Need For Speed: Rivals

I found it odd that no one had started this topic, so I thought I would be first! The newest entry into the Need for Speed series is really great! While I understand it's a very large departure that traditional policing, the new edition lets your choose between "Cop" and "Racer" and you stick with it throughout the entirety of the game. That, and it's in immediate sync with other players that are online, so you're always in a world with other players. You have the option of going after said players or pursuing NPCs with NPC or other player assistance.

The game also allows you to unlock various cars in three different forms, depending upon your preference. The "Patrol", "Undercover", and "Enforcer" models all hold their own strengths and preferences. While those who are all about realism when it comes to policing, may not enjoy this game, those who like the idea of a constant fast paced pursuit game will fall in love. It's a great open world idea, that will be entertaining for months to come.

What are your thoughts? Do you love or hate it? And, what is up with those awful rims on the Chargers!

Is the Crown Victoria in it?   If not, I won't be as eager to buy it but I'll still consider it.

Nope, no thanks  In my opinion, Most Wanted was the last, "real" Need for Speed game. Thanks for sharing either way :)

EDIT: My brother just bought it, guess I get to try it out after all.

So far I'm liking it. Just like you said, I like that they have undercover cars. I also like that they have three different versions of police cars in general. Not to mention the detail in the game, for instance the customizable license plates. My favorite part however has to be the destruction. No you can drive through fences instead of hitting them and just bumping back into the roadway. If there is a building in your way, well sometimes you'll have to smash through it. It's intense. The repair shops are also convenient. It's a fairly good game, I'm glad I picked it up.

Seems like all of the good games are coming out at once and my wallet hates me as it is. I'll add this to my wishlist along with many of the other games that have come out recently. I don't usually like continuous-MP games but I think this one is laid out pretty well.

I'm tired by EA recycling the same damn games.

They did something exactly like this in 2010, called Hot Pursuit. Play as a cop or as a racer and hunt eachother down via races. I'll pass on it this time I think

It's a lot different from that title. While there are a similar amount of cars, the single player and the mulitplayer experience from that game, 'merged.' You 'purchase' the upgrades you want and how great they are. Most importantly, the player remains as a 'cop' the entire time while within the game and map, and it's not limited to a single track, but a open world environment. You also have NPC officers throughout the map assisting you and in their own pursuits/patrols.

A brief example is displayed in video, linked below.

NFS: Most Wanted felt too much like Burnout Paradise to me IMHO with the smash billboards and fences and stuff. I'm a fan of racing games on consoles so I'm considering picking this up to add to my NFS collection, I've been part of it since NFS 3: Hot Pursuit. The Porsche one was not bad either.

This was really bad. Not like I expected a lot anyway. My friend got it today and it's been crashing all over the place, locked at 30fps while suffering from the most obscure graphical/visual errors. Having horrible police car liveries (and police radio) while at it too. Apparently the AI didn't get any better neither and traffic loves stopping dead in front of you along with police cars smashing into you instead of helping with pursuits. I'd write more but I'm in a hurry to play IV.

I've owned every Need For Speed game since Need For Speed 2. If you haven't played Hot Pursuit by Critereon, you're missing out. That's the last "real" Need For Speed game.

Hmmm...might get it. You can actually get Rivals, Hot Pursuit, and Burnout Paradise for $59.99 if you buy the PC download: https://www.origin.com/en-us/store/buy/nfs-rivals-2014-/pc-download/base-game/digital-deluxe-edition-ANW.html

I liked Hot Pursuit, I just didn't like that it wasn't free roam. There was a free roam but all it is is driving around doing nothing...

The Crew. That is all.

Off topic but that game kinda reminds me of GTAOnline in the fact that you roam about the whole map.Stoked for that game. I will def stream it!

Um crappy graphics and waiting for enb for rivals

It uses the same engine as BF4, which looks great on PC. I watched Talutha stream it tonight and it looks amazing IMO.

The graphics are really weird even though they're supposed to be all awesome looking. The shadows for a example fail often. So let's say you go past a tree which casts a shadow, you look back and that shadow will be gone. They disappear. Also the game has the tendency of removing stuff like mountains at the corner of your screen.

tYabZG9.jpg

On the top right there should be a mountain but the game removed it so it's just white.

On top of that it's just weird and took things from Most Wanted 2013 I didn't really understand. Most of the time roads and everything would be wet even thought it hasn't rained nor is it actually raining at the time being. Maybe that's just them trying to give the game a "good look" but it's pretty stupid in all honesty.

I just hate the amount of recycled content. Even the racer player model is the same from MW: 2013, the cop model is same, even the guy inside civilian vehicles is the same cop, just without the uniform. At least civvie cars have interiors now but that doesn't really reedeem it to me. They also have some of the most idiotic police lingo I have ever heard in a video game, just like in MW: 2013. "Code 3 suspect is 10-41." I'm glad that suspect is going with his lights and sirens while beginning his tour of duty. At least they dropped the eleven codes from MW: 2013, so praise the Lord for that. Authentic police radio was one of my favorite things about police chases in games such as the original Most Wanted, Carbon and even Undercover.

Also looking at those busted scenes in Most Wanted - Undercover never fails to entertain. Tri-City PD was a pretty badass police department for a Need for Speed game.

I just miss all those previous games, Hot Pursuit: 2010 was definitely the last NFS game I enjoyed for the most part. It was pretty bad already.

I don't think I'll buy it. It hate having all these Lamborghinis or Ferraris as police cars ingame... That's not the real thing. It's not when you're outside that you see multiple Lamborghinis responding to a street race. They should have added CVPIs or Tauruses or just any other common police car but not Marussias or McLarens! Let's hope they're adding it within a DLC but I don't think so.

I was actually just about to post about this too. I don't have the game because I've heard people say that it's really good and others that it's really bad. Not sure if I'll but it yet.

Well, they do carry three options for the 2011- Dodge Charger line. But, otherwise, it's very skewed toward high-end vehicles. Again, it's still a Need for Speed game, and I only buy them when the option of Cop Vs. Racer is in the game. I just appreciate the open world, the drop in multiplayer, and more options when it comes to cars and undercover vehicles.

But, yeah, the radio codes are by in large part the worst issue of the game in my opinion. Apparently, you go "Code 2" when you end a pursuit.

At the end of the day, it's just a overdone Racing Arcade game that I can appreciate for what it is. I never intended for it to be anything more that what I bought, and I know it'll never be anything close to LCPD:FR. But, it's really cool to see ALPRs on the rear of a Dodge Viper or a Whelen Liberty mounted on a Lamborghini Revolution.

I bought it and I've been enjoying it. It isn't meant to be an authentic police game, just a fun cops and robbers type racing game. It is fun to drive down the road, have a pursuit go flying by, join in on it, and take down the suspect. Or maybe more suspects join in and try to help each other, then you try to take them all out. I agree the radio codes are awkward and I also wonder why they say "in pursuit of a code 3 suspect" but I can deal with that.
