Introducing our new Patreon Page

Today we're announcing the launch of our presence on Patreon, which you can find all the details of on our new page: https://www.patreon.com/lcpdfr

I know that we're very late to the party when it comes to things like Patreon, so much so that in almost ten years of operating this site we've never actually had a donations or subscriptions service on offer except for a humble, and very much overlooked, PayPal link.  I suppose it's one of those things that we've thought about from time to time but perhaps we've just never quite wanted to pull the trigger on.

As noble or whatever as this might seem, though, I think it has also had a couple of unintended consequences.  Not only have we often kept our cards a little too close to our chests, I think that as the community has grown and grown we've lost a certain sense of intimacy that was synonymous with the earlier days of our work for GTA IV.

With that being said, our commitment to keeping our work free and available to all is as steadfast as ever.  While we're incredibly grateful to the handful of people who've donated to us over the years for nothing but a little image on their posts in return, we're obviously acutely aware of the much larger chunk of people who likely don't even know that we have a donations link.

I think that by moving into the 21st century with this, we'll be able to provide a much better service for those who wish to support our work, and more importantly provide far greater recognition and rewards to those who do.

I came into this mod 5 years ago, and it definitely felt like the community was more helpful and certainly was more active (at least it certainly felt that way).

I feel like this brings up more questions on how you guys want to approach Patreon.

Do you guys really feel like there is a need that FR needs a patreon? Is there something that regular donations/website ads are aren't doing that you want them to do?

Do you guys have goals/tiers in mind? How much will they be?

Do you guys feel (with such a small dev group) that you can act on those goals? Or will they get pushed aside?

For better or worse, communities always change over time.  In LSPDFR's case, it's a mixed bag.  In some ways the community has changed in a negative way, and you touched upon it.  Back before I became a moderator, and during my tenure, a lot of people were eager to provide support for each other.  Now it seems like there's only a select few - if any - who regularly provide help to others.  On the other side, new developers have shown up and release mods (scripts, vehicles, etc) that improve and help the community in general, which makes our game bad ass and extremely fun.

It should be obvious, but I am not speaking for Sam or the team - I don't think there was a "need" for a patreon.  My assumption is that it was created because

1) As Sam mentioned, the ability to donate and support LSPDFR hasn't been in bright red letters.  I'm sure a lot of people weren't even aware you could support LSPDFR financially.

2) From what I've seen in other situations - which is possibly what happened here - members of the community expressed interest in helping to support LSPDFR financially and possibly recommended a patreon.

yeah most likely a mix of random events, scripted investigations and wanted posters. i still think it'd be cool if gamewells were put into the game. the first fire alarm boxes went up in Boston in the 1880s and the first police box went up in Glasgow in 1891 and apparently Chicago had some around that time as well.

I haven't installed LSPDFR yet and became an Patreon, just because I love the concept.

Many good ideas in here already for Red Dead, let's all hope our good friends at Rockstar don't make it too difficult to mod so we can get going quickly.

My only recommendation with this would be to change the color of either Management or Insiders since they are the same.  Either make Insiders a lighter color like gray, or make Management gray (as an example, though gray is a nice color).  Every time I see a black name I'm like..new admin?

Hi Sam Can you reply because can you have another update so console players like me I have a PS4 and want the mod can you please script and make that happen!

Kind Regards,

Zaki

LSPDFR or other modifications will never come to Consoles. They are not compatible and are only designed for GTA V on PC. Sadly this isn't a decision of "we do not want to make mods for consoles" rather it simply is currently impossible to do so.

The payment processing is unfortunately entirely out of our control and solely handled by Patreon. You would have to check with them.

For some reason after renewing my donation I lost access to the Supporters only forum. I made sure to check that I still have the $5 donation and it's all good. Any idea why it yoinked?
