Well, here's what i think.

GTA IV

Pros:

  • Has a deep story, that are both fascinating and awesome.
  • Very dark and realistic.
  • The map is based on New York.
  • It's such a good game you could play it for days.
  • Long story that make's you climb up the criminal ladder.
  • Police are not terminators.
  • The city feels so real and alive.
  • The map have a good size, so you can find things easier.

Cons:

  • Bad PC port.
  • Too many sub-plots. (The Diamonds, The Heroin, etc)
  • Some ugly cars.
  • The handling of cars are just terrible.

GTA V

Pros:

  • Very nice and sunny setting.
  • Good heists.
  • Beautiful graphics.
  • Nice police cars.

Cons:

  • Too many super cars.
  • Police are terminators.
  • The wanting system is ridiculous.
  • The fact that the army uses about six tanks on a suspect is bad.
  • Bad story, that are too short.
  • Boring characters.
  • Cars handle like they're were made of plastic.
  • A dead-looking city.
  • Absolutely the most boring map.

So, in the end, GTA IV wins for me. Whats your opinion?

I say GTA IV just cuz I don't have GTA V lol.

Gta V has a large map including the countryside. You also have the ability to buy houses and rob stores. It's fun being wanted though... MOST of the time. In GTA V, you get to swim up down left and right. In Gta IV it's just left or right. But overall... even though GTA V has a lot more "realistic" attributes GTA IV wins. The story just craps out GTA V. I've been keeping up with some youtube videos on the story for GTA V.

Here's a better question. If GTA V  came out for PC, would you get it?

Somethings are better in IV, some better in V. I kinda lean toward IV though.

I also think I'm one of the only people that liked IV's handling more than V. In V it's way too twitchy and doesn't feel realistic, but in IV they handle like fat boats.

I was expecting R* to take what worked in GTA IV and improve upon it, not change everything completely.  While GTA V is a good game I can't play it for that long, I lose interest. It took me a fair while to complete it, so long in fact that R* had updated something which broke my main story, I was unable to continue any missions and had to look online for a fix.  Perhaps I'm just getting old.  I miss Vice City and San Andreas!

It's hard too rate the both of them side-by-side. If we're rating them on story, GTA IV had a very in-depth and detailed plot that was full of tragedy, action, and romance. GTA V had an interesting story, but it didn't captivate me as much as IV's, partly because it didn't give me the attachment I had with IV's characters and their personalities. The game basically fell short of delivering a beautiful mosaic of characters and their backgrounds. Instead it gave me customization of weapons, cars, characters and a huge map to run around and shoot people in.

We can't really rate on graphics because, quite frankly, it wouldn't be fair. IV's graphics were marvelous for 2008 and they did the job well, some argue they still compete with today's games. V came out in 2013, around five years from GTA IV. V's graphics are very intricate and the lighting is well crafted to almost give a life like experience. The year span is too far apart to give an even playing field for both game's graphics, different technology, new methods, ect.

The only thing I feel I can compare is the story line that takes place during game play. V's engine capabilities are past that of IV's because it's about five years ahead. Again, this creates far better graphical settings, map size, and vehicle density.

IV has my vote for getting me drawn into the rise of fall of Niko Bellic and his path to taking revenge on those who did him wrong.

Well, here's what i think.

GTA IV

Somebody needs to broaden their horizons for driving games... You're out of your mind. GTA IV has much more realistic vehicle handling than any other game in it's class (APB, Saint's Row, etc.) and is even better than some driving only games, like Need for Speed.

I have to disagree with the "dead-looking city". I feel GTAV is about 10x more active than IV. In IV, the most active I can get people is them saying their stupid sayings at me. GTAV has way more cars on the road (except in online, THATS the dead city). There are those random events that happen that are fun to get involved with. Maybe that's mainly in Los Santos and not the surrounding areas, but that's what I felt after playing it non stop ever since launch.

As for the boring map, I'd agree mostly, however, the city areas are fun, and when there is a mod (IF it ever comes to PC) that is the equivalent of LCPDFR, the map would be a blast to patrol. There's so much area. I get soooooo bored of the GTAIV map. I've driven everywhere (granted the game has been out for many years now)

Not everyone wants realistic handling in cars. It's perfectly valid to prefer arcade-y handling, which often makes driving a lot less frustrating (yes, real cars don't do well cornering at 80 MPH. That doesn't mean I want to have to slow down when driving in Liberty City).

My opinion towards the topic here is that I think GTA IV did have a better story line and LCPDFR yes is very interesting. I feel like having LCPDFR for GTA IV will be boring because all the peds in the game have a more mature attitude meaning they know how to drive, this takes off action for the future LSPDFR mod for the game. Either way, we don't know if here will be an LSPDFR but I still highly enjoy LCPDFR for GTA IV itself with all kinds of action.

GTA IV as we all can turn into something that is always new with mods, and we can change ever detail in GTA IV, as for GTA V -_- I don't have it so I don't really now.

If GTA V comes out for PC and is as moddable as IV was, I'm going to say it'll be the best GTA ever.

Damn yeah you are right about that, If it is moddable then all the cons about GTA V, like the handing will be pros

That shouldn't make the handling "terrible" by default. I think if a person plays a variety of driving/racing games, you'll get a better understanding of how well GTA IV cars handle compared to other games.

Right now...GTA IV because it's moddable and is full of possibilities, if GTA V comes out for PC and is as moddable as GTA IV then I will love it! There are much more improvements, graphics, mechanics and miscellaneous wise in GTA V. GTA IV's main story was entertaining but after you completed it, the game became boring after a while, and yes I didn't really enjoy V's storyline much either, but after you completed it, you have so much fun things to do, from hunting deer and mountain lions (they pretty much hunt you) to diving in the deep ocean and fighting off a shark to shooting up a prison and then getting killed by the guards, I can go on for hours. I also enjoy some of the Easter eggs. I don't like that the cars easily explode when doing stunts or accidentally getting into a car indecent. The game feels realistic and looks beautiful, but I won't rate it until it comes to the glorious PC.
