The site has become very uncomfortable.

Featured Replies

Previously, it was much more convenient. It was possible to find a file on the tag such as "LCPD" and sort it by popularity, by the greatest number of comments. Now, it is very difficult (I have not figured out how).
I look for the right models and files by name and could not find any! Sorting files looks awful. There is only on the date and-relevant. Home download (http://www.lcpdfr.com/files/) looks very uncomfortable .. shown very few new files and favorites. I hope you will see my review. I think the last version of the website much more convenient. I know I have to get used to and so on, but still, it's problematic for me. This is just a review is not an insult, not a humiliation of our website.

I agree, its impossible for me to even find my own models via search and each time I'm left with my only option being to go to my profile and look up my content from there. The downloads database is and has always been an unorganized mess, this happening was inevitable. Unfortunately for me, what I say normally falls upon deaf ears.

Best advice I can give is to do what I've been doing for the past few years, find out who the author of that specific mod is that you're looking for and look it up on their profile.

I agree with this.  It's the main reason why I'm holding off releasing anything until this site works the kinks out.  Well, also, the elephant in the room is that, with V out, IV is quickly becoming irrelevant.

I'd say this is a great opportunity to voice your concerns and wishes for design changes. What do you feel needs to be changed? Keep in mind, we can't fix everything as we are restricted by the forum software a bit too, but nothing wrong with making suggestions and requests.

Personally I think the communication aspect of the site has gone slightly. Before the update to IPS 4 I communicated more with friends, I sent more messages, I interacted on forums more and, most importantly, I could see their status updates. Without the notifications for things such as people statuses I don't know what friends are up too or how they are doing.
I'm not trying to say the update is awful, because it does have a lot of good aspects, however I think some things do need to be changed. For example the notification feed or the file sorting.

The transition to this website also messed up some downloads. My french translation I uploaded a few days before the change suddenly got mixed with the spanish translation files (catalan, exactly), and I had to reupload the file. I hope it's a very rare bug, because otherwise it'll become a huge problem with the ammount of mods on this website.

Latest posts should be easier to access. Sorry if I'm wrong but I've only used the site about 5 times since it came out and finding latest posts wasn't as easy as before and the new interface doesn't hint well either.

Also fed up of getting notifications of people I follow making posts since the friends system was merged.

Maybe remove that "Start new topic" button from the upper right corner and replace it with the "go to the first unread post in this topic", as it was before.

Because now, if I need to see new posts, I have to click on the subforum and then on that dot on the left side. Not really comfortable.  (unless I'm missing something?)

I think what would help is people providing tangible ideas to improve the site, other than simply saying 'the last version was better' -- there's very little we can do with such feedback.

Response to some feedback so far:

  • "I can't see latest posts!" - More > Activity Stream
  • "I can't find my own content!" - Go to your profile and click 'See my activity.'
  • "Downloads were messed up!" - Unfortunately a small amount of files that had unicode text were broken. Most of these were manually fixed. Additionally a lot of descriptions might have been messed up due to circumstances outside of our control.
  • "I get too many notifications!" - Well, yes, naturally. Whilst the friend system served no purpose on the old version of the software, the friend system is now a follow system. If you friended people that you no longer want to hear from, or had friend requests set to not be approved, then you can follow a guide we've had since the upgrade.
  • "I don't get any notifications from people I want to get notifications from!" - Then follow them.

We are still working on the downloads area of course. I am the only developer currently working on the feature side of the site. Other members of the development team are busy cooking up LSPDFR.

My main gripe is the lack of a dedicated BBCode editor (if only so I can properly use the acronym tag again) but that's... probably not going to happen. Hell, I'd settle with markdown at this point, both allow me to have finer control in what gets linked, bolded, &c

Also the fact that I can't edit the details of my file to fix the line breaks in the credits which got nuked by the upgrade, but that's another thread in the support forum for another time.

You can use BBCode (at least, most of the default IP.B BBCode) when writing a post and it'll be automatically converted; it's just that it internally stores the post as HTML, and if you try to edit it the only possible code option is HTML, which is only present if you have the permissions to write direct HTML in a post.

It always gets me when I'm editing a post, which before the switch I did more often than I care to admit. Now I can't even edit my signature without trashing it and starting over - and the only reason for this is if I try to copy-paste a link in a url= tag, the url= doesn't parse and I'm stuck with something along the lines of [url=[url=http://example.com]http://example.com]something or other I'd like linked. I'm fairly certain this post is also going to do it (recursively!), as without a preview function I've no clue if the BBCode will parse one way or the other.

Edit: Called it.

so is it just going to nuke the closing URL tags again or...?
