Which Operating System?

Featured Replies

Since I started working as a systems administrator, I've gotten more and more interested in various systems and operating systems. So, a simple question: Which operating system(s) do you use? I'll start:

  • Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 for my main gaming rig
  • Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 for my laptop, it also has a partition with Linux Mint 16 Petra
  • Ubuntu Server 12 for my server

I was wondering when the first XP machine would show up haha. We've started a operation at work which involves upgrading all machines from XP to 7. It's really recommended that this happens :)

Invenio, Investigatio, Imperium

Windows 7 Pro on my main laptop and my desktop back home, as well as on my old laptop back home

Ubuntu Server 12.04 LTS on my server back home

Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard on another machine back home

...most of my computers are back home and not really used much; I *do* ssh into the ubuntu box a fair amount, though.

If it were up to me, it would be long gone. But I share this rig with my family, and given the way I was practically hated for installing GRUB along with Linux Mint (now they just have to wait 5 more seconds till XP boots up since it's currently default — what a change!), I guess things will stay that way.

Windows 7 build 7601.

Full systeminfo output in spoiler.

Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and Arch Linux Dual Boot on my PC

Android 4.4 KitKat on my phone

Android 4.4 KitKat and Windows 8.1 x86 Dual Boot on my tablet

CentOS 6 x64 on my primary web server **

Ubuntu Server 12 x64 on my secondary webserver **

(Sorry for the long list. I just have a lot...)

** Planning on getting rid of these two due to the cost.

I use Windows 8.1 64bit. Using a start button is really just like Windows 7 but far more snappier and better with newer technology. Only downside is it does cause issues with GTAIV in my experiences.

I've been spending the last month setting up 25 ASUS tablets for my high school, biggest pieces of shit EVER rofl. The school just bought them without consulting anybody in the tech department...massive waste of taxpayer money.

Win 8.1 on my gaming rig for the fast bootup times mainly. Pair it up with an SSD and you're golden.

BTW, R.I.P. Windows XP, Microsoft officially cut support for the old girl :(

About time. It's a 12 year old Operating System and not suited for modern-day everyday usage.

What? I've only had mine for a month but I'm very happy with it.

It served us well! Remember back in the day when you didn't have internet, so you just pulled up pinball or Microsoft Paint? REMEMBER THOSE DAYS?!

Desktop: Windows 7 Home Premium x64 OEM (Was not dumb enough to buy "better" version)

Server: Debian Wheezy amd64

Router: DD-WRT v24-sp2 micro

Laptop(KIA): Arch Linux x86_64

And various VMs.

You are using the WRONG right theme!
