Hey guys, so i'm sure some of you have heard already that YouTube star sam pepper has been accused of sexual assault and has had rape charges filed against him.

What i really wanted to discuss here is why rape cases are mostly thrown out the window or the victim not getting justice? 

 

Why do people 'blame the victim'?

 

Why do 400,000 rape kits still remain untested? 

 

Why is it considered difficult to prosecute a sexual assault or rape case?

I hate when things like this get on LCPDFR.

It's hard because it's usually a case of "He said, She said". Usually the victim washes evidence off after a rape (out of shame and guilt), and unless there's eye witness testimony or a video recording, providing the burden of proof needed is near impossible.

And was this thread created with the intent to just bash Sam Peppers, or is this about pepper spray? Or about rape?

Sometimes it doesn't even get reported because the victim feels embarrassed.

To answer your question about the 400,000 untested rape kits, they are expensive and most departments especially major cities operate under budget constraints. Therefore a lot of kits don't get tested.

It's hard to prosecute a rape case since the vic should  immediately report this crime so the lab would be able to discover semen and traces of violence. Meanwhile we were taught that only 10% of women go to the police after that. It's really, really hard for someone to come to totally strange people and start explaining those things. It's even harder to remember any details about the suspect. Many of the victims fear that the criminal might return if they talk to the police.

 

Sometimes it's a known person, like a friend or acquaintance, which always makes case easier but still without anything but witnesses and victim statements it's hard to prosecute. Sometimes it's a setup when girl reports the rape and blackmails the guy, demanding money or marriage. 

 

All in all, rape investigations sucks, I think. Would never want to do that

On topic: Since I am a man, I guess I am kind of biased but as has been said above most women do not report the rape, which leads to cases being dropped due to insufficient evidence. I guess it has to do with shame. The only one who should feel shame, is the one committing the act.

That is a really relevant topic to discuss these days, if you don't care about it, you don't have to comment. Discussions are always welcome, if they have actual discussion value which this certainly does.

On topic, one of the things about victim blaming is it is common for rape victims to be blamed mainly because of want they wear, I honestly hate when people say she asked for it, just because a woman dresses a certain way, doesn't mean they asked for it, also there's a lot of debate on wether drunk people are able to give consent, wether if their drunk it is considered rape because a drunk person cannot give consent, I don't think that's entirely true, even if they're drunk or intoxicated they can still give consent, I just think your blood achool level would have to be over a certain level.

Well I brung up sam pepper because no justice has taken against him and plus charges have been filed against him, did you read about the lapd investigation?

Well justice can only be taken if he's guilty. Do you know that he's guilty?

If you're referring to the prank vids, nobody pressed charges from that as wrong as it was. And because he touched girls butts, that means he's raped people? I don't follow that logic at all....

I would be lying if I said I was surprised. I mean, I hate to judge a book by it's cover but look at how he dresses.

First off, those videos are proof, it clearly shows him handcuffing women, kissing them without their consent and grabbing their butt cheeks.

Company's have also dropped him because of these videos, also I didn't say grabbing a persons butt is rape. Sam pepper needs to go to jail, charges have been filed against him it's just it's taking time and we also don't know much about the victims. There's a news story about a woman who did in fact file rape charges against him, she's just now doing it now that he's being exposed.
