Is LCPDFR's Community Team Efficient?

Featured Replies

I don't see why posting something like this would be against the rules, so long as everyone keeps it civilized and mature. (Which probably won't happen, but that's for the moderators to decide). I'll continue with my purpose anyways.

Recently I've been noticing a conglomerate of instances where the community team has been publicly criticized, more than I've ever seen on any other forum. This criticism is starting to become very blatant in it's form, and vary from members leaving, to status updates on profile pages. I personally have witnessed more than 10 members with status updates attacking the Community Team, and even more inconspicuous comments throughout the forum. Things such as the community team deciding when they want to enforce forum rules, and sometimes them breaking the rules themselves. LCPDFR isn't a Corporation, or big business, so I personally don't expect anyone to act any particular way; Especially with this being the internet, where anonymity conceals stupidity.

I'm not sure if I'm flying alone on this matter but I've definitely noticed it, and I'm certain that others have additionally noticed. So to wrap this crap up, my purpose here is to address the situation; Is this even an issue, or are others noticing this as well? I'd like to see some input and opinions from moderators, as well as other forum users.

Also, if the moderators decide to keep this topic open, please keep it civilized. I've also posted the definition of 'efficiency', I know at least one person doesn't have a clue what it means.

This is going to start a huge flame war... But i'm noticing it majorly!

I Recieved a long message about "Pointless Posts" because i posted "lol" on a topic.

I Think they get ya for the wrong things, But then.. The people who have serious offences receive less punishment.

^^ Remember.. Just an opinion.

But you kept it civilized and if everyone else does that, I don't see why this topic wouldn't remain open.

In my opinion, yes the Community Team is efficient. Currently it has around 11 moderators (if i'm correct) for 140,000+ members, topics that breach the rules are nearly always closed within the hour and the Community Team are always looking around for topics which could get out of hand and they make sure that someone is moderating it. When it comes to the people who post the status's and the topics, nearly all the time they are people who have had many warnings for breaching the rules before and when they get sanctioned for it they go on the defensive and act all innocent, they try and blame their actions on the staff team who have done nothing but enforce the sites rules.

You can find many sites for different games and they will have a moderating team twice the size of the one on this site and it will have moderators who take too long to reply to topics and deal with situations. So yes in my opinion the staff team is quite efficient for the size of it.

I do see where you're coming from; and please keep in kind that this is all opinion, and I'm just stating what I've witnessed from a personal perspective. How do you personally, respond to the challenge of moderators occasionally deciding when and where to enforce the rules? Or moderators breaking the rules themselves, or punishing certain people harsher than others?

But you kept it civilized and if everyone else does that, I don't see why this topic wouldn't remain open.

Now don't get me wrong though.. There are good moderators, Ineseri is quite good from what i have seen.

And yes, It should be kept civil.

In my opinion they are all brilliant moderators. Not just ineseri, I don't think they get much recognition though for the work they do for the community.

to keep it as Civilized as possible, i have seen some instances where there have been some questionable decisions made by the CT here.. i wont get too specific,   but to mention one without giving it away, i have a friend who wanted to show off some mods on here even though he owns another smaller site... he wanted to show his work, and when he mentioned that it would be released elsewhere (not a black listed site) he got a message telling him that its normally not a rule but that they took down his topic because he isn't releasing the mod he is showing on LCPDFR.com  when its been done before over the last 2-3 years, multiple times by other people, and he was given the inclination that they had made a new rule just because HE had decided to do it too..  Note he wasn't a part of any group that goes out here and just hates on LCPDFR constantly (like some people i know)

I Have my own issues with the CT here on multiple topics, and when i do i usually keep it between myself and that certain member of the CT..

then there's the whole DDoS'ing fiasco which i've still seen no Proof that suggests they Didn't do it, even though the root of the DDoS on GMC came from edinburgh Scotland

Keep in mind this is just my Opinion there's no real proof they Did or Didn't do it

and yet for some reason i still believe this post is going to get taken down

Bottom line is, there are a lot of Decisions to make in a 24 hour period, and you're bound to get a few wrong..

I Do Like Other Sites better, specifically because of the Moderation, my favorite site would have to be Gta Modding Chest even though my favorite used to be LCPDFR for a very long time

First off, it should probably be noted that the site isn't a democracy and any concept of freedom of speech people have doesn't legally apply here.

We allow discussion that doesn't violate our Community Guidelines, and we do this quite limitlessly, e.g. topics like this would be removed on a lot of other forums I know.

That being said, people generally take dislikes to power structures. People generally take a dislike to police, governments and teachers. And it's quite common to see dislike or hatred for administrators and moderators of online communities.

For those who disagree with our rules and violate them, we generally engage them and tell them what we took issue with, how it violates our community guidelines and to warn them from doing it again. When they don't improve their behaviour over many warnings, they are shown the door temporarily. If it continues, they are shown the door for a long period of time (a year or more). Bans are not common place, however, as evidented by the people complaining about the team so much.

The great thing about the Open Internet -- there are alternatives to LCPDFR.com. GTAPoliceMods, GTAForums, GTA-PoliceModifications and more. If people have strong disagreements with how the site is run and they would prefer not to follow our rules, it's usually best they go elsewhere.

However, getting back to the "efficency" term, which sounds a bit corporate, there are probably improvments to be made, yes. Sometimes there are conflicting rules - e.g. we previously allowed off-site advertising on certain Showroom forums but not the gallery. This was non-sensical, and therefore we made it consistant.

The Acting Community Team Supervisor, which is currently Iconography, regularly reviews performance and motivates Community Team members.

Regarding working as a team, the Community Team all have each other on Instant Messaging and work as friends.

We try to get on with everyone, although I've not been nearly as active as usual recently.

It should be noted though that at the end of the day -- this is a website. It is not a full time job for anyone.

We could probably slightly improve with 10 or so full-time paid moderators. But where would that money come from?

Well said Jay, though I hope you're prepared for some challenges. Seems inevitable that at least one member is going to challenge something you've just mentioned. The only part of your post that I somewhat disagree with, is where you mention that it's common for hatred to be aimed towards website administrators. I've only ever seen hatred against administration on LCPDFR.

I think these guys are great. They deal with trolls, differing opinions, and just straight ignorant people. They monitor well, and strictly enforce the Community Guidelines. Even better, you almost always see them offering support, and their own opinions. Unlike a lot of other moderators on other websites, these guys don't sit in the shadows, they actually interact with the community, which I think is amazing! Rock on guys!

Jay, I do agree with you, and although freedom of speech isn't "legally enforced" here on the site, of course you have to enforce the Community Guidelines. With that being said, it is taken way out of proportion sometimes, and has happened once (only once) with me. Not going to give too many details out, but that's my opinion. Hope this doesn't violate a CG.

AND NEVAR EVAR EVAR PM ME FOR SUPPORT (KTHNXBYE <3)

I don't think so. There has been times when i have received a PM from a mod for not staying on topic. He asked the person who made it how it would start a discussion and i answered him. I wonder if he would have done the same to the person who made the topic and answered him.

There have been numerous occasions where a topic has been closed because it was a "pointless" thread, this site isn't as relaxed as it was when I first started on this site.

I would gladly name drop, but I'd probably get yet another warning point against me because someone doesn't like my answer.

Never was in trouble with the forum lawbringers till now, and I'm quite new here son can't really judge. Generally I think if I dislike the website administration I would find another one, since no one owes me anything here. However, regarding "pointless threads" and "pointless posts" it may be good to create a special subforum or just relax the enforcement in the Random section. You know, like a paper bag for an alcohol.

  • Management Team

The thing with pointless threads is that some people will say they all should be closed, and others would say they all should be left alone. There is no way to satisfy everyone. There used to be the random section, which I believe was moderated a lot more leniently than the other sections, but people complained about the website "going to shit" because of those types of threads. So Gen. & Misc. Discussion replaced it, where a topic must at least form some sort of discussion. Generally, those "pointless threads" only spawn posts such as "this thread is pointless," and there's really no place for that on this website.

"Work and ideas get stolen, then you keep moving on doing your thing."

I think it really just comes down to supervision and checks. I actually work in compliance so i understand the challenges of being the 'Police' in the room. Before i send something out or correct someone on something i usually confer with my colleagues to ensure im making the right call and im not coming off like a total asshole.

And unless you have like a moderators manual with policies and procedures for every type of situation a moderator may encounter there is no way to eliminate the disparity between different moderators actions.

Every moderator comes from a different background and has a different personality so they may have different tolerance levels for certain things and not for others. Thats just the way it works just like one cop may give you a ticket while another cop may just give you a warning.

Discretion is a double edged sword.

However i dont think the moderators here are out of control or anything i think this community has just really grown and people are creating alot of off topic topics that are controversial in nature and they can get out of hand. Thus moderators are forced to act but i think they have really given us alot of leeway in terms of what topics we can discuss such as this one.
