Got my letter yesterday.

Going to take the written exam and the agility test in March.

I'm excited.

Thanks! I should have no problems with it. I have a good feeling about it.

You won't just try and apply, but you WILL become a LEO soon enough. Keep us updated

Did my testing today. Aced the written, I'm sure. Passed all the physical agility tests.

Next is the background investigation, then the interview. I'll probably apply to a few more departments soon. I hope I get in to Mishawaka, but I won't hold my breath.

Over 90 applicants, only 3 positions open. I hope I stand out in the interview.

Mishawaka is a good department, I wish you best of luck! Hope you find the right department, and hope you are soon a LEO.

Thanks! From what part of Indiana do you hail?

So yeah, I applied. Today was the last day they were accepting applications, and I got mine in just in time.

I wish I would have heard about it sooner. I cut it pretty close!

Good man, I hope you get the job. If not, make as many friends as you can with that department or any other officers for that matter.  Individual town departments are tough to get into. The way my local P.D. explained it to me is this: They look at people from within town first, they look at military background second, and the also hire people who ensure their department reflects the community it serves. As an example, if your community were largely Hispanic, they'll want mostly Hispanic officers. They also look for a balance of male and female officers. Getting a spot can be tough. If this doesn't work out for you, check out the Sheriff's department. In any event, good luck.

Don't feed the tinfoily Candian troll folks, just ignore him.

Anyway OP, are you certified under Indiana LE standards or will the agency train and certify you themselves?

Up here in MI, very very few departments will train candidates, just the State of MI and Detroit PD run their own academies, and due to the economic downturn almost nobody is sponsoring people through academies(unless of course, they know you.)

The onus is on people who want to get into LE to get and pay for the training themselves, which is in almost all cases is through local colleges.

Hey, OP, best of luck in getting the position! Want to ask you about the agility test: have you already taken it or just preparing? How do you think, is it hard?

Sorry, didn't notice that you've passed the test thanks to some flooded pages. Congrats!

Don't just apply at one police department. Not trying to discourage you but the first few interviews your probably not going to do well on as they are just basically for experience.

But i'll give you some tips anyways.

Know all your strengths and weaknesses have a list of both. If you say you son't have any weaknesses once the interview is over they'll throw out your applications (I learned the hardway)

Know more about the city, town, village then they do. Know the populations, know how many officers there are and fire fighters ect.., know crime rate and most common crime, and crime area. Get out and talk to business owners and see if they have any complaints about the department or the crime. Know day time population, and what not.

Be able to sell your self this is almost always the first question. Some departments will say "Tell me about your self"  others will say "Sell your self"

Do you research you only have one chance at this. One chance at each department.

Pff only 90 applications and there accepting 3 people? Trust me about half of those people won't qualify. Just do your research and stay away from text book answers. At the department by me they had 2 open spots and over 900 people applied.

No problem, I just didn't want to be lumped in as a bad guy.

Not necessarily. There will probably be a time period though where one is prohibited from applying again however.
