I doubt it will. If I told you my current PC can run GTAIV maxed out with an ENB with 100 FPS, would you believe me? I have a Radeon HD 4350, an AMD Phenom II 910 and 8gb of memory. Do you even know w

  • Is that even a PC? Regardless, can you post your specs please?

Aw hell naw. That thing will either blow up or implode when you play GTA.

Uhhh...I found my PC was a PCI-E 2.0 x16 and I found two nice cards that I'm 100% sure will work, the GTX 550 ti and Radeon HD 6770. I'm wondering which one is better. I thought you would know and recommend one to me.

I also found out the 560 ti is a PCI-E x16, so I turned to you to ask if you would know if it would work in my PC. Thanks. (I don't want the GTX 680 because it is WAY over my budget.)

Use HWCompare.com to compare graphics cards. Also that computer of yours sounds a lot like a vanilla Dell Studio desktop that Best Buy sells on their website. In which case, you'll also likely have to upgrade the power supply along with your graphics card, due to insufficient wattage to run a "significant" dedicated graphics card. Retail machines generally come with a power supply only large enough to run what comes in the PC. The cards you're looking at need about 450W minimum. Most store bought PCs have between 135W-300W PSUs.

I currently have a Radeon 6450. I don't know what I have, but I was told to get a new GPU. Here:

I still have no idea how much my PSU is. I read on Google it had 460W for the stock XPS 8300.

Open up the side door of your case and read what the total max wattage is on the sticker of the power supply. The 6450 isn't really a retail card. It's a half-assed GPU companies like Dell and HP put into computers so it "technically" has dedicated graphics. They just want it to be a feature on the product fact tag.

Greetings,

By a complete stroke of luck I randomly discovered the LCPDFR mod via Youtube about a week ago. Having now watched about 10 hours of patrol videos it appears to be the game I've been waiting 20 years for.

I haven't owned a desktop in years (wife and I both use basic laptops) but I've got the itch to assemble something to get my hands on this game.

Looking at assembling a budget gaming system. I've been through the reddit buildapc board, and spent some time on pcpartpicker. Seems like LCPDFR demands more than what would normally be required for smooth gameplay, so my question is ...

1. If I'm going to blow $400-500 (on strictly the case and everything in it, no externals) and build myself something, will I be able to get a smooth (35-40 fps) gameplay experience?

2. If so, am I going all out on GPU or CPU? I had planned on 6-8GB RAM, maybe an Intel i5 processor. The area where I'm least knowledgable is GPUs. If I'll need a $400 GPU I'll probably scrap the idea all together.

3. I've got an XP license, noticeable difference in gameplay when running on XP vs Win7?

Appreciate the help gentlemen.

Welcome mtonne. If I were you I'd change your system priorities a bit. The i5 CPU sounds about right, but I'd sacrifice RAM for a better graphics card if that's what you need to do to fit a budget. You don't need to spend $400 on a GPU, no, but anything under $150 (generally) is a waste of money as it won't perform well in games, so try to invest wisely. AMD cards usually cost less and give you comparable performance to a GeForce from nVidia, so you may consider something from AMD's Radeon series. Other than that, don't use XP. You'd be wasting the 6-8GB of RAM you planned on, since 32-bit operating systems can only read approximately 3.2GB. I'd generally recommend 6+ for a gamer, but if you have to sacrifice something, make it the RAM. Bump yourself to 4-6GB and use the money saved on a better graphics card.

Appreciate your feedback. Possible to pass along GPU specs I should look for?

Seems a quad-core processor is a must, whether AMD or Intel.

A dual core would work, but a quad will future proof you, and there are already octo-cores in the wild from both Intel and AMD. For a video card? The minimum I'd invest money into would be either the AMD 6750/6770 or the nVidia GeForce 550. Bare minimum if you want the game to look halfway decent. Anything below those would be a waste of money. The nVidia 600 series is already in full bloom, and the 7000 series from AMD is out as well.

Just a question, is the Radeon 6670 able to handle GTAIV on highest settings, and do you think it will handle GTAV?

For my birthday, I'm willing to sacrifice my airsoft loadout for new PC parts. So far I need a video card and PSU...

I didn;t read through all the pages of the comments, and it's been a while, but I run an ATI Radeon 6700 HD graphics card, so if they are kinda close, then yeah I'm guessing that it'll run it.

I run an AMD Phenom 9600 quad-core @ 2.30 GHz with 4 gigs of ram and an ATI Radeon 6700 HD graphics card. It (GTA IV) still runs at a grueling 7-10 FPS with pretty much every non-sytem oriented process closed and GTA's graphics and the lowest they can go. From my understanding, this isn't a bottom shelf setup, but also not a top shelf one either, so is this good enough? Or can I do better?

6600 series is not close to the 6700 series. Nothing under a 6750 is worth wasting money on. And your setup is pretty close to bottom shelf, actually. The Phenom architecture is three generations behind what AMD offers now and at a very low clock speed by today's standards (2.3ghz would have been relatively good in the year 2006). I don't want to put across that everybody has to blow $1000+ to get a game to run GTA IV at good settings, but this isn't Farmville. You need some above average computing muscle.

@unr3al Thank you for directing me here. I will look more closely before creating another thread.

Basically my main question is if I buy the Black Pearl from cyberpower without any customization which includes a quad core i7 processor an AMD RadeonHD 6950 2GB 16X PCIe Video Card and 8 GB RAM can I play GTA on max settings.

EDIT: More info on the processor. i7-3820 Quad-Core 3.60 GHz 10MB Intel Smart Cache LGA2011

So due to some circumstances I am not going to put as much money into my build as I would like. So I am downgrading my processor to an i5 3750k. Will it be able to handle the game?

EDIT: A quick response would be greatly appreciated as I am planning on buying tomorrow.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Your MoBo won't support a intel processor..... You need to change the MoBo as well.
