to get offended by something someone has said on the internet about politics, then yes the section should be removed.

If, like most of us, you're happy to have a discussion with someone to try and prove your point, then no, it should stay.

Of course we should keep it. Political discussions are a fantastic way to enlighten others, even if you do offend someone along the way.

Removed? No, definitely not.   It does need some serious guidelines though. I'm sick of seeing half assed copy and paste news articles that only spark tensions between members.

What I mean by this is put some bloody effort in. Don't just directly copy bits of it and leave a link. I'll use one of CriminalKillaz's threads and one of mine as an example. And no, I'm not trying t

  • Not a fan of the Politics board currently. It'd be nice once in a while, but it's just a bunch of spammy news articles from Yahoo about very delicate topics that really serve no use being debated (i.e

I see what you're saying. Though I usually don't see much of a point to writing about the article in my own words. I figured why take the time to write about a news article when I can post the first few sentences and have everyone read it for themselves? A lack of care and time work hand in hand when it comes to my descriptions for article posting. I just simply don't care enough, nor do I have the time to write a full blown description. I am regularly on LCPDFR.com because I enjoy chatting with people that share common interests as I do, though I very rarely have the time to sit there and type a full blown description on something. As stated, I usually post the first few sentences along with my own personal opinion on the matter. When I post topics, my goal is to ignite a friendly, open-minded, calm, mature discussion between members on a very controversial hot topic. What usually happens is that people get offended, angry, closed-minded, aggressive, and immature. This is where I begin to find humor and entertainment in what the internet brings to the table as far as my personal life goes.

So if I get what you say correctly, you post something on a hot and controversial topic, but you don't really care about it? What is the point of doing this then? Also, the more controversial and hot the topic is, the more people will have very definite opinion on the subject, there's nothing out of ordinary here, it's the same everywhere, not only here. Of course some people will get offended when it touches them personally, and of course some will defend their opinion fiercely, just like you do, just like I do, just like a lot of people do. But the fact that you actually post something without really caring about it, only to then sit down and laugh at what it became is quite disturbing to me.

Fear of dividing a community isn't really grounds for removing a forum, obviously if they're going to get that upset over a subject openly debated on the internet then they were never exactly going to be best of friends to begin with. Aslo the exact opposite isn't being expressed in the forums. A well thought out and carried debate can be a quick way to bring certain types of people together, you don't have to agree with someone's opinion to respect it.

At the end of the day everyone knows what they're in for when they click on a forum called politics/society it's not like they're being ambushed. They can ignore the threads very easily. If the forum has to be removed then at the end of the day it speaks volumes about the entire community and what the moderators/staff think of them.. That they can't be left alone without turning everything into an immaturely thought out flame war.

I understand what you're saying. Though my intention isn't to appear "professional" to complete strangers on the internet...  Even if I post a "professional" topic, most of the responses probably won't be the least bit professional anyways.  :wallbash:

"i wish i could kill you fucking prejudice fat ugly american".

One of the responses I got in a topic I posted about anti-Islam.

That's absolutely an unacceptable response and it doesn't matter where it's posted it shouldn't be tolerated at all. That one line speeks volumes about the poster's mind set and obvious in ability to operate in an environment where people don't see eye to eye with them. It should be considered 'hate speech' and disciplined accordingly. I can't think of any other forums/community I've been apart of that would allow such blatant personal attacks.

What disturbs me is that no matter how many times I say that you're wrong, you still bring the same shit to the table.

For the third time now, I never said that I don't care about the topic. I said that I don't care to write an entire description on the topic because I don't have the TIME or patience. I laugh at what it becomes because there are rules here, and they are enforced. Even then, it still becomes chaos and people become closed-minded and aggressive. The part that's funny is how offended people get on a debatable topic. If you're so easily offended then you shouldn't be participating in the discussion to begin with. Grow a pair or go stay out is the way I see it.

Right, but where we disagree is the solution to the issue. You believe the solution is to avoid the discussion altogether. I believe the solution is that members need to work on their aggressiveness and hostility towards opposing opinions.

It is the internet, but this isn't the YouTube comment section, or the TwitchTV chat. Rules here are enforced and monitored, so I'd expect a more appropriate response when posting a controversial topic.

Why do you always have to argue everything someone says? Illusionary was just posting a suggestion and offering advice on something you were complaining about, no need to and try spark a debate out of it.

On topic, I think it should be closed. I don't believe the majority of the community is mature enough to debate things in a civilized manner. CK when you post things to debate but then state that you don't care enough about the topic to debate it then that (among other things you've said before) leads me to believe you are posting these things because you enjoying trolling people and getting attention by saying things that you know will evoke a response from people. Lately the majority of things I have seen come out of that section of the forum have just been flame wars. I almost never see any posts that resemble a civilized conversation and it usually just shows how little people actually know about the subject they are talking about. When people post things like "This is what I believe and nothing anyone says will change my mind" is just inflammatory.

Please reread my former posts before. I've said four times now that I never said I didn't care about the topic. PAY ATTENTION.

I said that I don't care to write a description because I don't have the time or patience. I'd rather post the first few sentences and the link, because that's all I have time to do. PAY ATTENTION. Maybe now it's a bit more clear.

Because debating is how new ideas and discoveries happen. If I feel a particular way about something, I'm going to mention it. I don't give a fuck if you dislike my opinion, if I disagree I'm going to state it. I disagreed with what Illusionary was saying, so I expressed my opinion. Under your logic you're telling me to sit back and keep quiet when I disagree with something being said. That's the last thing that I'm ever going to do.

It always comes back to "this is the internet so it doesn't matter" and "I'm no longer care enough to continue discussing the topic." Every time.

It is true that there are plenty of political forums out there, but by having a politics board on the site, it provides a place for people with common ground (GTA/LCPDFR) to discuss things outside of their common interest. The same thing can be said for the entertainment board. Is it related to LCPDFR? Of course not, but it is a perfectly valid board to provide for site users.

Ok let me rephrase it then. If you don't have the time or patience to articulate a description then obviously it must not be that important to you. If you are going to just throw out a topic and say "I am not going to write anything about this and these are my beliefs and no matter what you say I am not going to change them" (which is a very close minded thing to say) that is no longer a debate or conversation, that is just starting a flame war.

Like I said before, I have no problem having a civilized conversation about current events or politics but that is not what it has been lately. When people say that "it is the internet so it doesn't matter" or "no matter what you say I won't change my belief" then what is the point of the conversation? That is just flaming someone, I go into every debate with an open mind because I know that I do not know everything and I might be wrong sometimes or my way of doing things may not be the best or only way out there. So until people here are mature enough to have civilized debates my personal belief is the politics board should be closed, all it has done is turned into a flame board.

Did you expect to have a mature, informative debate on a site where the majority of the members don't even have a diploma?

There are few members on here that I can actually have an intelligent conversation with.

Oh look, the level of heated debate in here is almost equal to that of a topic that is in the politics board. Hmm...

You're making assumptions, wrong assumptions. I will not continue to debate with you because it won't accomplish anything. Farewell.

They are not assumptions if I have seen you say those things.

Abstain.

Politics are a very sensitive issue, and many people defend their political beliefs as much as they defend their religions. It's a room full of fuel ready to go off, but if people remain level-headed, sensible, logical and intelligent debates can be carried on without debate.

I don't ever expect to have a mature, informative debate on the internet. I thought a place where rules are usually enforced would be an exception, guess not.

You have not seen me say those things.

Just going to leave this right here.

You aren't going to change my opinion, so don't bother debating homosexuality with me.

I will not be convinced to accept homosexuality, regardless of any opposition I face as I've already stated.

As I've already stated, you aren't going to change my opinion.

And I didn't even have to go to different forum topics to find all those.

BTW, never said that I hated anyone. No need to put words in my mouth.
