  • Sam, you and the whole team are just amazing. There's no need to apologize considering how hard you all are working to fix this issue.   Great work.

  • @Sam can I haz API at least Plz? :D

Great to know what the issues are, even if someone like me can hardly understand them, XD

But yeah, keep up the good work and take whatever time you need to make this as awesome as it sounds. literally love you guys :D

Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please. - Mark Twain

First up, we're all sorry for the problems we encountered with the release last night.  Unfortunately, there was a game breaking performance issue which was found only a few hours before we intended to release and this has required some time to investigate.

The good news is that we've done our best to mitigate this problem, related to the way in which Rockstar has started to introduce anti-modding protections.  For those of you interested in the technical detail, here's a snippet of a performance test ran by Alexander Blade and LMS:

Performance difference between GTA V version 372 and 393

Calling SET_CURRENT_PED_WEAPON 1000 times via ScriptHookV and RAGEPluginHook:
372: ~582ms (RPH: ~585ms)
393: ~2480ms (RPH: ~2490ms)

Performance on version 323/350 is most likely even better due to even less/no obfuscation than 372.

In short, on the previous patch (372), it took 585 milliseconds for the function to be executed 1000 times.  On the newest patch (393), it took 2490 milliseconds, which is roughly 2.5 seconds, to be executed 1000 times.  This means that this particular function takes five times longer to execute on the latest patch than it did previously.  LSPDFR 0.2 and 0.1 call this function a lot, mainly to stop other police officers from killing suspects, as we force them to be unarmed when appropriate by using it.  As such, during a pursuit with even a couple of units, performance takes a hit.

With the problem identified, we've managed to come up with an alternative way of doing things that doesn't have such a dreadful impact on performance.  This version is currently undergoing testing, and we hope to be in a position to release 0.2 as soon as possible.  Note that I won't commit to a date, as it is possible we run into further issues, and we'd like to avoid a situation similar to last night's, but there is still the possibility that we can release today, and we'll keep you updated as to our progress.

Sam.

Hello Sam, I am a new member that I recorded just one hour / two hours ago, you're awesome both you and I love you * - * and as you understand I'm a girl who likes your site in short, that I'm waiting LSPDFR 0.2 play it on the PC of my boyfriend =)

Hey everyone,

I'm a long time lurker to the site and a big fan of the mod, I also happen to be in the career of being a Game Dev. I don't work for Rockstar so please don't bring the hate train down on me. I was just hoping to address a couple of potential reasons for why you're seeing Rockstar behaving the way it is. The most important thing to recognize is that not everyone in a game studio knows what everyone else is doing. If I were working on GTA V during its development and lets say I was working on designing a system for a sweet dance off someplace, I wouldn't be privy to the information that the marketing or legal department has. Along these lines, it is important to recognize that the Devs don't necessarily have the final word. For instance, I might go to my Team leader and show him this cool dance system and we go ahead and implement it, but come review time, someone from legal says "Hey that dance move is trademarked toss it" 9/10 times my higher ups will side with legal.

Applying this information to GTA I agree with the masses that its super disconcerting when Rockstar makes the announcement "Hey we're cool with modding" and then goes out of their way to make it difficult for modders. If I were to guess what was happening internally, I'd say that someone from Public Relations took initiative and made a post for pro-modding, when in reality, marketing is telling corporate "Hey you guys will make more money in the long run if you keep the focus on online". This relates to mods in the sense that, single-player mods take away from the glamour of the GTA:O portion of the game, Think of GTA V as just the side game to the online portion of GTA because that's where Rockstars lining their pockets. So when marketing tells you, there's more money to be had by doing X instead of Y company will generally follow up with X. The unfortunate reality is that no matter how popular a company gets, they wont be able to keep making games without cash.

Hopefully this clarified some of the reasons why you've been seeing this from Rockstar. Any questions feel free to ask and if I see it Ill try to respond.

Dude why u comment I wasn't even talking to u man.anyway they read first then ask the right questions

Dude, why are you so weirdly aggressive towards other members? They didn't even write

I'm sure I've missed a post about this somewhere, but is the car radio (not the police scanner) purposely blocked once we're playing LSPDFR or is that a bug of some kind? Just wondering is all!

Keep up the great work Dev team, and take however much time you need

Absurd and reflects the same findings Sam posted. On another note I have a lot of problems with your forums. Just trying to view threads it times out 99% of the time and comes back with some cryptic error. Just thought you might like to know.

So R* attacks the thing that keeps their games alive and results in better sales. Seems like an amazing sale tactic to me, let's face it if it wasn't for mods I'd stick with my GTA copy on the 360 and so would a bunch of other people who own consoles as well as PCs. There are still tons of mods for GTA IV despite it being 7 years old and R* should realise that without the dedicated community of modders GTA would not live long.

Yeah I personally don't find much entertainment in shooting random peds in game. it was fun maybe the first time

I don't disagree with you, however one of the first classes I took in college for being a Dev was the history of games development. Game development in the 90s was very different than it is now, and those people who were developing then are the people who are in charge of making the kinds of decisions now that are a reflection of the overall game. Back in those days, modding was what drove a game to keep on keeping on, the disconnect comes in from the style of game you see now which is more multiplayer focused. This is why the DLC packs you see major Studios releasing tend to be more multiplayer focused because the paradigm has shifted in their eyes from being Mod/Singleplayer focused to multiplayer focused.

If you look at the market trends over the past couple years, its easy to see why people could make this assumption (Call of Duty, Battlefield, etc etc). The frustrating part is that people tend to ignore the outlying A++ 100% awesome games such as the Witcher, or Skyrim because they cant think of a way to support continuous profit for these games in a way that's been done before. Market people aren't supposed to be coming up with these ideas though, that's a Designers job, and its why I strongly advocate for more mixture of employees between studio departments.

I don't think it has nothing to do with mods because when I play this game with the original files (no mods) ,the game will lag when I fire a minigun at the police or when there is a shootout between me and the cops ( It drops down to 25fps lol the fuck Rockstar?). There is a lot of shuttering too so I think this peformance is pretty much universal as this affect non modders too

This happens to online too

Except with LSPDFR, at the moment, it goes to 6 fps.
