Don't feed the tinfoily Candian troll folks, just ignore him.

Anyway OP, are you certified under Indiana LE standards or will the agency train and certify you themselves?

Up here in MI, very very few departments will train candidates, just the State of MI and Detroit PD run their own academies, and due to the economic downturn almost nobody is sponsoring people through academies(unless of course, they know you.)

The onus is on people who want to get into LE to get and pay for the training themselves, which is in almost all cases is through local colleges.

If you are hired into an Indiana PD, they pay to send you to the Indiana Police Acadamy. Our economy is very strong here.

Hey, OP, best of luck in getting the position! Want to ask you about the agility test: have you already taken it or just preparing? How do you think, is it hard?

Sorry, didn't notice that you've passed the test thanks to some flooded pages. Congrats!

Agility test? Very easy. I've got five years in the Army Reserve, and quite honestly, the agility test to get into Brink's was MUCH harder than the police one.

Don't just apply at one police department. Not trying to discourage you but the first few interviews your probably not going to do well on as they are just basically for experience.

But i'll give you some tips anyways.

Know all your strengths and weaknesses have a list of both. If you say you son't have any weaknesses once the interview is over they'll throw out your applications (I learned the hardway)

Know more about the city, town, village then they do. Know the populations, know how many officers there are and fire fighters ect.., know crime rate and most common crime, and crime area. Get out and talk to business owners and see if they have any complaints about the department or the crime. Know day time population, and what not.

Be able to sell your self this is almost always the first question. Some departments will say "Tell me about your self"  others will say "Sell your self"

Do you research you only have one chance at this. One chance at each department.

Pff only 90 applications and there accepting 3 people? Trust me about half of those people won't qualify. Just do your research and stay away from text book answers. At the department by me they had 2 open spots and over 900 people applied.

That is outstanding advice, and I will take it. Thank you.

Also, my mom knows a guy who was a cop for a long time, and whose daughter and son in law work for MPD, and he knows the chief. I just found out about that yesterday, but I guess he called the chief on my behalf. I hope that helps a little.

UPDATE!!!

I interviewed today. I think it went well. Went in completely unprepared, and killed it. I think they liked me.

I'm so anxious to get my letter...

In the meantime, here're some pics of some MPD cars for your viewing pleasure:

Best of luck!

Do you know what police vehicle they chose as their "new generation" to replace their current fleet? (E.G. The FPIU, Caprice, Dodge Charger etc)

Not sure. The newest cars they have are Impalas. I've seen some Caprices around South Bend, but Mishawaka is a small department. They would likely go with the Ford or Chevy.

Okay, thanks :)

Btw: When will you get your results? Or have you finished all the required tests?

Got my letter a couple weeks ago...

Not a good sign, right? Right. I was rejected, and quickly applied to two more departments, Elkhart, and South Bend.

I'm sure one of those will hire me. They're much larger, and hire more officers, more often.

Better luck next time, I suppose.
