Today marks a very sad day in television history. One of the best cop shows around has officially announced it won't be coming back for a sixth season.

Just ignore the fact that shit like "Toddlers and Tiaras" and "16 and pregnant" is currently getting new seasons.

 

After a posting from the official SouthLAnd twitter account, I became concerned. Within minutes I had discovered one of the most saddening things I've read regarding television.

Confirmed via numerous news outlets.

 

“TNT has made the difficult decision not to renew Southland for another season. We are enormously proud of Southland, which stands as one of the best police dramas ever made. Executive producers John Wells, Chris Chulack and Jonathan Lisco, along with creator Ann Biderman and our partners at Warner Bros. Television, have given us five seasons of powerful, unforgettable storytelling, for which we are deeply grateful. We also want to thank the amazing cast for their impassioned, no-holds-barred performances, and the production team for their tenacity shooting on the streets of real-world Los Angeles. We wish everyone associated with Southland the very best.”

Ya, I knew this was coming.... There is only a small portion of people in the world who like TV shows like that. Now my 2 most favorite TV shows have been cancelled. Now you know how I feel when I found out futurama was cancelled a few weeks ago... I think only on average they were getting like a few million people watching it....

 

I liked the show a lot but I think it was showing to much corruption, a lot of people might get the wrong idea.... I know a friend of mine ask "If a cop really did what Dewey did would they really be aloud back on the force like that?"

It just annoys me how absolute crap like "Keeping up with the Kardashians" and "Toddlers and Tiaras" constantly get renenewed even though we know they are absolute rubbish. (A toddler who thinks she's a supermodel and a fat mother who exploits her child? Yeah, great TV)

 

I'll miss SouthLAnd.

Not necessarily. Do you have any reason to believe it was making them more money than another show would? No matter how much you like a show, doesn't mean it gets great ratings or makes them money.

Southland was the only reason I turned on the TV once a week....

Well, nowadays, and I guess always, the viewing figures go before the quality of the show.

I have trouble blaming a network for making programming decisions to maximize profit. It's kind of their job.

I can't really blame them. While Southland was still a good show, it went downhill in the last season:
